Hi there...anyone here knows where i can get my car weighed and how much it would cost? I wanna know how much weight my car has lost as it's been lightened quite a bit.

And would anyone care to share how much a stock standard GTR 32 would weigh? I have done some research and it seems that it is around 1450-1480kg is that right?

Cheers! :P

I take my cars to the dump to get weighed. The dump adjacent to the Mt Cotton driver training centre has a weigh bridge and it didn't cost me a cent. My old R32 4 door passage weighed in at 1480kg, my old R32 weighed in at 1350kg and my 4 door 1990 Aust delivered base model R31 weighed in at 1350kg also. These weights are with less than 1/2 tank of fuel and exclude my weight.

I would expect a standard R32 GTR to weigh in at about 1450 - 1500kg which is consistent with info I have read over the years. Keen to see what your car weighs so let us know how it goes.

Cheers

Thanx fer the info mate...but wot do u exactly mean by a dump? And any directions fer me to get there? Or like wots the road name/address of the mt.cotton driving center?

Well i'm expecting to weight in at less than 1400kg, but by how much im not too sure, if i had 17" volk racing TE37 rims instead of my 18" work meister S1, that would make more difference too~

he means the local council dump hehe. where u go to throw away stuff. dunno how u can get it for free tho?? maybe just go up get it weighed then say "huh? what am i doing here?"

I have the R32 GTR OEM Manual and it says: Kerb Weight: 1530kg

I was thinking of buying a set of corner scales for use at track day and having a small fee for use to help pay for them. Anyone think this is a good idea ?

Paul

I just took mine to Sims metal at Northgate (Crockford street) and poped it on their weigh bridge (needed to know weight for hill climb).

Anyways they were very cool with it all. They just cracked joke about me donating it to scrap and thats where it should go and Holdens are better and so forth...

Them metal workers... Every second work is F this and F that... LOL :domokun:

  • 4 months later...

Well i have finally got the weighing of my GTR32 done at SIMS metal on their weighbridge, car weighed in at 1410kg. This is fully loaded with all liquids and a FULL tank of petrol, excluding my weight.

This is without rear seats and panels, no rear speakers, no boot panels, no air-con, no carpeting, no spare tyre, has a rear half cage, 2 x bride zeta2 full bucket seats, 18x9 work meister s1, titanium front pipes and other miscellenous lightweight parts. Think a cat-back titanium instead of stainless steel, cf bonnet and doors, and even lighter 17" wheels will set it easily to around 1350kg or thereabouts, fully loaded with liquids and a full tank of petrol.

mine was around 1450 with audio equipments and air cond

so our cars are around similar weight but I am a bit heavier than you

I think you have to carrry lead weight next time we track Jyo :(

J/K is your g-box fixed yet?

9krpm: Heya Dan~hahaha but u have more power and definitely much bigger brakes on yer gtr... :O well i have not gotten the gearbox done yet, waiting on my 20% repco voucher to purchase the list of castrol oils for the gearbox, lsd and transfer case, cuz totalling up they cost over 300 bucks so 20% would mean savings of over 60bucks...lol...but recently my 32 box has been acting "strangely"...but in a good way, that is it's working normally...haha...well maybe it can sense its gonna be replaced soon... :D

How's yer car going? Got yer clutch done yet? Any luck with semislick prices?

lol how do you make a pure track car better, just add carbon fibre. Lamborgini's have nothing on you j-boy :) I have a titanium cat back exhaust on mine. Personally i think it makes a big difference to the note. Differs from every other skyline with a 3" exhuast

heheehhe but you got more useable midrange and chunky 18" semi....I think I am going to smell your smoke next sprint day...better bring some nice perfume along for my car :P

lol about your box, I think the partially damaged synchros are playing trick on ya. I think it feels ok lately because you've been engaging gears on the parts where the synchros are still healthy.....just by rotational chance.

yes my clutch is fixed now. Gavin Wood is very good and extremely helpful. He even found a faulty/damaged crank angle sensor on my car. Naturally this was replaced too :( More reason to find a second job to support my gtr hobby :(:)

I am trying to order some re55s from adelaide but nothing is promising at this stage.

that's the reason I took my titanium exhaust off and put a 3.5" stainless on. The note is different but it is just too loud on the street :)

Lol well i am considering downsizing to 255/40/17 or 265/40/17(if there are any, only found 275/40/17) to get a small rolling diameter to get even more acceleration but yet stay with as thick a contact patch i can have...i don't think u will be far off dan....think ive got to keep a fair distance if im behind u, i wouldnt be able to pull up in time with yer APs! well but its just all in the good name of fun out on the track~ :)

Yeah i know its probably just rotational chance that the synchro in 4th is going in now n then...well gotta wait till i get hold of that repco 20% voucher before i get all the oils n drop the other gearbox in...too bad gavin is far away from me...cant be travelling up n down to the coast all the time to see him...

As fer the semis i might have some good news..just gotta hold on a bit more n wait to hear back next week...if u do get hold of good prices, do let me know too~u know the sizes im after yeah?

Well speedfreak..i do like titanium exhausts as well..its true that the note is distinct, and they are much lighter....well ive got the front titanium pipes, uve got the catback, we should put them together.. :D Well i think that the noise is still bearable, not that bad yet...maybe cuz im used to it... :P But yeah gotta love them when they turn all purplish when they get hot....

you know thats a pretty crazy statement, when you think about how fast your engine is spinning per second let alone per minute and how long it takes to select a gear. I think your just learning to use your gearbox without synchros, soon you wont even need your clutch :P

that's true too, if you speed match the gears or gentle on the shift then you don't work the synchro as much. However the gear will only engages easily if that section of the synchro is not bent or damaged. If the synchro is bent or damaged, then you will still get a harsh sensation up the gear stick :)

Yeah does make sense...well i dont get much sensation and even when it does grind cuz its just a very minor grind, it still goes in pretty easy and doesn't come back out...even in 4th it still revs up normally, oh well but me matching the spinning of the gears and the synchros..lol i dont think so manz, how i wish i had a ppg dog box... :) well all in all just wanna get the other gearbox into the car soon as i can....

do you know what increments the weighbridge went up in? some go up in 10kg jumps, other 20, 30, 50, etc. so depending on what the jump was can determin whether it may have been more.

for example, if it goes up in 50kg increments and your car weighs 1490kg, it will say the car weighs 1450kg.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
