I have just purchased as set of front R33 GTR Brembo's for my R33 Gts-t and intended to purchase a set of DBA5000's.

Now the std size DBA5000's are 324mm in diametre and 30mm thick, but then i started thinking................

1/ If i was to get brackets professionally made, to "lift" the caliper, what is the biggest sized rotor i could fit? I was hoping to fit 343mm rotors, but am unsure if the caliper is compatable with the differance in "curvature".

ie: Some calipers, such as AP Racing, are designed to be compatible with a certain range of rotor sizes (eg: 290mm to 343mm). Are the R33 Brembo's compatable with 343mm rotors or bigger?

2/ Am i able to fit 32mm thick rotors or are the Brembo's limited to 30mm?

Your help would be GREATLY appreciated :)

343s are about as big as I've seen adapters.

will have a flick through my HyperREV mags soon and let you know...

as an aside I'm doing exactly that with the factory rear brembos - going from 300mm to 322mm rotors with a bracket :)

Talk to Howard at Racebrakes Al.

So you of course plan to get the rears and master cylinder don't you?

The few cars I have driven with this mod (just the fronts) felt crap in the brake pedal. Very spongy and pinchy in the rear, even with ABS on one, using braided lines.

Spoke to Howard, very arrogant, felt like slapping the attitude off from his face. He should learn that not everyone knows everything about brake sizes, etc. So instead of pratonising a potenial customer, he should help and explain, that way he may get some business.

Nope; Have been told by numerous other people that the rears are fine. Was considering moving my std four pots to the rear, but then was advised otherwise.

Any opinions on this?

I would really like a brake upgrade and for along time thought i could just use any nissan brembo as long as i used the disc from the same car. For some time though there has been so much talk and probably many myths created about upgrading brakes on skylines.

At the momment i think the G4 8pot kit that just jap are selling looks like a pretty good idea for my r32 gtst.

Ultimately i want a larger disc, so i will use the standard 4 pot calipers but would prefer to upgrade them to anything bigger unless it requires alot more work.

Im waiting patiently for someone to find a front brake upgrade that is suitable for use with the standard rears and actually bolts on etc.

Any feedback appreciated.

Al, I'd stay away from moving the front 4 pots to the rears because of the massive % difference between the piston surface areas.

Plus even if you get the right master cylinder, you will probaby have to run a bias valve to limit rear pressure and keep the back from locking up. If you want a rear upgrade, I would suggest getting the R33GTR rear brembo and using the 300mm factory rotor, or getting the brackets to do the 322 rotor :)

OR find a small porsche rear caliper that has two small pistons with the similar overall piston area to the factory 2 potters

If you want a cheap and effective upgade...then i believe you cant go past a larger rotor with the std caliper. Dont have to worry about master cylinder sizes, etc etc. Its a bolt on upgrade, and the only reason you may have trouble is if you run crappy rear pads. Run good qulaity front AND rear pad then you will have very consistant brakes with great feel.

I happily let ppl drive my car, adn those that have, or completed the upgeade themselves have all been very happy. The rotors are a few bob more then the std rotors, so the only real cost is for the brackets, which you will more then be able to save in the long run with less wear. I did about 60,000kms with plenty of track work thrown in before i needed to machine the rotors, i would have thought that was unheard of?!?!?!

ok. the 324mm 33/34/gtr discs/calipers will do a really good job.

you would get away with using the caliper on a biger disc. but there only a baby caliper.

my advise is to stick with the standard 324mm discs.

save up for some good ol big reds and the 355mm disc combo :P

the rears will need attention. ive cracked 3 rear ones just from old raod outings :(

they dont like getting bright orange very much.

i upgraded the rears to 34gtr/33gtr brembo 2 pot ones and discs.

they work really well. still get a nice dull red glow but.

the fronts are f40 brembo's343mm 2 piece floating discs.

they get orange.

i used to have the 33gtr fronts. they really good. you just need good brake linings.

What is the weight difference between an R32 GTR and an R33 GTS25T? About 150kgs odd?

R33 GTR brakes on an R32 GTST are plenty. On an R33 GTST i dount you would have much problem...that said a change in rotor radius of about 8-9mm shouldnt be that big a deal...but i would only bother if ou could do it all cheaply, otherwise i know of some 2nd hand DBA 5000 hats for sale with old rotos...could run them or get new rotors for the hats...and it will all be bolt up 324mm:)

Check out www.nismo.com.au

I would have done had I known about it when I got my DBA4000s

You really need to work on increasing your corner speed, you are obviously slowing down too much. :woot::P

:P cheers

I have R32 GTR caliper over a 330x32 disc on my Commodore and had to shave a few mm off the inside of the radius to fit the larger disc, apparently you also have to do this to the R33 GTSt caliper too.

might be something to look at with the Brembos.

The gap for the disc in a R32 GTR caliper is 36mm so potentially could use one 34mm wide. Use some verniers and measure the Brembo, you would need a minimum 34mm width to fit a 32mm wide disc.

    • Hi all,  I am in the market for an R200 longnose diff out of a Z31 300ZX, or S12 RSX, DR30 skyline, or similar, in a 3.9 ratio.  Preferably a late model one with the M12 crownwheel bolts.  The only easy to find advert for one of these was my ad back in 2007 when I sold it on this forum.  I sold the diff as I had sold the car it goes to, but as it turns out, after 18 years I got the car back late last year, so now I'm looking for the diff !  If anyone knows where to find a longnose R200 LSD with the M12 crownwheel bolts, drop me a line at [email protected] - Bonus paid if soomeone comes up with the original diff (stranger things have happened !).  Cheers   Ben D
    • Hi everyone, I used to post here a bit from 2004-2013, when I owned various Nissans, in particular my S12 RSX gazelle, which was sold in 2007.  As luck would have it, after an 18 year hiatus, the car found its way back to me last year, and over the past 11 months I have had the pleasure of restoring it with my kids.  One thing that I am after in particular is a 3.9 ratio R200 LSD for it.  I actually sold the one out of the car here back in 2007 , and it would be incredible if I could track down who I sold it to, so I can see how they have progressed over the years (and to be honest, to see whether I can get the diff back !).  Anyways, hi all and let me know "where are the R200 Longnose diffs all at these days ?  Cheers Ben D
    • Arms will be the same as the G35 or 350Z, but as above, there was a change in the lower control arm where it connects to the ball joint.  That said, you can remove the ball joint cone from your old ball joints and fit them to the new ball joints.  To be honest, I didn't think the ball joints themselves were different. The main ball joint is a bit awkward to replace, you really need to remove the steering knuckle to press out the old one.  Some people have used tools to remove it in place, but it just seemed too hard to get to. If you are going to press out/in that ball joint, then you may as well just replace the bushings in the LCA and the compression rod.  You can buy the compression rod bushing from Nissan, but the LCA bushes, you will need to go aftermarket. Much cheaper than buying the whole arm.
    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
