Before anyone goes further, please provide a bit more info:

- Where you are

- What brand turbo timer you have

- How much you are looking to spend

- Are you looking just for an alarm, or immobiliser too? If you have insurance, what are the minimum requirements?

I daresay a lot of packages will meet your requirement. Just remember an alarm / immobiliser is only as good as the person who installed it.

hey, i got a 96series 1, and i have a hks turbo timer which isnt installed also i have the wiring harncing thingy, and looking to spen about $500 fitted wit my turbo timer, can some 1 tell me wat sort of an alarm i should look for and wat options does it have?

im located in perth. cheerz

Hey, has anyone here heard of Extreme Tracking (ET)?

Basically, its a GPS tracking system and you can use your mobile to lock/unlock your car, get alerts, etc. you pay about $700 to install it and about $200 a year to get access to the site where you can track your car. Looks pretty nifty, you can zoom in on your car in real time (updated every 30secs) so you can actually see the surrounding buildings n stuff. Also allows you to slow the car down and stop the engine (but i think you can only do this once you have contacted the police) then you could lock the dipshit in the car. Its got loads of other features I can't remember but I was wondering if anyone here has ET, and what their thoughts are on it.

Thanx

find an autowatch dealer. (if you cannot find one let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.) look at the 456RLI. that will keep the insurance company happy andcan be fitted for around that price.

sounds like one here in qld. uses a map on the net to do the mapping. watch the legal side of things with that one though. if memory serves correct only the police can shut the car down in a controlled situation.

the UTRAK one I'm referring to does a few more things (geofencing for one.) but works on the same idea.

if you take the mapping out of it then autowatch CATE unit will do the same thing.

Wessa you talking to me?

I'd have to agree Chris, I looked a basic mongoose and it was up around that then the add ons come in to play, glass breakage etc etc.

Like I said dont quote me on it but it was to far off that mark. When I checked with the mongoose reps on da coast they would only give me the alarm for that price no fitting hence why i jumped at the chance

I've quoted the wrong person - sorry...

In Perth - my R33 is getting a Autowatch 456RLI put in it at Autoworx... while I'm waiting for the compliance plates so it can be licenced.

I don't know what the RRP price is, but I'm paying next to nothing for it because they have a special on - "free immobiliser with every car sold in October". I think he said $475 installed, but he's taking the cost of the free immobiliser off it.

Anyway, I only wanted an immobiliser, but Paul seemed to think that this was the best alarm for a skyline and that linking existing TT to an alarm/immobiliser was asking for trouble when you could just have one built in. He seems to think it's the duck's nuts of alarms and says that he has the same one on his 300Kw monster and his wife's too.

That's my 5c worth.

sorry to hijack this thread?

researching some keywords being thrown around.

We have UTRAK (http://www.utrak.com.au/) - QLD?

and

Extreme Tracking (http://www.et-tracking.com.au/) - Perth?

Both offer gps/sms function on your current alarm.

Then there are the Rhino GSM unit and mongoose gsm unit.

What is the cheapest gps/gsm sender on the market? If this will be bundled with a good alarm, for example; mongoose M80, i doubt the quality of the gps/gsm unit will be a major factor in prevention as its only a method of sending a warning.

Ive seen similar gsm/gps units going for $1000 and was wondering if the above two are cheaper? or there is an alternative brand.

Thanks

There is lots of ways for alarms, My favrote is mongoose, but you could always get a gsm immobliser and or finger print id immoblsier, no reason why you can't use these systems together.

with the Gsm immobliser you can stop the car via sending an sms to the car. The finger print can store up to 30 prints and maybe abit $$ at the moment around the $440 mark of the top of my head.

But it can still be towed away, in the case of organised crime not joy riders.........so the best way I belive is

A: Mongoose M80 (3point) or M60 (2point) and Insurance

the utrak system is being revised again ( I know the fellow designing it VERY well.) when its done you can track the vehicle in real time via GPRS.

two things to consider here - you asked for cheap and good in the same phrase.

if that is the case then its not going to happen,

for GSM paging - GiSMo + mongoose M80G

if the car is sneezed on you will know. I can get the GSM unit custom programmed to tell you EXACTLY what has been tripped on you car of if it is being towed.

total bill $1350.

have done 3 like this now and it makes for some piece of mind.

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
