All,

I had my GTR re-tuned with 100 ron fuel and cam sprockets today. The results are not mind blowing but as you would expect I did get an increase in Power. Basically I recieved a 10-25 Kw increase across the board, with a little less boost and a little more fuel. The car does feel stonger and boosts up quicker, If you look into my original go-Fast central post you will see the mods. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...go+fast+central

My old figures were

225KW @11PSI

245KW @13PSI

265KW @17PSI

283KW @19PSI 6800N

My new numbers are

235KW @11PSI

255KW @13PSI

275KW @17PSI

293KW @19PSI 7200N

The first pic is pre and post tune at 11PSI. the mid range has in some places increased by 20KW which is nice, at 80Km old power was 63kw, now 85kw, which makes the car feel a lot quicker at low RPM's

Then next 3 pics are the overlay of my 4 hot runs back to back at 4 different boost settings.

The car was not strapped down either.

Hrmm I sorta woulda expected those kw increases just by filling up with 100ron over 98ron let alone camgear adjustments and a retune....

a retune of the cam sprockets and the computer was a wise thing to do.

if you just put in 100RON it wouldnt be able to run at its best OR it could've ran like shithouse.

you gotta change the tuning of the ecu and the cam sprockets to adapt to the new fuel so it can perform at its best.

Nice result.

Is that where the car is gona stay or are there future plans?

No thats enough, after driving the car yesterday, I dont know where I could use any additional power except on the track. I need to keep my car running, its a work car and I do about 30-40k Km per year and about 10+ track days a year. If i want to keep the car reliable and I want more out of it I will have to spend heaps of money.

Benm, the first dyno shows exactly that, a 98 ron tune with 100 ron fuel, and the increase is the re-tune with no change in fuel. I was expecting a 20Kw increase was at the top end, but only got 10kw where everyone looks, the final top line figure. But the car did get 20kw's+ in some places, mainly in the street and track areas, as Im very rarely at 7800rpm at the track. Another point is the tune is safer then before, more fuel, less boost, less knock and more KW's, the perfect outcome.

I guess the difference was, I did not walk in and ask for as many KW's as possible, I asked for a supper safe track tune that will do 40,000km a year as well as a dozen track days per year, and I need the car to last another 2 years! I would suggest this is not a normal request for a GTR tune, hence why I did not end up with huge numbers.

I guess at the end of the day Im happy with the car and power figures, and as long as Im happy its all good!

My car ran really well on just the 100 ron, as the fist dyno shows, I did a couple of track days on the 100 ron the knock was lower then normal, but I did not feel any real changes in peformance. I did get an additonal 80km out of the car on long trips which was nice. 590km out of 1 tank earlier this year up the kempsy.

Too bad i didn't get there earlier to have a chat today Paul, cars going well though I see. Have to catch up soon ey.

Sorry mate, just missed you, I thinking of having a Friday arvo at my house in a few weeks the Boss will be in Melb with the kid, I will send you a PM.

Finally somone that can answer a question ive been wanting to ask for a while...

How is the GTR as a daily driver doing that many Ks ?

I do the same amount of KMs per year.....and thats in GTT, is the GTR too hardcore for daily driving doing that many Ks ?

Cause even now I sometimes wish I had a second more "comfy" car for daily driving.....

nice work paul. my only question is which 100ron fuel? was it optimax extreme? I am getting curious about using it in my car. we just switched from avgas to extreme for the race car and didnt really notice any drop in performance, and the extreme is easier to get, and cheaper (not by much though). in fact we were testing it for the first time the other day at Aarons day. and used it again this weeked with no problems.

Shonen, I think I covered 25k daily driving when I had my gtr. While its not a pain in the butt driving it on a daily basis, some roads are pretty unbearable. I blame the reasonably stiff factory vspec suspension. Other than the stiff ride, Ive had no gripes driving my gtr daily.

The only thing I can say, is that once I had it modified (larger than stock turbos), I lost a fair bit of mid range power, which made it less practical for driving at normal city speeds. For a street car, I think both Nick, Paul, Kris and Jerry have done well in their turbo choice

Oh and in relation to the topic, I had my car tuned for 100 RON fuel. I took it out to oran park and while I had extreme in the car, my knock levels did not exceed 30. The car had great power and smooth response. I then tanked up on optimax, and noticed an increase in knock spikes, up to around 40-45. Id suggest using extreme to be definitely worthwhile. The car should run smoother and knock should be reduced. You can always have a play around with timing on the pfc

Nah Jerry not yet. Buyer backed out.

I suppose the reason why knock was lower, is that the car was tuned for 100 ron. I used shell extreme (i know of no other 100ron fuel?). I found that running the extreme, I could play with the timing a fair bit more before I started to hit near 30 knock for daily driving stuff. It was VERY noticeable on the track, however, in that knock levels did not rise above 30, wheras straight after on the same day with the same temperature, and boost levels, a full tank of optimax saw me hit 45 on the pfc hand controller. Coincidence? Maybe? Bad batch of fuel? Maybe?

Try it out. 5% ethanol isnt going to kill your fuel lines. At least not in the short term :)

ahh thanks. there are other 100ron fuels. i believe united make one, avgas is also 100ron and elf make a 100ron too. i'm sure there is even more than that around though.

jerry yes i'm still a sceptic on it too. let me put it this way, i wont use it in the GTR just yet, and if i did i would go to the dyno, and fill it up there from drums. But like i said we did switch around a bit in the white race car from elf LMS to avgas, to pump fuel (optimax), then back to avgas, then to opti extreme. and not much difference bettween them, though it did seem a little crisper on the elf lms but it's $6 per litre... having said all that this is a 2 litre carby fed car, not turbo'd but it is high compression and highly tuned, and gets absolutely pounded.

    • I was using the wiring diagram I have So 12.74V is coming into the rear Fuel Pump relay as I measured.  When I turn the key to ON im getting 0.6V to the Fuel Pump plug; which i assume is backfeed voltage and doesnt include the 12V from ignition power.  The rear relay is working and being triggered.  From the diagram I clearly see the rear relay 80 = Rear Relay going into the Body/H loom (R-27) 27 = Fuel Pump plug going into the Body/H loom (T-20) 40 = Short Connector (R-27) I'm reading 12.74V on the blue/black wire which is the power for the Fuel Pump   From this diagram I can see the Ignition relay goes into the front and up to the ignition  2 = Fuel Pump Relay <1M> (R-27) 37 = ING Relay <1M> I started from the pump using this reference Which the way I read it (referencing Nissan wiring color codes) is: Pin Wire Color Function 1 B/P (Black/Pink) Ground 2 L/W (Blue/White)        ECU Trigger 3 SB (Sky Blue) Fuel Pump 5 L/B (Blue/Black) 12V Constant Tested SB to SB on Fuel Pump for continuity - confirmed Tested negative on Fuel Pump to 12V battery and L/B - confirmed 12V Pulled the relay putting 12V between Pin 1 & 2 and testing continuity on Pin 3 & 4 - confirmed relay   So that has me looking at this part of the circuit to understand whats happening here...and im still confused. From best I can tell; the disconnect is back to my previous diagram; between Ignition Relay and Fuel Pump Relay...which yet again; afaik is where the immobiliser should.    Thats what I was trying to explain to GTSboy; im not trying to fix it myself; yet I seem to have to get a Masters in Electrical Engineering (while im busy doing my actual job of DevOps & Cloud Engineering) somehow.  I just wanted more expert opinions; or more so that what I tested is correct and proves it to something around that area; to go back to the alarm tech (for a 3rd time) that he needs to fix it. He keeps telling me its not the alarm. He lives on the complete other side of the city so i understand not wanting to make a trip but as I said before if its the alarm it should be up to him to fix it. But he's adament its not; even though I pointed out the FP was immobilised through the original alarm. To my mind; it seems that the ECU is sending the signal; but the ignition is not getting 12V down the line.
    • Maybe also really stiffly sprung track cars. Get the inside wheel up in a corner and all the fun stops. Also me sometimes (rarely) when I have to stand on the brake to convince the diff to drive the wheel that is still on the ground when I'm trying to diagonally get over severe driveway entrance, etc.
    • I feel like I'm missing something. You had an authorised installer come out and install a new alarm. Post install the car doesn't start, and you aren't getting the installer back to fix what they did wrong?
    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
