Does anyone have any feedback on ADVAN performance in Silverwater. Took my car to get it dyno tuned and they said pump is at its max flow and leaning out too much...so they recommended going with bigger pump to be on safe side bosch 044..had a nismo one in place b4 recommendation.

my question is they said to me car would be ready but on the way there to pick up car..they rang and said it wont be ready and the car was still leaning out too much...should i have to pay them extra to find the fault? when they have already added the pump in. I understand if its not related to the pump at all, the cost i should pay for as want the car to be 100%...but if it was to do with the pump and the way it was installed..should i pay for it for them to find the fault? any thoughts.

If they fitted the pump and its still leaning out, it might not have been the NISMO pump you had in there making the car run lean. What hp is your car running and is the nismo pump you had in there rated at what hp?

not sure what rating the nismo pump is rated at..think its 125%..so think 25%more than stock....car was making 330rwkw on 16psi...sard injectors in there....does anyone know what the nismo ones is rated at?

They are a pretty quality workshop.

It may be that the pump is out of flow but as mentioned, if it's still leaning out with a bigger pump then maybe something else is wrong.

yeah but if they find that it is something else then do i fork out the 550 for the bigger pump (installed) when it wasnt necessary to have in the first place? thats my question...if that if fair for them to do tho.

at the start when they tried to tune it..my PFC was older version they had to get it sent to them from NZ..would the PFC program version that was used was wrong???

That sounds strange to me, the Nismo pump from memory is 276L/Per hour and should be find for that power level.

I know cars running over 400awkw with the Nismo drop in pumps without an issue.

As far as I know, the Bosch 044 flows something along the lines of 330L/Per hour.

What size Sard injectors are you using?

It sounds to me like something else is going on, however Advan is a very reputable workshop so im sure there is a logical explanation.

I find it hard to believe the nismo pump was causing you to lean out unless it was old and buggered. How much hp are you estimating to end up with from this tune?

Older versions of PowerFC are pretty common in R32's the only difference I know of is in the hand controller version you need to use with them. I suppose there could be other differences as well I haven't looked into it closely. Maybe he needed to send a hand controller over from NZ.

a BNR32 GTR nismo fuel pump flows 4600cc/min. that's 766 per injector. so if you are using sard 700cc injectors your pump can amply supply those injectors at max duty.

i really think the best thing to do is talk to them. they are the only ones who can shed some light on the situation. just ask them the questions you want to ask here. perhaps it was just a simple misdiagnosis, or perhaps your fuel pump was knackered. perhaps it wasnt really a nismo pump in the first place. either way they are the ones with the answers you want.

ive got sard injectors think they are 680cc ones in there with sard regulator....the the PFC has already got the hand controller in place there...they didnt have the older version n had to get it sent to them. Yeh maybe the pump wasnt a nismo item at all...whats the stock GTR pump good for in relation to RWKW? Mine was making 330 @16psi and they said was leaning out, so went with bigger bosch one. Hopefully they will have it worked out

stock pump is good for 550cc injectors (or approx 540 hp at the engine)if it's in good condition. have them flow test the pump they took out to determine if it was a nismo pump, or just a stockie.

edit: pretty sure that's right. stock pump is 196 l/h. or is it 220. cant remember. either way it's too small for injectors near 700cc.

Its begining to sound like you may not have had a Nismo pump at all, and if this is the case than Advan recommending you fit an 044 sounds perfectly normal to me.

yeh but they put in the 044 and said to me its still leaning out and now they have to find where it is, which will cost more doing so. So my thought was what if it wasnt the pump at all and got it replaced for nothing.

Thats a hard question to answer, I would be patient and discuss the issue directly with Peter or Brad at Advan

yeah just call back from peter...and it was the new fuel pump that they had put in was faulty....and now has been replaced with a new one....So do you guys think that i should foot the bill for that, i mean they changed the pump and it was faulty and had to find the fault and turned out being the new pump n now have replaced it.

Iam resonable in that if it was to do with sumthing else i wouldnt ask the question...but since it was the pump being faulty ..do you guys think would be fair for me to pay for the diagnosis that they had to do to find the problem??

No i wouldn't,

its up to them to provide the warranty on that if they sourced and installed it, so the time it took to diagnose that the pump THEY installed was faulty, is up to them to foot. Of course the original installation and pump price would still have to be paid.

There is no warranty on performance.

Once you accept it, life is a lot easier.

so if lets say a performance shop does something and doesnt do it correct your willing to pay for it? I'll pay for a service to be done 100% and no less, and why would anyone expect anyless?

Anyways it was clear today what was happening with the fuel pump the first one they put in was faulty and had to use another one. so all good and picking up car tommorrow....and no bad intentions was towards ADVAN at all Peter has been very helpful and good in getting this problem solved.

In your case they DID install the pump correctly... Dont go off on an unrelated path :happy:

Pump - installed and was faulty.

Bosch warranty covers the cost of the pump (i have one sitting next to me with the warranty seal on it.)

It does not however cover the labour cost, which is unrelated to the installation going by what your saying.

I would expect to pay the diagnosis cost because... there is no warranty on performance, only some of the parts... and then subject to condition.

and this is yet another example of why i wont put a bosch pump in my car. i dont know what it is but lately i've heard of so many bosch pump failures and the pumps being replaced under warranty. yet i've never heard of a single nismo pump failure. sure the bosch pumps flow the numbers but they are more time consuming to install and dont have the best reliability rate in my experience.

    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.      
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all).
