Another car crash appeared in the news:

A car driven by an elderly motorist has crashed through the glass doors of a shopping centre on the NSW mid-north coast, seriously injuring shoppers.

The car driven by the 83-year-old man smashed through the centre at Forster at about 4pm (AEST) yesterday, knocking over a number of shoppers, police said.

"It was crazy. The car was through the window [of] The Reject Shop," said Baker's Delight employee, Scott Keegan.

Since its not some young P plater, notice how News Interactive (who owns The Daily Telegraph) isn't calling on the driver and his demographic to have their licenses taken away from them? Its not the first accident involving an old person recently yet they don't get picked on like young people.

Also notice how the make and model of the vehicle wasn't mentioned, which means it probably wasn't an imported sports car.

Although since he crashed into a Reject Shop, it would be reasonable to infer that the driver must have been trying to return his Commodore.

Really tho. It news, its no longer to inform the public of whats going on, its to make money. We have a bad name, we are always going to have a bad name. Just wait till your old, and you have cars hooning around everywhere. Just as you are stereotyping a commodoor its going to be the same for us. It's quite funny..

The other day up here some (very) elderly woman ran through about two houses and into somebody's pool. She escaped.. and thankfully did not manage to injure anybody. She well could have killed somebody, or several people. Similar situation

And the story was presented almost as a light hearted piece "awww, a little old lady got a little muddled and ended up in a pool". If it was a P plater, or even worse an import+p plater it would have been all over the shop. Two standards.

It's not an isolated incident either. There are a heck of a lot of older 50+ drivers that are either killing themselves, or others out there, and the emphasis just isn't the same. Unfortunately with our country being run by oldies, and very little young people in parliament - there is no real reason to crack down on the older demographic or even look at that issue closely.

Did anybody read the article two days ago about car park rage. Some guy smacked an 80year old lady for taking his car park in a shopping centre. She fell forward breaking her nose. Broke her wrist as well i think.

my grandmother struggles to manouver the shopping trolley around shops. so it would be for the best to get her off the road

Until the public transport situation is better old people are sort of forced to drive themselves, with house prices the way they are, young people are moving to isolated areas with minmal or no public transport, and if Gran wants to visit....

Testing above an age limit is a solution but some adults I've met are just as bad or worse than them, how do you test for feeble mindedness?

Sure old people have accidents, but far less than young males in the 18-25 age group.

The sort of accidents old people mostly have are usually at fairly low speeds, and while the damage might sometimes be spectacular, or even funny, usually nobody gets hurt.

Big difference between granny reversing into a fire hydrant and flooding some poor bastards garage, and some young punk doing 200+Kmh and wrapping it around a steel pole and killing himself and three of his mates.

So some hopeless old fart crushing a supremarket trolley in a carpark, is not going to be front page news.

But if some young dude launches a GTR off a freeway ramp into the roof of an occupied house, it probably would make the six o'clock news.

Evidently, you see if they bought a Camry.

I found out later that night that they were driving a Camry. Apparently it was in the news, and the car didn't just punch through a shop window and stop at the counter. The guy ended up down the back of the shop or something.

A mate of mine works for garden state towing here in vic and at his work pace they have made a chart of all the ride off's that they pick up and sad to say but 96% of them r p platers and most of them r all young heros

who just got their licence and r driving powerful cars.
