Yes not a problem.

Contact CAMs in your state or go to the CAMs website

http://www.cams.com.au/

and you will find the Tarmac Rally regulations under updated links.

This lists the eligible cas and what mods (virtually none for Skylines) you can do.

Good luck

Please be aware that in NSW the RTA have put a temporary stop to all Rally rego applications for rally use only cars. I last spoke to CAMS in December and they advised the RTA is coming down hard on imports.

Other states seem ok, but in NSW you will find it very difficult to obtain rally rego, so just be sure to check it out fully if you live in NSW before taking the plunge.

Spot on, I am having a world of trouble.

Basically NSW RTA will not allow any new registrations for Rally rego for imports - the car must have full compliance instead.

Even though my car has previously been registered as a rally car it has now be refused new registration (I let it lapse since it was off the road at renewal time). I am following up a one-off exemption via CAMS NSW manager talking direct to senior mgmt at the RTA.

that sucks mate. especially as they wont even let you re-new the rally rego you once held for the car. as for having full compliance, what a joke. surely they must know that would be impossible as your car was imported as a rally car. such a shame, i mean it's not like we are talking about bucket loads of rally rego'd cars here. I can't see what their problem is.

My guess is the problem is importers bringing in rally only cars then selling them locally as cheap cars. Since in NSW they have standard plates there is no way for the cops to know they should be pulling them up to check permits. Just like the 15yo rule....abuse it until it gets shut down to genuine users

I understand in other states the plates are different to regular ones so they are more obvious.

CAMS and the RTA have been having long running discussions over the last 18 months....I just can't beleive I've been caught out with some sort of retrospective change like this.

Wish the RTA would come to a decision like issuing special rally only registration plates. It's been a long time now. Living in NSW can be frustrating!

At Rally Tas, alot of competitors had all these hot EVO's and WRX's and I ask them how they afford it, and they reply - jap import. Then I find out they are from SA, VIC or QLD. and rally rego is no problem.

In the near future I'd like to use an import for rally/track use only so I hope they clear it up soon.

Best of luck Duncan, I hope you are successful.

OK another update on this for NSW.

I am now the proud holder of the first rego for an uncomplied rally car in NSW and it was a bastard of a process.

Ultimately what you need is all of the cams paperwork (scruitineer inspection, log book, cams license) and rta stuff (blue slip, import approval). Then Michael Smith (NSW CAMS Manager) begs the RTA to approve the rego.

Once approved they assign conditional rego including a 99999C green and white rego plate. Amazingly this rego including greenslip is $90 per year. Then all you need is a permit # from CAMS each time you want to drive it.

So in the end everything is fine, its just that I was apparently the first to go through this new process. CAMS were excellent in helping out. RTA less so.

so no more chance of getting regular plates etc for your limited rego cars? what about cars that are currently registered under the old scheme can they just renew and renew their rego, or will they be forced onto the new system too?

Same for Qld.... special number plate that stands out.

But, car doesn't need to comply with ADR's, therefore, you can drive anywhere with (I think) 15klm from home/to and from an event/for repairs,.... all with no cats, weld in 6 point cage, noisy exhaust, SLICKS!!, race numbers etc..... so it's actually kinda cool! :(

The fuzz trips out! lol

No thats the silly bit. If you currently have full rego with conditions on an uncomplied rally car you can renew it as long as you like. You are only in trouble if, like me, you don't get a dodgy pink slip to renew it when it is off the road in a billion pieces for a year.

lol pretty much the same here marlin it is terrible to see the cops face when they realise its all legal afterall muahahah I can drive it to events, practice and workshops as long as I ring and get a permit first.

So if the workshop I go to is at the end of the old pacific highway at mount white (for instance) I am OK to hoon up the old road with noisy zorst, roll cage, race tyres etc etc

that's a bummer duncan. the stealth factor of stock plates was a big bonus. oh well, shame they wised up and a shame you got burnt for not pinkslipping your temporarily dissambled car. >_<

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
