Not wanting to waste time in this thread too much.. but for those who might be vaguely interested... I got prices from BMW

Front Discs are $595.27ea (rrp: 751.61)

Front Pads are $322.85ea (rrp: $431.62)

all prices are + 10% GST

Does anyone have a line on a set of 2nd hand tyres that I could buy in 275/38/18 (9.5" rear) and 245/45/18 (8" front)

I really want to come just need to work out the costs and whether I tell the MRS or not :D

Well, it seems we have Team Manager role all sewed up. GTRGeoff may be able to help out, but is still recovering from back surgery, so will see?!?!?

But, just speaking to a friend, and he is keen to help us out. He has been Crew Chief for a Nascar team back when they were running. Plus plenty of other experience in all things motorsport. He ia a champion guy and a car/motorsport nut. So would be perfect for the job.

Im even more stoked baout this now. With the right ppl involved this is going to be awesome fun, and with someone like this full time on the stopwatch and in the pits, well on that front we are a fair chance of doing well (not that it really matters...but a trophy would be cool)

Prerequisite for L2SJ Licence Holders.

As a prerequisite, all 2SJ licence holders MUST have competed at the Phillip Island Grand Prix

Circuit in some form of competition, within the past 12 months and will be required to

participate in an observed practice session during practice for this event. Proof of prior

participation in an event at Phillip Island must be presented at documentation. (A set of results,

or notations in activity section of licence, which must have been signed off by a senior official of

that meeting, will be accepted).

Whats the standard CAMS license that we have L2S I think aint it?.... Whats an 2SJ license?

shit that might just kill me from doing cos i have not run PI befor what can i do to fix this?

cos also i think me and james will have the same problem not track time?

Oh, actually. Thinking about dates...i think my run was over 12 months ago. Actually it was?!?!?! Will have to make a phone call

Scott, since you have not done a track day, and havent driven PI, im not sure whether you will be allowed to enter?!?! Ill ring and see what they have to say about me before asking about others

thats cool i have mt licence and everything just need to get out on the track cos if there was a nother day we could all enter and have a shot but if that not good well i wont be able to help sorry

OK Team manager hat is ON (unless health prevents it but count me in).

That prerequisite is for L2S Junior so open L2S is fine.

Aaron, congrats on the good news. Have you contacted a local brake and clutch place? They should have disc blanks available from RDA that can be machined to size and slotted. Racebrakes should have a decent price on pads as well, for example GTR genuine pads are about $1000 but $270 for the front axle in RB74 compound. Worth an ask.

How are we for team numbers? If we are short I'd love to offer a slot to one of the guys from SelectMaz. Can't guarantee they would take it but it would be good exposure and they are a great bunch. Watch for a new topic shortly in the VIC section where I thankl them for their support.

I'll also ask Spence if he wants to tag along to watch and swing some spanners on the day. He's a very highly qualified mechanic, so much so that he almost can't swing spanners anymore.

Geoff out.

Hey Geoff,

DBA/RDA dont make any discs for the M5.. or their catalogues dont say they do.... I am going to ring around, but we'll see what I can find... BMW should be able to help somewhat with their pads, but I think the Ferrodo DS2500's would be appropriate for this sort of application

I have asked the MRS permission to join this event :).... Andrew and I are heading out to teh 2nd hand tyre places in Reserviour tomorrow to see what we can find the way of rubber :woot:

Cheers,

Aaron

Well done Aaron. I normall go to Northwest, but they were taking a new delivery yesterday so I couldn't get in. I went to Newlands tyres and got great prices for the 17's so give both a shot, but it seems Newlands are cheaper.

Hope that helps, pity about RDA but maybe thay or Racebrakes can do custom hats and replacement discs for the price of original BMW.

Just make sure you carefully inspect every tyre before buying from them. They often get tyres with chuncks out of the bead or the sidewall.

I have bought a lot of tyres from them in the past.

Thanks for the advice .... We'll give them two goings over just to make sure, I was also warned to make sure we dont get alpine tyres...

Bris - did you get anywhere with people who had either not driven PI or did but more than 12 months previously? :D

I think its just the juniors to which that was applicable .. Ferni looked into it I think....

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
