Hi guys

New to SAU & skylines. I would be greatful if someone has any advice or recommendations on lowering my stock R34 GTT S2 4dr. :ninja: I will have my new R34 within a week (being transported from QLD) and the first thing I would like to do (after getting it registered) is lower it so it does not look like big foot! :P

I know after market coilovers (bilsteins or equivalet) would be the best solution, but I cant afford the $1400+ price tag. My question is: Does the S2 R34 have standard coilovers and can they be adjusted at all? Or I have read somewhere on SAU that King Springs are a cheaper alternative to lowering than coilovers? What else would be an option? I only intend to use the R34 as a street car so fully adjustable suspension is not a priority at this stage.

Any help would be much appreciated.

See what I mean :)

Kings are a cheaper way to go.. But

Keep you eyes open in the parts section of the forums for second hand parts

They are out there .

And if you lucky you may pick up a exhaust of the same guy

Mine was a Big Foot once. Not a new part on it :ninja:

Yes you have to be quick to get the good second hand parts! I will try and keep my eye out. Ok it has one modified part - a 3" apexi cat back exhaust, so looking at getting a dump pipe and high flow cat after it is a decent ride height!! :ninja:

If they came with nismo bilstein option they're you're in luck.

Hi Howie, from memory the R34GTT Nismo Bilstein option was 15 mm lower than standard, similar height to an R34GTR. You can have the additional circlip grooves added (same as the Group Buy) if you want to go a little lower. I would suggest 3 grooves at 8 mm apart as a maximum. That will give you the potential to go down 24 mm from where they are now (ie; 39 mm lower than standard). They handle best around 350 mm front and 340 mm rear (ie; 30 mm down from standard). So the second additional groove would be the go.

If you want to go that low you will need camber kits, so please keep the following in mind when lowering yours. This is what is usually needed for each height increment, note that all measurements are centre of wheel to guard;

Standard (new) height is 380 mm front and 370 mm rear

360/350 mm needs only the standard rear camber adjusters

350/340 mm needs 1 front camber kit and 1 rear camber kit

340/330 mm needs I front camber kit and 2 rear camber kits

Otherwise keep a look out for nismo bilstein's second hand.

Thanks for all the advice, I would say springs and shocks are the least expensive way to go. Any recommendations on brands apart from Kings or Whiteline? And where is the best place in East Melb to find some? :D

you're best bet would be getting SydneyKids R34 supsension kit.

Bilstein shocks (revalved) and whiteline springs. The guys knows his stuff, and the kid has had some really positive results.

I know for a fact that there are some R34 shocks ready to go at the moment, all revalved, just ready to be shipped.

Kings are $120 a pair i think? so bout $240-50?

like you im still deciding wheather or not to just replace the springs with low kings or whitelines; however i have been checking out Slidewize auctions and you can pickup coilovers pretty cheap. Anyone heard of GAB coilovers?(any good) they seem to be all over the auction at cheap prices.

i dunno, i think that's a nice ride height...

i want to lower mine but if i did that, i'd have to be careful of the cats eyes on the road! my front bar would certainly not allow it..

oh, SK kit includes height adjusting thingies...

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
