Big Up For A & B Motorsport In Brookvale !

Recommended Posts

As you may know - I have my fair share if 'interesting' experiences with mechanics & workshops. So when I go to one that give me outstanding service and quality of product (and price) - I like to share the goodness !

So the story goes:

Went looking for some coilovers for my TX3 race car project. A member of TeamEunos (like SAU but for Mazda/Eunos/Cosmo etc) recomended that I try A&B Motorsport in Brookvale.

Talked to Frank, the owner, and he showed my his inverted race coilovers with adjustable everything (damper, height, camber, etc) - they were a good price, so I told him that I'd think about it !

Whilst there - I noticed some 8 piston calipers with massive rotors and I asked him about them for the Cosmo - Although they didn't have a specific kit for the Cosmo - he said he could make one up for me. He also told me that I I took the coil overs, that he would fit the brakes for a good price.

So I went with the deal. He spent 2 days getting the brakes 200% right ! Didn't charge me for the 2 days and he had to make new brackets, and spend a bunch of time with different types of rotors to get the right offset etc.

As an example - the original wheel studs with the new rotors meant that the wheel nuts would only go on 80% - Most other workshop would have just left it at that - But being particular about his work, he hunted down 10 new studs that were 10mm longer that the originals - so that the wheel nuts went on fully and then some !

Very happy with the final result ! 8 Piston calipers, braided lines, all fluid changed, 330mm slotted rotors - It stops like a demon now !

I liked the coilovers for the TX3 - and asked about the Cosmo - again, no specific kit - but he would make one up - Sure enough - Got the car back - and perfect ! Sits lower - he got all the adjustments/allignment and stuff spot on 300% perfect. Ride is firm but comfortable and the car looks a hell of a lot better sitting lower and with the big brakes on the front !

So a big UP to Frank and Rob at A&B Motorsport in Brookvale !

Give them a hoy - if you are after brakes, suspension, etc - They also have a dyno - they don't tune yet - just power runs.

Cheers,

Suprisingly not !

My old rotors were warped - and the Cosmo come with tiny rotors and single pot calipers. So I investigated options - The best and most affordable option was 2nd hand FD RX7 Calipers with RX8 rotors. I figured about $2000-$2500 for this - Also there was a bit of machining and mucking around for this conversion.

Both Calipers, 330mm rotors, braided lines, fluid and pads, including fitting cost me $2,500.

Before the upgrade - front to left difference in pressure was 9% - Now it is less then 1%.

The brake kit is designed in Japan and manufatured in Taiwan - Brand is K-Sport ! (Similar to the ones Just Jap sells) but these guys are a workshop so any non standard stuff or hard to replace items (eg for a Cosmo) - they work out how to do it !

Very Happy !

Sounds good B-Man.

K Sport are exactly the same as G4 Racing (only the G4 kit is a little cheaper)

All the reports I have heard about G4 have been outstanding in terms of braking performance, particularly on the track! :)

really?

nice... i need new brakes and was wondering what G4 were like..

Yeah - they are the same as G4 - However, in my case - if I had bought the kit from JJ, then got an adaptor made, new studs and all the labour - I reckon I ended up paying heaps heaps less !

They are awsome brakes ! absolutely briliant compated to the standard cosmo - there is no comparison !

yep they are pretty cool. i bought som lk-sport coil overs and mucked around with springrates and they were fine with it. also both my rear dampers exploded(pulled the seel in and leaked everywhere) they replaced them no questions asked :P still in warenty but yeah .

i had to turn down the funny spaarkplugs and wierd vortex intake lol

good man. especially if he had press studs on the back of those jeans. i'd he-bitch man slap him. apart from that the brakes look massive, and i like the wheels. good choice bman.

Very nice! 8 piston just adds to the bling as well.

Have you investigated what pads the calipers support? I am guessing porsche?

Bman, to say you have had your fair share of dodgy dealings is a gross understatement  Luckily for SAU club members you have taken enough bad luck to cover the 'team'....... I mean club :(

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
