lol daaaam 240k

no no that's not the price... "240K" is the model name of the car. It was sold in Australia as a "datsun 240K". Trust me, you don't want one of those... if you wanna get a 240K and build a replica you might as well buy an AE86 Sprinter. They're all rust buckets the ones in oz.

Any of the older GTR's you have to import from japan, and you can't afford them on a 20k budget.

No matter what anyone says you should buy a house or invest it.

A car will frill you for the first few months of ownership but having a nice bank balance and equity will make you smile even more.

20 grand is alot of money espicially for a 20 year old.

Sure you may say people spend hundreds of thousands on cars so you spending 20 grand is nothing comparitive. But they would have alot more going for them then just enough to purchase a car.

Save up another 5grand, then maybe have a look at something like an S15 200SX Autech, theyre a really sweet looking car, pretty damn good power for an SR20DE (think around 148kw) and theres a few coming into the country around the 25-28g mark

But 20 grand on a car what a waste. The speed limit is 100 nowdays so why bother.

Why not buy a cheap race car and learn to drive quickly?

And have something cheap to run during the week?

Type R .....yummy.....0-100 in about 6 secs....1/4 mile in 14.5...redline at 8400rpm!!

i cant belive ppl are calling these girls cars. ther light, fast and known to be one of the best handling fwd cars. def worth a look at.

i was going to say, get a limited soarer or a celcior and just cruise around... in style, but you cant, because you cant own a V8...

man its a pain in the ass to live in australia these days...

Hey guys I was just wondering... I have a friend that has a turbo car but they got their P's before the rule applied.

So I'm guessing it doesn't cover them right?

What happens if you get pulled over, and you got your P's after the rule applied? I wonder if cops actually look at P platers licence to see if they got their licence after the rule applied?

Any ideas on the fine?

I just still see too many P platers still with turbochargers, supercharged and V8 cars.

Oh well.

First car, $20k budget, speed and handling a must? Thought about a hot hatch?

Renault Clio Sport or Peugeot 206 GTi?

Both NA, both go suprisingly hard and handle suprisingly well, both within budget. More importantly for a first car though - they're both very safe in a crash, and both very fuel efficient.

And clio's look horn with a wide body kit:

Alternatively, how about a 2JZGE Soarer?

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
