I"M POSTING THIS BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE ARE SAYING ONE THING AND OTHERS ANOTHER

this is the "new victorian graduated licensing system"

i got some info from vicroads today....

*note! check with vicroads for full info and not to take this as the full new laws*

WHEN

  • alcohol interlock (read below as to what) - january 2007
  • the new L plate requirements - july 2007
  • the high powered vehicle restriction for P platers (read below) - July 2007
  • the new P1/P2 plates requirements and new driving test (read below) - july 2008
    SOME KEY CHANGE"S
    L plates...
    • must have 120 hours of experince including 10 hours at night
    • no use of moblies, hands-free or hand-held or any messaging of any kind
    • must carry learners permit whlie driving (duh)

    ****P plantes*****

there will be 2 P plates introduced... P1 and P2 (sounds alot like b1&b2 )

    P1 plates...

    • P1 drivers are on the P1 plate for 12 months(if over 21 yr's old then you go stright to P2 plates, only if u had ur L's for 12 months
    • MUST have a good driving recored to progress through each licence stage. A POOR DRIVING RECORD EXTENDS THE P1 AND P2 LICENCE BY ***6 MONTHS***
    • for P1 drivers, towing is not permitted except for work or under instruction
    • new HIGH POWERED vehicle restriction will prevent P platers from driving vehicles with :
engines with eight or more cylinders
      turbocharged or supercharged engines
nominated high performance six cylinder engines
engines that have been mod'ed to increase performance

***People who are over 26 and still on there P's****

    • ALL drink drivers (and first timers) will have to fit a alcohol ignition interlock when relicenced, for a minimum of six months

    VEHICLE IMPOUNDMENT

if a driver intentionaly makes the care lose traction or unsafe behaviours (eg.. speeding, draging)

there are now provisions that allow police or courts to impound a car...

repeat offenders will have there cars' impound time will be longer and will be possable for the car to be forfeited.

i dont know about the impounding... if they alppy now or what but u get the pic

    BTW!!! :P:P:rant::rant::rant::rant: X 1000000000 dam it!

i still got to get my L's yet :P

well i'm gett'n them this month

but they do suck...

no turbos

well theres a few skylines gone for me

i got to get a bloody non turbo :P

Having to buy a non-turbo? What's changed, under the old system all turbo skylines (except for a particular few years worth of R32) were on the banned list.

Meh, i got my P's last year, so the new rules don't apply to me.

They will if you decide to change cars, that is to a turbo/v8 car

P2 plates? Once your over 21 you get these? I dont quit get what your saying.

i have two cars with:

engines with eight or more cylinders

turbocharged or supercharged engines

nominated high performance six cylinder engines

engines that have been mod'ed to increase performance

and under the current restrictions i can drive them, but i wont be 21 till october next year, so.. i won't be able to drive them? Does this only apply to people who havnt got there licence yet? Or had it for what amount of time?

Very irritating..

So nothing about making the test more stringent then in the above legislation.

The test would be the first part to weed out some of the shocking drivers and keep them on L's until they are of a high enough standard for the roads. This includes under confident and over confident.

The info you have posted appears to give Vic Roads a bit more scope for banning vehicles that were previously in a loop hole.

Heading in the right direction but that alone will not solve everything.

I'm still on my p's and I have a turbo'd line cops pull me over every chance they get but they have never stoped me from driving.. They asked me if I can drive it on my p's. so I checked the list.... (about 5 months ago)I can just not a grt... I think the new list is different.. but seeing I already have the car and my p's I don't think it will effect me??

Or am I wrong :(

well its like anything with vicroads

if theres a big accident in an intersection and its a fatality all of a sudden they want to invest a quater of a million to redevelop the intersection to make it more safe. they probably dont even know why the accident occured, let alone it could actually be the drivers at fault and not the intersection

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
