I have been looking into 2.8L kits and it seems to be slightly slim for choices.

The tomei kit is not a full counter so i have ruled that out.

The hks step 3 is the only one that i am highly considering for 2.8's

Now i had a question as to how would the Nismo 2.8 gt crank hold up in a high hp application.

I have been reading about a company who ran the stock crank in a 1000hp car and did well over 44 dyno pulls and numerous 1/4 mile runs. This makes me think that the 2.8 gt crank would be as strong as or stonger but i have not seen it being used.

I have also been looking at the trust 2.7 full counter kit and the tomei 2.7 full counter.

I will not go OS 3L :D

Any help would be great.

unless you want massive power then you are setting your criteria far too high. a step 1 or 2 HKS kit will hold plenty of power. It's only if you want the massive revs and massive power that you need even consider the step 3 kit. The tomei 2.8 kit is also fine for most hard core street/strip cars. In japan at the moment it seems the HKS kit has the slight edge on popularity though. They are both around the same price, and in my eyes good value.

as stated what is the purpose of the engine?!

stock crank and rods can handle 800hp (while given not indefinitly!), so any of the aftermarket cranks you mention should be fine. the step 2 HKS kit is ~800 rated, and as this rating is very much more than likely conservative, im sure if your building a street car that it will handle 1000.

Either way it sounds like fun, my HKS step 2 is nearly done!

I guess i should have worded that better my bad.

I am wondering what other kits are available and if anyone knows wha tthe nismo 2.8l gt crank can take power wise.

Crower's 2.9l will be out shortly in the new year.

I don't know if Apexi is still producing the 2.9L

The build will be tracked at around 1200 bhp and ran around 800bhp most of the time.

For the money.....

Would it not be wiser to spend it on a 3L bottom end , a set of oversized forged pistons,cams and

a decent head port?

I Find these kits to expensive.

What modes do you have and what power figures are you looking at?

The problem with the RB30 blocks is that unless you spend big dollars on a decent crank, they will explode at around 7500rpm.. my mate has a twinturbo twincam RB30 which he is pulling out to replace with a HKS Rb26/28 stroker.. so he can rev it to 10000rpm :D

u dont need to rev them (rb30) out to make big power, as they make the same power as other kits at lower rpm. plus u cant go expecting to rev a standard crank to nything near 10k like u could do with say a HKS, caus the HKS is full counter-forged, its like comparing apples and oranges

my rb30 is pretty much finished, im just waiting on the sump and my adapter plate to be ready (i've made my own adapter plate)

to make big torque or big power? as horsepower is a function of torque and revs, then yes more revs = more power..

and what exactly is "counter-forged"? do you mean they are forged and counter-balanced?

torque wins races, horsepower sells cars :wave:...no1 wants a big power street driven car that when they smack the go pedal they gotta wait 6000rpm to go anywhere

and yes, i was being lazy :D

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?

    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
