iv currently got a n1 fuel pump but after readin n hearing about a few go bust im considering the jun oil pump. are there any significant differences? ive just had a full engine rebuild and whacked on a t04z... all help is muchly appreciated.

it depends if you have a wide or narrow oil pump drive on the crank and what harmonic balancer you are using, either will be fine if you have a good balancer and a crank collar. Just make sure you put loctite on the bolts that hold the pump halves together.

why do you put loctite on the 2 halves?

i just put my tomei pump in...

buy the Jun pump. if you have a big dollar motor they are well worth it at around $1200 or so from memory. They flow a fair whack of oil though so I think what nick is getting at is if you are going to run the jun pump, you better be running an enlarged and baffled sump, and consider other oil control mods too (oil restrictor in the head feed, and add an external drain too).

Bingo

well if money is no object the Tomei is adjustable (for oil pressure) but it's another $500 or so, and in my mind is money better spent elsewhere. The jun one doesn't really give any increased pressure over the N1, but it does have vastly increased flow at any given oil pressure. I think the Jun pump is a good compromise between $$$ and performance. otherwise you end up spending so much you'll wonder why you didn't spend a bit more and dry sump it.

Go the Jun/HKS/Trust oil pump route for the big dollar, high HP, big rev RB26's.

We used an N1 pump in an RB30 conversion recently and the cast gears fractured causing a complete engine failure :O:)

Most of the top shops in the east won't use the N1 pumps anymore.

Cheers

Ken

make sure u pay attention to the oil return in your engine. or if you drive it hard for a period of time it may drop the bottom end like mine did. especially running a high flow oil pump

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
