i was planning on doing it the otherway round 20 crank and cons in a 25 block what i wanted to know was is the small end bearings the same for a 20 and a 25 also

does any1 have the conrod lengths and piston hights (small end to top) for both 25 and 20

RB20 - Std Rod Ratio 1.743

RB25 - Std Rod Ratio 1.694

RB26 - Std Rod Ratio 1.65

RB20DET - 78mm Bore/ 69.7 Stroke,

RB25DET - 86mm Bore/ 71.7 Stroke

RB26DETT-86mm Bore/ 73.7 Stroke

20 conrod length 121.5 rod journal bearing 45

25/26 conrod length 121.5 rod journal bearing 48

30 conrod length 152.7 rod journal bearing 50

Hope that helps, by swapping the 20 crank in the 25 you will destroke the motor, and have a smaller rod journal bearing, but the R/S ratio will improve to that of the RB20, you may need custom pistons though. Overall displacement will be 2055.651316787177cc

I think the idea is to use the short revy stroke of the RB20 with the volume you get from running 86-87mm bore. If you can work out the piston deal (pin heights) then its a great wasy of getting a rev crazy 2.4L

I have also thought about the poor mans budget RB20 stroker where you get the unloved RB26 crank and rods out of an R32 GTR and use them with the std pistons (Again pin heights etc????) You get very little increase in displacement, but you dont have to modify the combustion chambers etc etc as is the case if you go the 3-4mm overbore. The extra stroke from the RB26 crank will give you more torque accross the rev range.

i hadent heard about using a rb25 crank and rods. ive only ever heard about using rb26 items.

using RB25 items gives you an RB23, whereas RB26 crank and rods as well as the right sized pistons gives you an RB24

well. Im still umming and arring about it all. Sofar allot of the results i've seen have been VERY dissapointing. A car for sale at UAS with an RB24 is only making 287rwkw, i've heard of others making around this power. For the ammount of cost involved to do it, and only getting figures that small, well it makes me want to change my mind and go RB30DETT. But when watching DVD's etc, of cars down the 1/4 in Japan, some RB24 engined cars are running in the 10's

Oh yea, and having seen the results the HPI demo car gave, well, that was laughable.

i think u miss understood i would be replacing the both the conrods and the crank which would give me a capacity of 2429.2419391773424cc

a bore of 86 and stroke of 69.7 im also planning on using rb30 pistons if i can just need 2 check the small end sizes as this will decrease the compression ratio so i can run high boost

heh, i was thinking twin HKS 28 series or something if i went through with my stroker motor :whistling:

guy in SA bought a 32 gtst from KANSAI with a RB23 in it. with a T78 - made 400+rwkw!!!

i also have a rb24 with a hks2530 making 240rwkw.

I know i could have more, but have sacrificed peak HP for more usable power for me with drift.

ahh i never new that. so can you pretty much just drop in a 25 crank and rods and get the rb23 or do you need to biuld the motor properly?

what was the final figures on the HPI rb24????? i never seen the final output. that car kinda pissed me off because they would say just slap in a gtr crank and rods and your done mate. they never tell you just how hard it all is. like how the block has to keep getting ground so the crank will clear the sides and so on. plus they buy all this brand name stuff from japan that is very hard to get in aus and say yea this is a grate mod if you can find the parts.

basicly final power output cant realy determine how good a motor is as like someone said before it is hugely govened by the turbo. but a stroker motor gives you torque and diferent engine charecteristics. torque wins races and spins the wheels better.

as far as strokers go thoe everyone seems to say rb30det are the best dolar for kilowat engine biulds.

Do you happen to know the lengths? I dont have the actual pieces on hand, I found the info from aftermarket conrod manufacturers on the internet. I cant imagine the rods are that different, other than the bearing width, as it would make sense from a production standpoint

i just read somewhere else that the rod lengths for a 26 are the same as a 25 and the diff is made up in the pin height in the pistons but i am sure the 20s cons are a diff length

also i found out that the pin diameter for a 30, 25, and 26 are all 21mm diameter if any 1 could tell me the diameter of the 20s that would be very useful

RB20 rods are the same length as rb25 and 26 little end pins or gudgen pins also the same dia only differance is the big ends are smaller in the 20 rods .I had all three measured up for my rebuild just b4 xmas

500rwhp/370rwkw is asking far too much from an RB20 that will be driven.

I couldnt begin to think the levels of boost required when you need well over 20psi to hit 400rwhp.

Gibson HR31 comes to mind

RB20DET-R, GTS-R turbo (im guessing hi-flowed), lumpy as f**k cams, ported head, cosworth pistons

460rwhp @ 8,000rpm on 1.7bar (24.6psi) of boost

But I guess with a factoruy backed budget anything is achievable

In the end I dont think anyone who aims for this amount of power is looking for a streetable RB20DET, although Im keeping mine registered to have some fun....

Im going to be running the same turbo and exhaust manifold, a Jun intake plenum, 040 pump, 550 jectors, remapped ecu, and maybe cam gears, should get 260rwkw on 18-20psi with some luck :glare:

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
