Big congrats to Webbo, give him a car that'll finish a race and he puts it on the podium, well done

lol...bit out of context don't you think...

werent there some on here who doubted Hamiltons ability to pass/??

umm..around the outside of fisi at the Shumi esses, and on the grass at that.

gee...great move then...

You're supposed to pass on the track.

this thread is getting funnier...people basically regurgitating the entire race as if they were all there or running a team...

a great question and a good answer from the interviews:

Q: (Dan Knutson – National Speed Sport News) Mark, given the reliability problems for you this year, how much tension was there for you over those last laps thinking the car might just break again?

MW: Absolutely horrible, because I wasn’t that confident to be honest because if you look at our reliability record it has been quite poor and there are still a lot of components that we need to get more confidence in to be honest in a grand prix. So once we had done our second stops, and I had a comfortable third going on the slick tyres and I thought ‘just stay together, just stay together’ and I saw the rain coming and I knew there was going to be a few variabilities before the race was over. But there is absolutely nothing I can do about that, I have to just keep pushing and if the car stops… I have plenty of experience with that, but I don’t have very much experience with being up here. I’m bloody happy to be here so it’s good.

lol that last bit is gold.

and another ripper:

Q: Mark, it must be a great relief to be on the podium again?

MW: You don’t say mate. It’s a bloody huge relief for the whole team and for myself. We’ve been ripped off quite a lot in the past but it is always down to preparation. It’s not due to luck, it’s not due to this and that.

lol, you don't say!!

hes the real deal cobber, fairdinkum.

that result wont do him any harm come seasons end.

unfortunately i just dont know if hes got the cajones of an alonso or raikkonen to be up there on a consistent basis and man if i hear him say " well, i got off the line pretty badly today.." one more time ill go down there and f**kin put HIM in the bloody tree.

Jacques " Ill put you in the f*king wall!

Bagota bruiser " Oh YEAH? ill put you in the F$"#"&G TREE!"

priceless.

Speed "Assaulted" by STR Team Boss!

Eifel, Germany – 7/22/2007

Scott Speed was reportedly involved in a physical altercation with Scuderia Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost after the European GP, we can reveal. The incident must cast doubts over his short-term future with the team.

Speed was one of several drivers to spin off at the start of the third lap when confronted by a wall of water at the first corner. He was soon joined in the gravel by teammate Tonio Liuzzi, who came out of the pits after stopping for extreme wet tires and suffered an apparent technical failure that was probably related to a nudge from behind on the first lap. He narrowly missed the safety car, and struck a recovery vehicle.

Having lost both cars in the first five minutes, tensions were apparently running high when Speed returned to the team garage from the scene of the accident. After an initial discussion with Tost, Speed had reportedly turned to walk away when Tost apparently made a grab for him, in what one witness described as an “assault.”

It has become increasingly apparent in recent weeks that Liuzzi and in particular Speed have fallen out of favor with Tost and team co-owner Gerhard Berger, and Sebastien Bourdais is being prepared for a future with the team. After this latest development, it would seem that the relationship between Speed and the management may preclude the American from driving the car again.

On Saturday a frustrated Scott told SpeedTV.com: “Gerhard and Franz have their own ideas about what they want to do with their future, and they say things accordingly. That’s nothing to do with my performance on the track, that’s for sure. It’s clear that from my bosses me and Tonio both have very little support.

“It’s been that way for the last two years, and it’s a lot more now. At some point I said I don’t care -- if I’m not in F1 next year, if I’m with a different team, it’s OK for me. It’s actually made me lot more relaxed and a lot more calm, and I think I’m producing better results, actually.

“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to read the press and know that Franz and Gerhard are pushing like hell to get rid of me and Tonio.”

After the race, the team showed scant regard for the needs of the international media when it issued a fatuous press release which, rather than containing the usual useful information and quotes from personnel, carried the message, “Nothing to say.” Thus the media at large was not informed that Liuzzi had experienced a technical problem prior to his accident.

:)

looks like french fries is a lock for the STR drive next year... awesome

i told you that weeks ago mate. you forget already?

back to the GP itself, i couldnt help but piss myself laughing at michael Schumachers rodeo shirt!! he presented The Ron with the trophy and looked like an absolute shocker doing it!! did anyone see that??

the man has NO fashion sense whatsoever. Doesnt his wife like pimp slap him every time he thinks of wearing that garbage??

maybe she likes people laughing at him--keep his ego in check or something. She cant do anything about that manly jawline though, can she. :PBJ: :PBJ:

I quite like ralph's old one of: "...next time I shall have him off". sound very funny threatening someone in his private school ESL type english.

who do you reckon would win out of these bust ups..

for me it would be

Shumi snr vs Schumi jnr..? JNR, just because hes been held under by his brother so many years, surely that anger has to be stored in a fist or two//

Montoya vs Villenueve? Monty hands down. Jacques was always quick to spout shit and not be able to do anything about it..

Webber vs Coulthard?: I reckon the scot in this one although i think both would get hits in.. if it went the distance though, definitely webber.

Alonso vs Massa? : A tie i reckon. theyd just keep bitch slapping each other using names like bitch, sissy, pansy and the like..theyd have to be pryed apart...

Mansell vs Senna..actually anyone vs Senna..Senna would own the british bulldog..hed probably go nuts on them, send the mafia after them or something./.

senna had a major screw loose...

well i THOUGHT Seb was coming to F1, but im just confirming the lock

its not official YET... That publication has been known to..."twist" the truth a bit so dont read too much into it

Having said that it wont be long until an announcement is made. the team have wanted him to drive for months now.. im expecting it within the next couple of races.

why they used speed and liuzzi as stop gaps is beyond me..like they needed to see if SB could do it again one more time in America before they gave him the seat...

Speed is too punkrock for the game..big words, no action. Never put his money where his mouth was. all attitude, ZERO results.

As for Liuzzi..i think hes burning out and looks really despondent. hes definitely better than his showings but man, hes made way too many mistakes...

hes got noone to blame but himself if he gets replaced.

Speed to be out before or after Hungary. I put a tenner on it.

i think Alonso would have the reach on Massa, and old webbo would be too fit and quick gor DC

what about Lewis v Kimi? tough call

no i agree. Webber would outlast DC but i reckon DC has a harder punch..looks a bit more likely to throw one too..

lewis Vs kimi...

i say kimi because you look in his eyes and its like, what the feck is going on in that head of his..

kimi is like Big Chris from Lock,Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels

you just know a pshcho is lurking under there somewhere but he sugar coats it with mono syllabic dialog whilst staring you unflinchingly right in the eye ball..

Kimi in 1.

Rosberg vs Pique?

or this might be fairer...Lewis vs Pique

id pay to see that one..one more season and we can see the fur fly!

Who'd take his seat?

Doornbos? armer....le..er?

no, either Sutil or Vettel. Sutils only contracted to spyker until the end of the year and Spyker are looking to get Klien to fill the space. Vettel is on a loaner to BMW as we allknow but Red Bull may try to speed his early release to get him in the seat for next year. Its contractual.

If they cant have him from BMW early, then Sutil will most likely take the seat and depending on what happens next year..well lets just say that STR have their bases covered and no shortage of options.

I doubt they will replace Liuzzi this soon as he has categorically been the better racer, even if prone to mistake although as with webber, most of Liuzzis havent even been his own but due to equipment failure or someone else nurfing him off..

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
