Hi

I’ve finally sold my Skyline now that my Supra arrived in the country.

I didn’t realized that during compliancing I had to replace the aftermarket seats, 18” mags and steering wheel and GT wing in order for it to pass the engineering inspection. The next problem is to take it over the pit. I was wondering if it’s possible to leave the aftermarket seats and 18” mags on ?? Or do I need to apply for a permit, or are they illegal altogether??

Assuming that I have to replace my seats with factory seats and 17” mags. Are there any Supra owners out there would like to lend me their seats and mags for ½ day just for the pit inspection. I’ll pay you for your trouble..

Thanks

Richard.

I believe (correct me if im wrong) but now the imports have to be returned to stock specs before they can be complied. So prob have to replace all the stuff with stock stuff to get approved.

By the way nice car, loose the shite looking wing anyway, SUPRAS look so much tougher wingless at the back..ahhha SLEETH.

Hi Daniel,

My car passed through the old import scheme, so it's OK. But the pit inspection is another story, I was told that WA might not be as strict as other states. But not sure ..

Heheh .. I like the GT wing :D Although I have the original spoiler if they wont pass the GT wing.

Can't believe that I have to remove the aftermarket steering wheel and replace it with a factory standard steering wheel with air bag :) ..

Bye

Richard.

Richard,

Nice car mate:D You should be able to get the car passed as is, but it will all depend who you get on the day. If there a-holes then they will pick you up on everything.

If a car came out with air-bag steering wheel then it is meant to be retained, but most of the guys at the pits wouldn't know. I'd try to get it passed as it, then if they knock you back on a few things then just sort them out.

See'ya:burnout:

I passed mine at midland, the guy goes "its got a compliance plate dont it" me "yup" the guy "ah ok, we dont have to check it all then, I'll just drive it around the block". Basically they checked the light, horn, window washers, turn the wheels one way turn them the other way. passed. very easy for me and not very stressing :D

Hi Guys,

Unfortunately I got my car complied in QLD, as it turned out the guy who’s complying my car is straight by the book (pretty anal). He wouldn’t pass the engineer inspection unless I replaced the seats, mags, steering wheel, GT wing, and silence the exhaust. I didn’t realise they were so strict over there?

Anyway, it’s probably not worth putting back the aftermarket steering wheel, but I’ll leave the rest of the stuff on and see if they’ll pass me or not. I’ll definitely take it down to East perth this time, just around the corner from work, because I too had bad experience at Welshpool with my Skyline.

Do you guys know if I can get a permit for the 18" mags and a/m seats ??

Lastly, I know this might be a stupid question :P !! But will 17” (235x45x17 and 255x40x17) ) wheels fit on 18” mags :( ?? I’ve already got a set 17” wheels, so not really looking forward to buy another set of 18” wheels for the car if I can help it.

Thanks,

Richard.

Dude for the pits you may need a permit if the wheel is undersized. Make sure it's available in Australia. Most places won't mind if it went through Eng. with it then they'll be cool. Just make sure you take your papers with you.

The wheels shouldn't be a problem if the rolling size is the same as stock.

Takes a look at photo....

The Bride seat will have to go as they aren't ADR'd. Volk rims should be okay.. Wheel looks taky anyhow as does the wing so I reckon your doing it a favour to toss em.

Wack the seat back in but it looks the goods......

Yep, I prefer the original steering wheel as well, after all I rather my face hitting an air bag rather than a solid wheel in a crash.

Hmm seems like most people don't like the GT wing, but I think it's quit cool :(

S***, and I'm about to bring back my Supra to Sydney... I've owned it for more than 2 years overseas and I'm bringing it back under the private import scheme. Does the same strict rules apply to private imports? Nothing's original in my car as you can see from the pic. Seats, cams, turbos, fuel sys, fuel computer, intercooler, piping, you name it, I've changed it. Don't tell me I've to remove everything to bring her in!!!

How about cars that are more than 15 years old? I've got a 89 32GTR that I also intend to bring back probably the year after next. This one has a pair of TD05s in it and a 2.8 litre block so returning it to stock is totally out of the question.

Nice to see a nice white Supra -- ill lend you my seats but there are electric and a pain to remove but if you want to swap wheels for a couple of hours let me know mine are chrome alloys 17" 245 or try and get hold of James on the supra forums as he uses a standard set at the drags

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
