Tokyo For Autosalon 2008? Wanna Go?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I work for Flight Centre & I am considering sending a group of car enthusiasts to Japan for the Tokyo Auto Salon in January.

Flights, Accommodation, Rail Passes and a day to Tokyo Disney were on the cards for the package.

I was just wanting to get some interest as to how many liner enthusiasts might like to come along.

Let me know on the forum if anyone is interested or if you have any questions!!

We would look at entry into the Autosalon a little closer to the date but i just wanna get some ideas to see if its worth persuing.

Genuine only please...don't waste my time! >_<:D

Cheers

Michelle

Well at this stage its all going to depend on numbers. I will get a costing today of how much it will cost normally for this package then when more interest arises, I can get some rough numbers together for the group discount bookings. I will give u the price of the package today without the group discount....Stay tuned >_<

Well, my case is a little different but I'm doing some shopping around at the moment for approximate quotes so maybe you can help;

I am planning a trip to Tokyo with a stopover of approx 5 days in Hong Kong on return, next January. Leaving approx ~Jan 10th so I can arrive in time for the Tokyo Auto Salon. Stay in Japan will be 1 month (I will be renting an apartment there for 1 month most likely through Sakura House) then as mentioned 5 days stop over in HK.

If you feel like you can help me out with a quote then shoot me a PM and I'll give you the full details.

Regards,

Ryan

At this stage the package price for 1 person would be about $3450.00 which includes everything mentioned plus travel insurance & taxes. I am estimating a few hundred dollars per person as a saving with a large group booking.

So this is flights, taxes, insurance, accommodation, rail pass + 1 day Toyko Disney

You don't need a rail pass if you are only going to be in Tokyo/Chiba seeing the Autosalon and Disney. Waste of 400odd bux.

I've had a lot of people suggest the 5 day rail pass as they didn't want to go to the Autosalon for the entire duration. Plus that would be their return airport transfers as well as if they wanted to do other things which required public transport over that period of time. Im able to get it for cheaper than $400. It was just something that was suggested to me, doesn't necessarily have to be in there if people don't want it.

It's a $30 trip from the airport into Tokyo.

If people were planning on heading down to Kyoto/Osaka/Hiroshima way it would be worth it though.

That price was based on a 6 night stay. It can be changed. But I wouldnt want too many less than that. Its just not worth that amount of money for anything less. I figured if im gunna go, I might as well make it decent!

I'll pass.

I usually pay around ~$3400 including flights, 2 weeks accomodation, rail passes and travel insurance.

willo youd be better booking a ryokan yourself seperately id imagine. They are a whole different `japanese experience` compared to a normal hotel

which way are you going? narita airport-> keseifunabashi-> funabashi-> tokyo station = 1,100円(central tokyoish), 67.4km

however if you wanna take the skyliner to ueno and then the yamanote line.. its gonna be a bit more, but a lot easier

ill go to bed now :)

yeah I've tried taxi (cost a few hundred $$), regular train (took ages costs around $10), limosine bus (not the fastest, but by far the easiest cost around $30) and the NEX (fastest way, but not the absolute easiest, cost around $20).

so I'd say from narita to wherever you are going in tokyo get the NEX. on the way home with all the luggage and crap you are carrying take the limo bus as it's the easiest option.

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
