my car copped 6 grand worth from hitting the famed roo and it was barely noticable and only barely got put off the road

so a writeoff for a 34 would be what, 15?

I'm guessing around that, it would be value - whatever they felt they could get for it at auction

Well, thought i might put in an update.

Pulled off the front bar today and the fmic is a write off, it has twisted the core, so time to spend more money again (yay). Have managed to pick up a gtr bar for 200 and a bonnet for 130 so from my end she should be back on the road sooner than i thought :PBJ:

gah, thats gotta go close to being a write off seeing what skylines are worth these days

Pffffft

I paniced a lot from hearing stuff like this on the silvia forums..

I had a 180sx at the time and it got rear ended..

The quotes were around 9,000 to repair it.. my car i bought for 12,000.

Their "GENERAL" rule of thumb is if its more then 50% ( aami anyway) it CAN be a write off.

I showed them receipts for work done to it ( FMIC//exhaust blah blah) and it came up to around 17,000. ( which is still more then 50% damage)

They asked me what i wanted to do and i said repair.. i asked for the cheque and i repaired it myself.

Cost me 5,000 to repair and i got lots of funky stuff done too ( thank goodnes for quoting goons that dont know where to get prices for parts from)

Lots of heartache though..

I had the car for 1 month ( 3 weeks of that was doing the mods in the shop)

Raniny afternoon... i brake to the corner which was 100m from home... big truck didnt stop..

*POW*

I wasnt speeding, the light was red so i was slowing down..

Good thing though was the fact that the dude knew he was in the wrong and was very calm about it and got it resolved within 20 minutes of it happening.. " i just couldnt stop"

So a bad situation become good in the end.

Yours damage doesnt look like anywhere near the problems i had..

Just check under the car as well.. see that the suspension is ok and what not..

I was bloody lucky too since all my damage was pure cosmetic.. ( before i went ahead and gave it to AAMI i gave it to my mechanic and asked him if its worth repairing )

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
