I didn't realise I should have put this thread here, so now it is.

Hi all, I'm 21 and got my license a couple of months ago, and have recently come into a situation where I'm able to buy an extremely good condition R33 GTS-T from a colleague. However I'm also aware of the ridiculous restriction laws on P-platers.

I don't want to wait 3 years while kids are driving around in more powerful Aussie 6-cylinders. How often are you, as a Skyline driver, targeted by the police? How risky do you think this idea is?

Had my r33 for 2 years...on my red P's now....havnt been pulled over before...all cops do is look at the car

i guess if u drive sensibly like no burnouts, going ppl at lights or drifting u should be ok

i got done in an RBT and the cops treat u like shit...just depends on the cop

dont risk it, if a cop pulls you over and can see your conditions on your licence. he'll ask to rev your car and when he does, the bov will go off and he'll know it's a turbo.. Instant loss of licence for a year and car gets impounded.

i was thinking the same thing.

but i heard that ur car gets impounded n shit if ur caught wif a prohibited vehicle.

resorted myself to an NA 34 and will upgrade to turbo once im off Ps.

still pull in d chickies tho

You will most likely get pulled over... I have a nice collection of those RBT tubes at home and in my car.

And all of the cops assume that it's a turbo anyway, one guy wouldn't believe me when I kept saying it was a non-turbo.

Then again if you're driving it around areas that aren't too heavy on cops or really want to do it.. Just scratch off the restrictions on the back of your license lol..

is there really a point in risking it?

Ok, you can drive a turbo car for say..1 week,1 month, 1 yeatr before you get caught, but then Goooone!

and it will happen. thats the law, gotta go by it.

plenty of non turbo skylines out there (which still get da chickz y0 apparantly...)

Don't do it...too risky. You guys drive the Skyline for the cheeks? I drive it for myself. When I am in this car and l listen some reggae I feel at least 20 years younger.....huh that will do me. However when I see a cop car...I still feel dizzy, prefer not to be pulled over.

Lucky so far I guess but i drive the "bullet" just once or twice a week.

Wouldn't recommend it on restricted license.

People seem to have mixed attitudes & experiences with the po-po  ( not forgetting all the stories here are mostly one sided :( )

I'm on my green's with a big magnetic p-plate on the back. I haven't been pulled over so far (touch wood, I'm no granny driver either) & the coppers mostly just leave me alone. Although I've been death stared at once by a copper when driving past an RBT, but just let me through.

Back when I had my R33 the only time I was pulled over was my own fault (doing 140+ on the m4) I learned from my mistake & copped the fine & suspension, I'm just lucky I didn't lose my license before the restrictions came in  .

The law is the law, deal with it and buy a different car.

If you ignore the restriction, you will be driving illegally and you will be uninsured.

Personally, I dont like the idea of a young driver whos only had his provisional license for 2 months getting behind the wheel of a high powered import with no experience and no insurance.

I agree with Nick.

also, that'd be like driving around with no license at all. it's no fun, trust me. i just got off a 6 month suspension and it seriously sux when all u can think about is if that's a cop behind u or not (and i was in a corolla)

remember this, u get pulled over even ONCE and asked for ur license, you're f**ked.

Dont do it.

p plates are to a cop like truffles are to a pig

Probably 'coz nearly every P plater they see is driving like they're trying to outrun satan. Like most the P platers I see around the place.

I've had my licence for 11 months.

(Red P's)

Been pulled over 10 times. Never fined. Never been done for speeding/burnouts etc.

Always a "random" breath test. I've had to lift my bonnet 8 times.

Never been asked to rev the car, or anything like that. The cops physically look for a front mount, turbo, blow off valve etc.

I have been asked a few times if my oil breather is a blow off valve, and once if my pod filter (which is enclosed) is a blow off "thingy".

Cops have gotta do a job, and when they see that red P plate they will definately do it.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
    • Bloody apprentices! 🙄
    • Not sure yet.  Was considering speedtek because it was rated to 800hp, but when I did some research about him I don't think I will go for that🤣 So maybe giken gear set, but I'm afraid it won't be strong enough🙄
