hey guys

just thought would show u how i modified my air box. the way i have it is legal in the eyes of the EPA and cops can go jam it basically.

you can verify it with EPA before doing this mod if u dont believe me. it allows you to run your standard air box with additional air holes around it and make epa happy when you have a FMIC mounted.

heres the pics of the job i done on mine

forgot to mention, doing this mod with the holes around the air box still allows you to have the "pod filter" noise when at boost, so every1 thinks your running a pod.

let me know what you think guys

you could cut the bottom out on the box they wouldnt see that and hot air wouldnt be such a drama as its behind the headlight where cold air would come thru

air is drawn into the engine from the bottom half of the box, so that wouldnt work

its a standard air box, the cuts on top and side are just a look thing.

i didnt melt the snorkel either. its been cut and a heat resistent sealant that i get from work is applied over the side, top and bottom, with gaffa tape along the cut as a base, then is removed when the sealant is dry or its still ok to leave it in.

no it isnt defectable, yes its a mod to air intake but doesnt come under the same category mod as a pod filter. doesnt come under a defect. if anything they photo it and ask epa if its classed as a mod. NOT DEFECTABLE - its an EPA ISSUE, NOTHING TO DO WITH RWC

pods arent illegal in vic if u are only running a standard side mount cooler, but coz i run a front mount, a pod in my case a) is illegal to have under epa regs and b) its classed as a second air inake mod. you cant have 2 intake mods.

A pod filter, unboxed on any engine is deemed an offence against the epa for the following given reasons by the EPA and Police:

1: Noise Pollution

2: Fume releases

3: Fire hazard

That's on an N/A vehicle, a supercharged vehicle, a turbocharged vehicle, a diesel, a car with a FMIC, no IC, or a SMIC.

Also, I've had a temp prob running before behind those headlights and measured air temps up above 40degrees celcius. That's a touch hot for my liking personally.

I think you have EPA and Vicroads mixed up mate.

EPA maysay your airbox mod is legal on their part, but your modification can STILL recieve a defect mate.

You can still get a defect for a fully ADR compliant and engineered vehicle. This has happened with my old modified and engieered ute.

Also that pod in a box. its still an induction mod. So with an FMIC it is still illegal.

yeh i know bout pod and front mount, but a friend of mine is a cop and hes seen it, and from a police side of things, that is ok coz you really havent changed the intake just minipulated what you have to keep it legal. thats what he has said to me.

im not fussed, epa = pass, cops = pass vic roads dont see the car and if they have a problem with it i have a second lid that isnt cut for insurance

yeh, but if ur running the standard front mount that the GTR's run with pods it isnt, its only defectable if u change the standard cooler for an aftermarket cooler

god I dunno how many times this comes up.

1 intake mod rule in vic. This means 1 intake mod...not two or 1.5

So technically u have modified ur intake. No FMIC for u however I agree this one is borderline as its the stock box. If I was you I would have just cut a hole in ur stock intake duct around the IC pipes...I have done this and u cant see the hole on the inside where i have heat reflective material and its sealed.

I dont like the holes on the outside as it sucks up hot air. If u connected that to a new duct i would lke it.

But this will help u when running some bigger numbers and you intake pipe wont collapse....then if u can run those numbers u have a new turbo anyway which is another mods and hence...u now have 3 intake mods.

btw the pod noise its ghey...why would u want to impress ppl with that? I hate it...I like the stealth stock box spool noise..

    • I thought Australia got rid of the "drag dodgy fuel up to 91 RON with ethanol", which is why all E10 advertise as "up to 94 RON" ? Anyway I put E10/91 in the missus' Mazda because she empties the tank weekly, when all my cars get 98RON. tl;dr - turbo - 98 RON, if you can't afford that, sell it and get a commuter car (or tune your car for 91, which no one does).
    • Yeah i found that alot of parts can be wrong or "very" hard to get the real right one. I already bought some brakes years ago on me "old" GT calipers and they were wrong too 😄  I told them too. Even send them pictures...but they said "EBC catalogue has them on my car... So i dont know what their answer will be. I call monday them and let them know that they are really not on my car. If they were they would be already on a car...
    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
