How Safe Is Buying Off Of Skylines Aus?

G'day Cliff, welcome to SAU.

It is as safe as anywhere else (eBay etc.). There are trader ratings same as eBay feedback and some guys have a straigh shooters list in their sig for deals they have done that went well.

I've only had one annoying deal (in nearly 50 over 3 years), and it was because Aus Post stuffed up.

If you use registered post you know the goods were mailed. If you don't use registered post (heck it's only $2.50) then you are rolling the dice. 99% of the guys and girls here are excellent value and will take good care of their skyline brethren. If you're not sure, pay higher prices from a store. Simple as that! :D

Oh yeah, dude you'll have an easier time here if you spell words properly. The SMS type is really annoying and people will generally ignore your posts when u type sumfin lik dis.

yeah i shop on ebay all the time so should be all good hear then.

yeh always registered post. thats the way to go.and then wat do you do if you find out that they never posted the item??

Pretty good as long as you keep your wits about you (like most places)

The car I bought off here was advertised as having 220rwkw and ended up having around 160 with a bit of extra tuning (started at 145), but most everything else about it has been good like he said (great condition, reliable etc)

I think I just happen to be a sucker :blink:

bought a fair bit of stuff of here before and sold a bit too, before trader tags were on, never had a problem, just need to sus the person out get all the facts check their history of post if you want, or organise COD.

Look at their trader rating and comments. Check if they are actually SAU members or long time forum members [not that others are bad, just unknown]. I've had no problems and hopefully haven't given any. If I ever did I'd give back the money for the goods straight away.

PS Don't trust them Mods though, they are all very suss???? No just kidding, Moderators are an excellent example of who you could trust [this was a paid comment]..........lol

I've bought and sold on here for a while and have had good experiences so far. Few tips:

1. Try and buy local if you can so you can pick up and inspect b4 you hand cash over

2. Failing that if you need to purchase from interstate, check the users background, things like how long have they been a member, trader ratings, check out their posts under user options, see if they are good mates with longstanding members or have attended public meets etc...

3. Phone the seller, ask questions, possibly chat via msn as well so you get a feel whether the buyer is genuine or not

4. Ask for pics

5. Be wary of newbies that have signed up the same day with 1 post to their name trying to flog cheap parts off

6. Rely on your gut instinct, if its too good to be true it normally is.

I actually had a really good experience few weeks back, actually persuaded the seller to send me the items before payment was made due to suspect circumstances. All worked out well in the end :wave:

I live in a backwards redneck town and the aftermarket parts shops and car yards we have are way over priced, so really I have no choice but to buy off the internet. This is a very trust worthy forum and I have personally bought and sold heaps of stuff off of hear no probs. However there are totally shyte forums that I'd never trust ie. Boost cruising, NS.com

I've bought two gearknobs from SAU group buys. One gearknob never showed up - probably Australia Post's fault but the guy who organised the group buy failed to ensure the items were correctly posted on two occasions. The other gearknob was faulty and this wasn't mentioned in the original description. I ended up getting the gearknob from Greenline. 3rd time lucky. Haven't bought anything else from SAU but that doesn't mean I won't.

      Hi guys, I’m new to the GTR scene. Picked up an R33 GTR earlier this year that needs a lot of love. I’ve been going through the hot side, changing all the gaskets and while it was all off I managed to score a set of -9s. It still had the stock ceramics so I was pretty happy to get the 2860s.  I live in a small country in the pacific with 0 performance car scene. No dyno’s no performance parts, let alone stock parts for a skyline. I order everything from Australia and do it myself. This means I’ll be running the stock ECU. Maybe down the track I’ll get an aftermarket set up and do a remote tune.  Will the car run -9s on stock tune safely?  I have a very heavy foot so I really hope so 😂   thanks guys

      I'm not sure if it will bolt up, but.... I'm reasonably sure that the ID of the runners is somewhat smaller on the NAs. So it probably wouldn't be a good match at the flange where the top and bottom meet. So that would be a reason to not do it. And the skinny runners would be the bit you're keeping, which would be a reason to no do it. You'd want the big runners if you were doing any work to swap stuff. Why not just use what you've got, like nearly everyone else who has +T'd an NA? You don't need or want the TCS throttle or other stuff that is specifically DET inlet/crossover.

      Makes sense. For actuators, if the pressure itself isn't adjustable, that would mean I'd need to think about 2 different actuators with 2 different pressures on paper in order for them to work at the same time if the turbos behave differently. So measure the difference in psi needed to move both, and then get an actuator to match that difference. Assuming I cant get rid of it by adjusting the arms.  You're exactly right, never happens in gear 1 or 2. I can occasionally get it in gear 3 if going uphill but its very small. Only ever in 4 and 5. Seems kind of backwards that one of the points of VCAM is faster spool but if it introduces shuffle then it actually slows spool down.
