I've done a lot of reading and searching, but i'm trying to find a good turbo upgrade that doesn't require any supporting mods that most of the turbos mentioned use to get the most out of them.

One of my stock turbos has given up. So i need to upgrade, but don't want excessive lag. Any ideas? GT2860R? I'm just not sure what version.

cheers,

andrew

Well what constitutes "worth the effort"?

Stock turbos will run into the low 300rwhp quite happily.

There is not a huge amount of room between that & the point where your AFM's & fuel system run out of puff.

As for cam gears. There is a thread somewhere where bear baron has posted a dyno sheet of the before/after results. Most useful. The cam gears that is.

I'm wondering the same thing.

What would you say the minimum supporting mods would be for say a GT2860R to make it worth the effort?

Do you need computers / cam gears etc etc.

yes.

Generally Fuel pump

ECU, Cam gear, full exhaust, decent clutch... they are all a must.

Injectors if you want a little bit more out of it as your likley to max out the stockers before you max the turbos.

Cheers

I went the 2860R-5s, Great mod. As above really... ECU, Low restriction exhaust-inc, dumps and front pipe, free flowing cat and cam gears. Then the next spend would be turbos, fuel pump and the injectors ...unless you want to plonk down the coin all in one go. Then 32R suspension GB then some reliable gauges then wheels then ...... :ermm:

If you don't want/have any support mods then the smallest of the three version is the one for you.

But mis_quoted I believe.

GT2850R turbo's come in 4 Versions.

N1,SS,-5(2530),-10(GT-RS).

Buy either the N1, or SS.....same size housing as the stock unit no EPA probs.

Cheers

    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
