Picked up shanef this morning and we wandered out to gatton to watch the second day of the street sprints. A very well attended and well organised event by all accounts. what it really bought home to me tho was just how effective a weapon the gtr really is. The colour printed programme they handed out boldly boasted the best ever time for this circuit as 39 seconds. We were fortunate to witness a 32 gtr smash the shit out of that mark with a blistering 36 second lap time. Think about that. 3 full seconds on a mid 30 second track. That isnt a beating, That is an absolute and total mauling. And what a car it is. the straightest cleanest 32 i have ever seen with the most detailed engine bay and mods you could wish for.

Is it any wonder the rear wheelers hate them so much. Even the evos and lancers were days away from the times the gtr was posting. The gtr deserves all the kudos and respect that those in the know bestow upon it and then some. GTR FTW

Could'nt have said it any better myself Noel. Not that I am biased or anything!!!

are these sprints open to anyone?

how'd you find out about it noel? any details or info?

Its real secret squirrel stuff eug. The only way i found out was andy (bunta) saw it on a billboard near gatton and he Anna and Shane went yesterday. I looked shane up this morning and he said it was on again today so we meandered out for a looksee. Glad we did.

further to that to enter u need a cams l2s licence and what ever else that goes along with it.

it looked to be a really nice fun course, maybe next year i'll enter

39sec isn't the best ever time, it is a time to aim for so you can be part of the exclusive 39sec club.

There have been numerous EVO / WRXes that have entered the 39 second club by doing 38.xxx. There are also numerous rwd cars that are in the 39 second club.

However the GTR you are talking about (Mark Berry and Russell Newman) is a very quick car and much respect to it.

EUG: To compete You need a Level 2 speed license and a the usual cams car mod stuff. It is a once a year event, It is usually around this time each year.

That GTR had about the value of that blue EVO in mods! Given a similar level of modding their performance would be the same

There were cars there that had as much or more coin poured in to them than the gtr too. They couldnt blow wind up its arse either.

If Derek Pingle was still allowed to enter his chev from a few years ago there would have been problems  With the brakes alone on that GTR being somewhere in the region of 10k I doubt there was many cars with more money spent on them!

Moot point Andy. If my aunty had balls she would be my uncle. The gtr was there and blew everything else in to the weeds.

hmmm... these kinds of events interest me far more than the regular drag/drift events.

qld certainly does lack a fair bit of advertisement in this area. certainly something nsw and vic are very into.

motorkhanas, hill climbs, sprints, etc...

All Im saying is don't make it out do be what it isnt...that time nowhere near the record I think it is about 3 seconds faster than that . Im not having a go at you (As seems to be the style around here at the moment) just saying is all as the first post was misleading

It is an awesome event (sadly alot of the good cars were missing this year) but I am working in Gatton and didnt even get enough notice to get ready in time! Luckily now I know that a guy at my work is one of the organisers so next year I will be putting up a thread for entrants nice and early

at no stage did i think you were. but there were cars there with far more bucks in them than the gtr. the hdt a9x for eg. still a 6/700 hp job today and as purpose built as any tintop can be. Ferarri was another.

Yes my first post was misleading but by accident only. i misread the blurb. But that gtr smoked it. I would give my left one to see a quicker run around that track. I am guessing it would have to be a well sorted awd porsche or similar to do it.

sweet... would be good to get SAu QLD back into cams licensing...

i'm sure another ex-gtr owner would definately be keen.

We wont be getting back into Cams licensing....I personally will just join SAU NSW to get my licence

Pardon my ignorance andy but why would you join the nsw boys to get your license, Is it a prerequisite that you belong to a motoring org before they will issue said license??

Yeah mate you need to be a member of a Cams affiliated club to have a CAMS licence

Here is an interesting site people http://www.short-circuit-motor-racing.com.au/scmsa_news.htm seems there is a few events like this within a couple of hours of Brisbane

    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
