i usually drive from sydney up to brisbane , ever few months ... 10.5 is my shortest time .

few tips

- take coffee or some ice coffee if your driving at night like i do

- heaps of music

- lollies - chew chew chew - really does help ( numerous times iv felt like i was gonna fall asleep)

your car should be fine regardless of how its running now - unless you have major problems which your worried about . be sure to check all your liquid levels , etc ....

safe trip - cheers

I'm might be driving down from Brisbane to Melbourne in July. This thread is really useful! But I'm wondering, is it easy to obtain 98 octane fuel along the way?

Occasionally while driving along the highway, I see big pieces of tyres lying on the road as well. What would cause such things to happen?

You will be fine for 98 Fuel along that route if you plan your distances ! Its when you go inland It gets messy for fuel and maintenance if something goes wrong.

The big bits of Rubber you mention are from truck Re-cap blow outs. The trukie should try to collect most of it after it blows but that can also be dangerous traffic wise depending on where the trye blows.

also get roadside assistance in your state RACQ ,NRMA etc ... its to cheap not to have

Okay, thanks! I won't be packing any octane booster then ^_^

See if you can beat aphids 12 hours! :)

I did melbourne to sydney and back. On way up 10hours with 2 stops and copper on my ass for 150km (90km/h). Way back 18hours with atleast 6 stops and 2 sleeps . Both trips were within 3 days and i was pissed day between.

Live in the Territory and regularly do a 400km return trip to work in my32GTR sometimes 600 if I have to go to the next main town If your cars in good nick should have no drama's, Other than fuel and radar gun/revenue raisers. Usually use about a tank full of petrol but have on one occasion playing with a supercharged CLK Merc on the highway, before they introduced speed limits, used over half a tank for the first 100km's playing!! Was fun and he couldn't believe he couldn't keep up.

Drive like its a loaded to the roof car and u should be fine and not cost the earth in fuel:)

hehe nice work!! :P

I've done 3 driving trips Adelaide to Brisbane and back in a Nissan Import, 2 of those trips were in a Turbocharged car (silvia 2L turbo, and more recently my S2 Stagea).

The stagea is modified as in my sig, ~160awkw and it ran beautifully all the way.

The only issue I had was with 96 octane premium fuel between adelaide and parkes, but between parkes and brisbane you can go the whole way on bp ultimate 98. With the 96 octane fuel it was fine except for one time when I went to overtake it pinged a bit when it hit full boost so I had to take it a bit easier after that. Cruising along at and up to 110 was no problem at all though so people should be ok with 96 octane fuel but just dont push it too hard. :(

My wife & I do the trip in 1.5 days (stopping overnight at a motel), sharing the drive. Its usually about 22-23 hours total driving time and thats about 15-16 hours on the first day and only about 6-7 hours on the second day. We've only got the stock SMIC (same as r34 one) and the car had no overheating issues or anything.

So like others have said, you should have nothing to worry about. Just make sure your car is in good running condition and all should be fine. :)

    • Hi guys, I’m new to the GTR scene. Picked up an R33 GTR earlier this year that needs a lot of love. I’ve been going through the hot side, changing all the gaskets and while it was all off I managed to score a set of -9s. It still had the stock ceramics so I was pretty happy to get the 2860s.  I live in a small country in the pacific with 0 performance car scene. No dyno’s no performance parts, let alone stock parts for a skyline. I order everything from Australia and do it myself. This means I’ll be running the stock ECU. Maybe down the track I’ll get an aftermarket set up and do a remote tune.  Will the car run -9s on stock tune safely?  I have a very heavy foot so I really hope so 😂   thanks guys
    • perfect, no rush to address the leaking bush then, it's not doing much/anything
    • I'm not sure if it will bolt up, but.... I'm reasonably sure that the ID of the runners is somewhat smaller on the NAs. So it probably wouldn't be a good match at the flange where the top and bottom meet. So that would be a reason to not do it. And the skinny runners would be the bit you're keeping, which would be a reason to no do it. You'd want the big runners if you were doing any work to swap stuff. Why not just use what you've got, like nearly everyone else who has +T'd an NA? You don't need or want the TCS throttle or other stuff that is specifically DET inlet/crossover.
    • lol already been put in temporarily 3 years ago
    • Makes sense. For actuators, if the pressure itself isn't adjustable, that would mean I'd need to think about 2 different actuators with 2 different pressures on paper in order for them to work at the same time if the turbos behave differently. So measure the difference in psi needed to move both, and then get an actuator to match that difference. Assuming I cant get rid of it by adjusting the arms.  You're exactly right, never happens in gear 1 or 2. I can occasionally get it in gear 3 if going uphill but its very small. Only ever in 4 and 5. Seems kind of backwards that one of the points of VCAM is faster spool but if it introduces shuffle then it actually slows spool down.
