mitchy, good to hear you turned out ok after such a horrid event.

f**king speed the commodore was carrying is troubling..

stupid underbraked stocker barges

methinks.... BMW M3. ftw :( or buy like 3 or 5 mitsubishi galant vr4 imports.. they are sooo cheap.. bwaahahaha

So what happens in this situation? Did you manage to drive the car back to your house or did the towie tow it back.

I have always tried to figure out how towies work as i think they get paid extra $$ for towing it to panel beaters and I was under the impression that if the police come it has to go straight to a panel beater? can anyone confirm that?

If it is at your house and no one has taken records of whats damaged etc then does anyone know how far you can go in removing parts?

I dont want any parts as SLY is lovely just the way she is, however should unfortunately this happen to any of us this could be of interest to us all to make a somewhat smarter move out of an unfortunate incident.

Mitchy, Kylie - My condolences to both of you.

OK so far we know that if you're insured, the towie wants no money from you on the day. And also if it isn't your fault, you will not pay a cent.

We also know now that if the person at fault is insured, you claim against thier insurance, NOT YOURS...

Done this way, you keep your no claim bonus, you do not pay any excess and no record of claiming.

If you claim on your own insurance you have to pay your excess up front, you loose your no claim bonus BUT will be reimbursed once its all been sorted and you will not be out of pocket.

The Towie slip hasn't got a price or fee on it, seems the towie forgot to fill that bit out :( I guess Mitchy will have to ring him up and get him to put down the other guys insurance policy number so Mitchy's insurance doesnt' get a bill :)

The assessor is coming out here, so you don't 'have' to have the car towed to a repairer straight away. We weren't sure what to do at the scene. The guy at fault rang mobitow and 3 trucks rocked up. I rang Gerrin, but his mate was 30mins away, so cancelled him and went with the first towie on the scene. (Keep in mind, Mitchy's rear tyre had been popped by the twisted metal and was stuck on the road, blocking off one lane) I doubt we could of pushed her off the road..

Not sure what you are allowed to remove, hence why we aren't touching her at the moment.

Mitchy managed to get the boot open to removed some clothes and shoes... I'm sure you're allowed to removed personal items.

And thats where we are up to, just waiting for the assessor to come out..

Who's your insurer, seems kinda dodge to get excess from you if you're not at fault and have the guy details. It's their job to track them down and sue them for the $$.

I had a similar thing happen but they guy had no insurance.

Just Cars has never asked for excess in any form in a no fault incident.

most insurance companies will charge the excess , but some will waive it if they think the re-claim to the at fault party has a good chance of success (ie he has admitted fault , his insurance company has said they will pay)

a guy at work smashed the side of my old gtr in the car park and hbf waived the excess and just claimed strait to his company but thats not always the case

a unemployed bogan in a dodgy old commodore they might not be so confident in getting money immedietly

Mitch won't have to pay anything towards insurance or medical costs if this guy is contactable & does have insurance. If he has no insurance, then he can get sued by either Mitch himself or Just Cars (probably JCI cos they deal with it, but he might have to for medical). If his details aren't correct & he can't be found, then Mitch will have to claim it on insurance, pay excess & have it recorded as a claim. Wasn't the greatest idea to let this guy drive home before the police came out to make sure his details were correct & he wasn't drinking, because that also affects his insurance.

Mitchy

Really sorry to hear about the pride and joy (sorry K).

I guess you're not chasing the PFC handcontroller any more.

If you are thinking about a nice R33 GTR drop me a PM as one of the guys I work with is looking at moving on his stock '98 at a pretty fair price.

    • Hi all,  I am in the market for an R200 longnose diff out of a Z31 300ZX, or S12 RSX, DR30 skyline, or similar, in a 3.9 ratio.  Preferably a late model one with the M12 crownwheel bolts.  The only easy to find advert for one of these was my ad back in 2007 when I sold it on this forum.  I sold the diff as I had sold the car it goes to, but as it turns out, after 18 years I got the car back late last year, so now I'm looking for the diff !  If anyone knows where to find a longnose R200 LSD with the M12 crownwheel bolts, drop me a line at [email protected] - Bonus paid if soomeone comes up with the original diff (stranger things have happened !).  Cheers   Ben D
    • Hi everyone, I used to post here a bit from 2004-2013, when I owned various Nissans, in particular my S12 RSX gazelle, which was sold in 2007.  As luck would have it, after an 18 year hiatus, the car found its way back to me last year, and over the past 11 months I have had the pleasure of restoring it with my kids.  One thing that I am after in particular is a 3.9 ratio R200 LSD for it.  I actually sold the one out of the car here back in 2007 , and it would be incredible if I could track down who I sold it to, so I can see how they have progressed over the years (and to be honest, to see whether I can get the diff back !).  Anyways, hi all and let me know "where are the R200 Longnose diffs all at these days ?  Cheers Ben D
    • Arms will be the same as the G35 or 350Z, but as above, there was a change in the lower control arm where it connects to the ball joint.  That said, you can remove the ball joint cone from your old ball joints and fit them to the new ball joints.  To be honest, I didn't think the ball joints themselves were different. The main ball joint is a bit awkward to replace, you really need to remove the steering knuckle to press out the old one.  Some people have used tools to remove it in place, but it just seemed too hard to get to. If you are going to press out/in that ball joint, then you may as well just replace the bushings in the LCA and the compression rod.  You can buy the compression rod bushing from Nissan, but the LCA bushes, you will need to go aftermarket. Much cheaper than buying the whole arm.
    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
