i am going to buy a rb26 in a month or so and i am figuring out what i need to get the engine refresh. I am not going to run big horse power so i'll stick with oem internals. here is my plan for the rebuild.

N1 piston

N1 oil pump

N1 water pump

oem gasket kit

oem main bearings

oem con rod bearings

R33 crank (if i couldnt find a jun collar)

I will be running stock turbo and stock boost but i will be doing some upgrade soon. I am looking around 400whp after i get new turbos and all the supporting fuel mods. Here is the question i have.

What is the different between the N1 and stock piston?

Will this set up be able to withstand 400whp reliably? I am using this as a track/drift/autox car, will it stand my abuse??

is there anything i will need to add or remove??

i just want to confirm before actually going to purchase these parts, thanks for all the help.

Make sure you use good rod bolts

Change the stock turbos then and there

Read the OIL control thread (its in the sticky guide)

Might aswell use forged pistons for the price you pay for N1.

Dont need baffles though, no-one else does

haha, i got a gd deal on those N1 piston. 700USD shipped with rings and pin. don't think i can get a set of forged of that price. so i will need a tomei head restrictor for it? so a gd set of rod bolts?? do i need new head studs too?? sry i am new to this engine rebuilding thing. Also i am wondering do i order standard size bearings or i need to get the little wax thing and figure out the cleareance?? i got very confuse over this because someoen told me standard size is ok. which one is true?? thanks

$700 USD it quite expensive for stock pistons. I would have thought more like $400-$500 USD.

oh, really? is n1 piston better than stokc? whts the different?? also can anyone direct me to the sticky forum?? i have search the whole faq and found nothing.

im in the process of doing a simalar build, what would be a good choice of turbo(twin), im also not a horse power hero, just a bit more for my purpose, track and the mountain passes..

would sticking to the same stock turbos BUT changing the ceramic wheels to steel be a good move....

I don't know of any difference between N1 piston or standard piston. I would say they are the same thing. but can't tell for sure. maybe ask the dude selling you this pistons to explain the differences? either way, N1/stock/whatever $700USD is not very cheap for a set of OEM cast pistons.

to save money you could also not run n1 pumps, just normal 33 gtr pumps would suffice i reckon.

the money u've saved on not using n1 pumps, get some acl race series bearings (158 for mains & big end)

ARP 2000 rod bolts

you dont 'need' headstuds or main studs, the normal ones would do i reckon.

well that's my ideas :P

cool. n1 pistons are cheap. about 80 each.

use sr20 bigend bearings from acl. (there identical,im not sure they have the 25/26 bearings on file) about 80 bucks for 16 shells.

use rb30 mains (acl) about 60 bucks (two sets, explained later)

the n1 piston uses better rings but is still prone to breaking. a friend told me a stock pistion can take about 3 seconds of detonation an n1 can take 4 hehe

use a 5 dollar oil restrictor (tomie)

use a genuin cambelt.(cheaper than aftermarket)

the gasket set is a bit pricy but un avoidable.

dont bother with a steel head gasket. (mines oem and pushing 450hp atw.)

one thing worth getting is a n1 harmonic balancer.

dont get arp studs. (unless your getting it line bored and torqueplate honed.)

use tomie rod bolts. (arp use the vg30 ones and there to short.)

set it up 2.5 thou on the mains and 1.6-1.8 thou on the bigends. use the groved block side maines on both sides of the crank. but you will have to get the girdle notched to suit the bearing retaining notch on the other side.

or you could not bother lol.

get the crank grub screwd so you can clean it properly.

T04GTR, thanks for the detail reply. it is very helpful. so now i come down to this

N1 piston rings

N1 pumps

tomei head restictor

tomei con rod bolt

acl sr20 big end bearings

scl rb30 main bearings

N1 harmonic balancer (how will this help in reliability wise???)

OEM Gasket kit

R33 crank (used)

Also, can you explain more regarding on fitting the bearings?? it gets kind of confusing.. :nyaanyaa::domokun:

Perhaps if anyone can send me a link of where you can get 80 bucks N1 piston?? I normally buy stuff on yahoo auction in japan, is there other source?

im in the process of doing a simalar build, what would be a good choice of turbo(twin), im also not a horse power hero, just a bit more for my purpose, track and the mountain passes..

would sticking to the same stock turbos BUT changing the ceramic wheels to steel be a good move....

I am thinking of getting either a R34 N1 turbos or HKS GT-SS. they are both good for around 350-400whp and have good responds.

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
