S15 Vs R34 Gtt Vs Wrx

Hey guys,

Name's Paul.

I have a query and i thought that i'd ask the nissan guys for some advice.

I have a MY05 WRX which i'm thinking of selling to get a S15 (Jap Spec) or a R34 GTT.

Is this crazy? Should i just keep the 05?

If i decide between the S15 and GTT, could you tell me which one would be quicker on a track and the twisties/touge?

And which car has better brakes etc etc... i want to know the pros and cons before i go out and do something stupid.

And one other thing.

Which car out of these 2 react better to mods?

ps. whats the difference between aus/jap-spec S15's apart from the gearbox and power? Is the aus delivered 5spd stronger than the 6spd?

Keep the WRX, spend some dosh on the suspension and tyres and go have some time attack fun. Its the new fad, i tried it and as soon as i get my GTR (currently driving a GTS) im getting into time attack, way way waaaaaaaaaay to much fun.

aus delivered s15 is 6 speed also . only difference is power and some trim

imo s15 seems to deliver better response to modifications , particularly minor ones as it is so light

r34 is a better overall car in terms of spec , is bigger, more comfortable , better suspension , better engine

both are pretty line ball though and a lot of it is personal preference

The WRX will be faster than the 2WD cars point to point, especially if you modify it. Some decent handling mods on a WRX (like the anti-lift kit) give them the handling to go with the grip. And there's plenty of knowledge of the engine out there, for squeezing power out of.

Between the S15 and R34 GTT, the Silvia is the lighter and more nimble of the two vehicles. The Skyline is the more stable. So it depends on how twisty the roads are. Narrow and tight, go the Silvia. On more sweeping roads, take the Skyline.

Mods-wise, both the RB25 and SR20 respond well to mods and the cars are so popular that there are plenty of handling mods out there.

The difference between the JDM and AuDM S15s have been covered ad nauseum and the list isn't short; a quick search in Google or a Silvia forum will give you the answers you want.

The Skyline is more of a grand tourer than the Silvia, so it will be a nicer car to sit in. It'll be more comfortable, better isolated, and feel more planted on the road. As a daily driven street car its a better option, but if every day is race day I'd probably buy a Silvia.

I think the general consensus was WRX Sti (for outright speed) then the R34 GTT then the S15.

Driving a mostly stock WRX compared to my mostly stock R33..

the R33 is alot more fun.. .. however the sound from a wrx is pure sex

wrx is for rallying...

but it is a variant of the Impreza...which is a family car.

Just pointing out that there was another thread comparing similar cars... thought you'd find it interesting.

But even still, only you can be the judge.. i cut my list down to those three cars, and ended up with a R34 GTT, almost got an S15.

mate get an s15. those things are the most fun to drive. turn in, put on the power and as you feel the tail sliding and try to compromise with steering and throttle is heaps fun.

my mates s15 is alot more of a sports car to drive as opposed to the skyline, has a completly different feel from sitting in the low down seats to the power delivery. My rb tends to be alot more responsive in low revs before 3.5krpm but the s15 comes on power so much harder it seems yet the skyline walks away at the end. both cars have very simular power. having driven both i am torn between the two. handling wise you can tell the s15 is definetly a drifters car, The skyline (coilovers) has excellent turn in, a little tail happy but holds on as far as it can. my opinion

Comparing stock form cars, the JDM S15 is lighter, slightly quicker and more fun than any single turbo RWD Skyline. The RB engines are more torquey, but the Skylines are a much heavier car. The R34GTT is around 160-170kg heavier than the S15.

Neither are practical everyday cars as the lack of back seat room is very obvious. Skylines are a bit more comfy so would be just that little bit nicer to drive. But you are after a car you can take down the track aswell. The S15 is slightly quicker and more nimble (chuckable), but the 6 speed box isn't the most desirable compared to the S14. I'd say the JDM S15 would edge out the 34 overall, but only just. So really, it's a choice of personal preference and which you think looks better. After driving a Rex, I'm sure you want something that looks a bit nicer.

i actually took a new 07 wrx for a test drive from a dealership and i honestly found it a bit underwhelming. I expected more power... i haven't driven a STi, but i'm sure that'd be significantly better. the price however is the real killer. looking at second hand cars, decent (newish) sti's cost around $30-35K. 33 GTRs are around the 27-33K range. Which one will win on a track/drag or just which one is more fun everyday? All depends what you prefer really.

as much as I cant stand the sound of an exhausted SR20 - in this situation Id take the S15.

as Ive got a daily driver, the s15 would be great for me, basically two seater (no room in back seat!) and would be a great starter for some good track days over my 33 - however Ive spent waaay too much on the 33 to let it go

I can't think of any inline-4 car engine I've liked the sound of. Silvia nuts love the sound of the SR, and those Toyota boys seem to ruin their pants over a wailing 4AGE, and don't even get me started on Honda fanboys, but for me its all noise and no note.
