Just make sure when fitting kit, if you get any leaks to breath them in.

FUNNY FUNNY STUFF NOS .........

I caught a wif when fitting friends kit, was on ground in tears laughin.

Bit of a sore head after, must be that 5% poison they aparently put in.

automotive Nitrous has a sulfur compound in it to discourage you from having a sniff.

I reckon it was the cookies you ate an hour before that had you laughing, cause a): you have to breath in a whole lot of nitrous to start laughing and B): the sulfur compound would have you throwing up well before the laughing began.

Hi Rev210, very interested to see what sort of results you get and how difficult the install is.. doing a little more reading (as there seems to be a lot of myths about NOS and what it does etc), and found this bit of info on a UK NOS specialist site:

Will nitrous work on turbo I supercharged, tuned or 2 stroke engines?

YES! it will, as nitrous does not know what kind of engine it is entering, and on these types of engines the power output on nitrous almost always exceeds the theoretical power input calculated on the amount of nitrous used.

Methinks you are going to see some serious horses out of this if it bumps you MORE than 100hp :P

Hmm.. pity its illegal for street cars.. but I assume its not illegal to have it hooked up as long as theres no bottle..

It's only "rumored" to have a poisonous gas. Only reason is to stop people inhaling it. Speak to the guys that fill them at BOC gas and they'll tell ya its 100% pure NOS, Medical grade.

Well thats what we got "told" anyhows.

I can tell you to(from personal experience), with your head in a boot and a leaky NOS bottle. You dont have to inhale much to start laughin. Its very effective stuff.

OH. I dont really recomend in-haling it either. Was having a joke :uh-huh:

yes paul thats what i was thinking, any sign of anything to do with nos, whether it be a little tee piece or braided hoses with the nos logo on it is illegal i was pretty sure of that it dun matter if you don't have the bottle or not, no matter what you still got evidence of using nos :D oooh yeah make sure you don't crash whilst using nos, any finidings by ur insurance company that there is nos in ur system and they'll tell you to phuck off :) just a lilttle reminder

Rev210 - so its all fitted in an working? Whats sort of additional thrust is it giving you, 'seat of the pants' style?

I have read that NOS provides very large torque increases... I am not a full bottle on the relationship between Hp and torque, but it must feel awesome when it kicks in, or is it more progressive than the movies will have you believe? :)

Hmm very interesting... I think I need to sort the rest of the system (FMIC, ECU, EBC) before I go down this path :(

The bottle is not filled and I have still a few electrical points to finish (the throttle mounted microswitch). The finishing will take place in a week or two.

Nitrous comes on when it's 'armed' and then the throttle is wide open, regardless of the revs it then adds 50HP all the way through the rev range. So if you are at 3000rpm for instance it will add 50HP. 50hp at such a low rpm is a massive increase in torque. 100HP even more so. With these kits you quite often find that on something like the RB25 the HP setting will result in 20% more power than the jet size (not always the case but quite often).

The other way is to use a MSD window that is set via 'PILLS' at certain rev limits. Once the 'armed' switch is made the NOS comes on at a per determined value eg 3500rpm and then shut down and 6300rpm. Mine also has a timer so that if it reaches a set time eg 2-3sec it will shut or whichever is first. This is also used with a set fuel map and retarded ignition map which is selected to retard the timing (stop detenation) when using NOS. The big killer when using NOS is that it creates and HUGE amount of HEAT.

The wet system helps in cooling by using fuel to cool the cylinders down.

That should make it as clear as mud heheh but I hope it helps.

No, never on the street, just tests on track and certain back roads, it is very scary stuff and Im always worried about the engine going bang. But it is very hard to do testing as there is not many places over east that will let you on the rollers to do set ups (it is an insurance thing). I get really worried about heat as once the NOS is 'hit' there is a raise of about 20c just in exhaust temps along. So unless Im know that 'something' is on I run around disconnected. Are you thinking about a set up paul??

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed 
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
