Ebisu Circuit Spring Drift Festival 3/5 - 4/5

Recommended Posts

Here we go again!

Another Golden Week has come and (almost) gone here in Japan, and that can only mean 1 thing. Its Spring! So to celebrate this little change of weather and to take advantage of the public holidays associated with Golden week a Spring Drift festival had to be held. And boy was it held, in the name of a 2 day drift party!

The venue again was Ebisu Circuit, about 3 hours from Tokyo, but for many others quite a bit further!

And did they come. Some honourable mentions were a few of the boys from Kansai (including Laurence) with a monster 21 hour drive?! Others from around Japan came too to join in in the fun! Being a 2 day event there was a lot of drifting, a lot of broken/smashed/bent panels/parts and to top it of there was also a BBQ of decent proportions too (^_^).

A great way to kick start the warm months here in Japan, and i'm already looking forward to the summer festival!

Anyway, onto the pics!

Saw this Serena?.. van on the way up there.. Interesting

It was nice to meet you and that other guy with the 180SX.

Where are the pics of my broken suspension :(

I was pretty busy/tried/annoyed with filming and a broken car so hopefully I wasn't too much of a jerk! :)

I wanted to say goodbye, but hopefully i will see you next time!

Laurence, i didn't manage to get a pic of your car actually.. It didn't look too nice though. Did you manage to get it home? Or what happened?

Yeh i wanted to catch up a little more, but we were having too much fun on the North circuit.. :)

Will have to catch up a little more next time (^_^)

I'll try and put up a few Vids on Youtube later too... If i get around to it.

See thats why L was supposed to invite me along... :)

Nice pics, shall we put this thread up in the diaries section?

Well the parts came from near Tokyo overnight but I was really busy filming video and various other junk so I didn't actually touch my car until the drifting was over. But yes, after fixing a broken wheel bearing that went on the way up, I was able to get a total of about ummm 20 laps in :) Then on the last lap on the touge course my rear knuckle thingo broke without having hit anything. It was obviously cracked previously and I should really just be glad that it didn't break on the South course which I had just been doing!

The car did right hand turns really well!

I have never seen this break before, but another friend with an S14 had exactly the same thing break in the same place!!!!

It would have been good to have someone to go up with, next time (if there is a next time) I think I will take a truck and another person (you). But unfortunately the car was so full of junk nobody else could fit in the car.

Nice pics :D Where's the pics of your (Poida's) drift :D

Actually I filmed him doing some driving in the FD which will be in a High Performance Imports DVD quite soon.

The traffic back home was a bit of a killer... between traffic jams, once a year drivers and bousouzoku it took a loooong time.

When did you take these photos mate?? And where was I?? They are all the mates I went with!! And that not so beautiful hachi was by far the fastest car in the whole place. Cost 400bux and destroyed everything, including a 32gtr and an evoIV that were going for speed not slide. Definitely had more to do with the arms attached to the steering wheel than the car itself though.

Big Brother was watching.......

And how good was it seeing the faces of all the safari park customers while driving between tracks. Man I scared some little kids, hahaha

LOL great photo!!! Fortunately 20 hours of driving means that even a racing seat is a comfy place to sleep sometimes.

Yeah, I got some very big doubletakes from some of the safari park customers.

I am sorry I was busy every time I was talking to you... I had just finished filming that Blue S14 and was hoping to finally catch up with you for a non stressed out chat and I couldn't find you. I was running towards the tunnel just as you went through. It was like some bad movie!!!

Anyway, I hope you had a good time! Nice to meet you as well!

No worries mate. The boys are keen to head to the summer festival as well, so might possibly see you there. Will definitely be at the autumn one. I snapped my right tie rod the first night, headed into town and managed to get another one but the second day I only got about an hour driving in. Seemed to be the Thursday and Friday of car horrors hey. What could break did. A mate fell asleep at the wheel heading out to get some lunch on the first day and totalled his car.

Stephen, was that the Hachi, that smacked into the guard rail near Ebisu Circuit?! Close to that big useless looking bridge?!

We drove past that and it looked terrible. Was he okay?!

Yep, spray can black hachi. I dunno about a bridge, but yea he banged a guard rail. Both of them weren't wearing seat belts but were fine.

One more hachi in heaven, one less on earth.

What do you do about tires? Surely you cant fit all of them in your car, so can you buy 2nd hand ones at the track? same goes for petrol.

Damn im so jealous of you all. Whats the date for the summer one? and if I had to drive a car from kobe to the track take about 20 hours?

Live it up boys, your living so many peoples dream.

EDIT*

How much to enter the 2 day event?

Surprising how many tyres fit in a car when you try. 5 sets of tyres fit in a 180. But my mate takes his 5 car carrier so I pack em all in that. Yea you can buy tyres there. There is also a fitting machine so you don't have to take rims.

Petty station just outside of the entrance.

Summer one is in Obon.

15,000yen. Well worth it.

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
