Hey People

As of wednesday, i would be a proud owner of a Skyline, just thought id post up about it an get some feedback on it. Its a 96 white series 2 R33 gtst , i bought it from SSV (Souther Special vehicles) in Oakleigh. here is a list of mods.

Front mount

pod filter

BOV

Exhaust

running 12psi

stock turbo

stock ecu

lightened flywheel

twin plate clutch

HKS adjustable suspension

double din head unit- change that to my pioneer one

r32 gtr rims( 205 all round) :pwned: lol would have to burn up the rubber for a reason to get fatter ones.

Mongoose 2point immobaliser alarm

turbo timer

pretty stock all round. when i get it il update on it.

all up 20k drive away.

i looked at many of them drove in many of them, when i saw this one i knew i had to have it. its clean inside nice interior, appart from boost guage no over the top guages and so on, not a fan of them. the engine bay is immac, same all exterior not a scrath on it.its has a race seat on drivers side, but its on rails and so on,so doesnt look like some of the dodgy ones i seen.

I wanted to change the rims for some of the others he had but as the time whent on he sold all the other cars an nothing to trade with.when these tyres are worn out, id need some bigger rubber, what is the biggest u can go on r32 gtrs?

Im also in need of some good insurance companies, i got a quote from just car

$2750 full comp. i want to know of some other, custom cars is one too waiting on a reply from them, hopfully they can do better, an i can pay monthly.lol

im 19 now and i have never been pull over by cops or had a fine, this will certainly change when i get the sky, i have been cruising around in a vn commodore v6 manual, i lowered it an had an exhaust put on it an was still pretty shy of cops.

anyway just want to get some feedback on the car, see what people think, ask me some questions. as i dont have it yet i might be abit limited on answers.

here are some pic of the dealer.

thanks

Neil

yeh i live up norh of vic,

running a pretty similar set up to you,

have fun with the car, youl enjoy it.

full insurance does get real expensive,

i am with just cars, i gotta quote from them when i only had exhaust and pod and 18" wheel, full comp was 1600 i think, but that was just after i was off my Ps.

yeh mate thats good thinking,

full comp is always good, cause anyhting can happen.

and you would be crushed if after a little while something happend and you didnt have it,

youd regret it then.

better to be safe then sorry

Congrats on the purchase. I purchased my Evo from these guys, they are excellent and the vehicle has been faultless in 1 year of ownership and over 34,000kms. :D

Straight talking, no bull Aussies who I understand. Good service and a happy SSV customer here :pwned:

Under the new laws won't it be illegal to own this if on your P plates?

It has ALWAYS been illegal to drive this on P plates, for the last 15yrs at least. But now the penalties have changed, instead of a slap on the wrist ($100 fine only), they have increased the fine to $1000 and you loose 3 dimerit points. This comes in, in July and expect cops to start to enforce it, as it now is a decent revenue raiser :)

By the way; NICE LOOKING CAR!

PS: The rims in that pic are NOT 32 GTR rims

Hey mate, congrats.

I was looking at that exact same car! In the end I purchased a silver 33 from them instead, good blokes indeed. My car originally had the 32GTR wheels on it but like you said they a bit ratty, but i grabbed those ones in your picture!

Also when I looked at that car (2 weeks ago) it was running an HKS FCON computer, and no one in Victoria can tune them so i'd double check that. Also I think it had an HKS wastegate actuator on it, so maybe dif turbo?

Anyway good luck with it mate!

+1

Mark was very easy to deal with when I was looking for my r33. Didnt buy it from them in the end, but certainly happy with the quality of cars that they had.

Just be careful when you do drive the car, as others have said, it is not legal when you are on your p's (might have to keep it stock, till you are off your p's)

As for insurance, you could try shannons too....

welcome mang. SSV was a very good choice in dealer. i got my car from them and didnt get any aftermarket parts with it (quite the noob you see) but Mark didn't take the opportunity he had to screw me over. instead he found me the cleanest r33 ive seen since then. enjoy your ride

    • Yeah, hard to find and a pain in the ass to change with the transverse engine. I’ve worked on a GTiR before and it’s not a job I’d ever want to do again. theres a company in South Africa that makes RS3 gearbox adaptors for the AWD SR20 including gearbox mounts, so I could modernise it and go a dual clutch with paddles. For now tho, it ticks all the boxes. Super cheap, can throw the kids and their junk in the back, and SR20 that I can turbo cheaply, a CVT that’s not a dog’s breakfast like the V35, and has 80% interchangeable parts with stuff I can source from the wreckers cheaply…. But it’s still unique. I love the wagon back of the Autech version. It’s cheap enough that I can buy another stock manual FWD Primera with SR20VE, swap the gearbox to the N15 pulsar short gear ratio box, swap out the brakes to the R32 ones I pulled off my 32, register it on club plates and take it racing. $1300 shipping from NZ. Heaps of parts and aftermarket builders for transverse SR20’s in NZ.
    • Hard to say, just pop the rocker covers off and have a look if you think it's cammed. You probably need to replace the valve cover gasket/half moons anyways.
    • From my youth: GTi-R clutch change is a massive pain. The gearboxes are fragile? But the car is super cool and I want one 😢
    • Remember this is 1988 tech.
    • Driveline vibration is resolved. I ended up loosening all my engine mount and trans mount bolts, giving it a good shake then retightening everything and it's gone... Let's just say I was surprised that fixed it.  I've been happily driving it around again but unfortunately put zero time into my direct port/constant pressure WMI setup. I'm on vacation next week, so I'll try and finalize it then.  On a different note, I spent all week fuel/ignition mapping 2x 216L V16 engines. Turbo's were burning glycol and we swapped them out for larger units. We also had planned emissions testing on site, so I figured I'd be there the same week to use their instrumentation and massage any emissions issues out if needed. This was a first for me. Fuel management is similar in certain ways to automotive (i.e air density as load variable) but very different in others. It's all PLC based and AFR's are controlled by air and not fuel. They use a control valve between the turbo and air manifold to control pressure which in turn controls AFR's. Due to this, target AFR tables supplied by the OEM are in pressures and not mass which really through me off. They use air pressure vs fuel pressure tables. I also relied on an O2 concentration sensor the emissions team had in the exhaust. Ignition timing was also all over the place and we were losing a fair bit of power. They're now happily sitting at 16-40BTDC depending on load. We were making about 1600kw at 900rpm at 90% load. Engines were running a lot smoother as well.
