Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone can recommend where to buy a Stag in Brissy or the gold coast? I live in Coffs and hate going to Sydney, so brissys the best option. I'm after a low ks s2 auto, close to stock, with a yard that can provide finance.... Still gotta sell my 32gtst first (shouldn't be hard, bit ratty but runs good, immobiliser, stereo, 18s, and I only want 6k for it....) so I'm not after anything for a few weeks at least. So, can anyone recommend any yards?

Sell your car FIRST. Walk for a few weeks. Ride a bike. Get a bank loan.

The OZ dollar is worth 100 Yen. You can get a very good deal thru JSpec or Prestiege etc. that would be at least 3-5 grand less than what the yards offer. I got a god S1 last year for 131/2 on the road insured when the yards wanted 20. The yards have come down a lot because of market forces. When I bought the OZ was only 82 Yen. Big differences.

If your impatient you will pay thru the nose.

Of course you could make us ALL happy and buy Andy's.(If he does I was 5%)LOL

Can't agree more...the YEN has just kept going up which is really good if you want to try and import one in yourself. Go to the yards and check out a few cars so you can compare S1's and S2's. Work out how much you want to spend, most important.....

There was a white S2 at Import Car Centre in Springwood, asked guy bout it and it had sold for $22k. There is a silver S1 in there for $19900 ther atm. Considering I imported my S2 for under 18k, my choice (and mine alone) would be to import and save the extra money for mods.

Good luck!

i couldnt agree mor with Hugh with the aussie dollar at all time high. you probably can get an S2 now with the same amount of money a few months ago which you could only get an S1. but its entirely up to you.

Over the years i have learn that impatience always get you ended up paying more. Can you wait? If yes then buy from jspec. Hope this helps.

You guys are actually aware that he has already sold it sren't you?

Thanks guys. The main prob with waiting is that I need a car for work, and I need to sell my current 32 to but the stag... paying a couple of grand more is not a huge worry, as it's only a weeks work for me at the moment (which is why I'm buying a new car!) I guess I am kinda impatient, and I kinda worry about buying a car unseen from japan. At least if I buy off a dealer I can check it out before buying. If anyones got any horror stories about the yards mentioned so far, please PM me. Thanks

if u were in perth...i'd sell u mine ....getting bored now and looking to move on to a v35 line.

motavation(burleigh heads),mjr motorsports(southport), preferred autos(labrador) all have web sites and usually pretty good examples.

I bought mine from MJR Motorsports. I'm in WA, and got it trained here. Car was in great condition and got it for a good price. However I can't really say for he rest of their stock, but the stagea that I bought really stuck out.

If you want to import.. Price will be better definately, but you definately won't be getting it 'now' you will have to wait roughly 3 months (at best) until its at your doorstep and can be potentially risky, however alot of the guys here swear by it.

My best bet, EGA41T's... looks like one hell of a stagea.. too bad it just sold :)

I bought mine from motorvation on the gold coast. car still running fine now (over a year later) BUT there were some problems with it that I wasn't told about or was told wasn't a problem...

The rear suspension was stuffed, had it fixed under dealer 3mth warranty (they confessed to it when I mentioned it and were happy to have it fixed).

Fan belt needed replacing which I did myself - not really their fault - most imports will need these replaced after being covered in dust for months).

The turbo made a loud whining noise as soon as it hit boost and I was told that all s2 stageas make that noise (?!). When I eventually got it checked by a turbo specialist, he told me it was faulty and since the stock turbo isn't repairable, I decided to upgrade it. Cost several thousand, as the exhaust manifold was cracked as well...if that happens to you - it can be done a lot cheaper, especially if you do the work yourself. A direct bolt-on replacement can be had for under $1000.

There were also several scratches on the car, one up to 10 cm long, covered with touch-up paint or something that looked like white-out. I had asked over the phone for photos of any scratches and was told there weren't any. Bit disappointed to fly over to the gold coast from adelaide and find a couple of noticeable scratches on it (mostly minor). Its expected for a 1999 model car, but it wasn't a nice surprise.

So I guess the lesson is to really check the car out thoroughly for yourself, or have it inspected (more thoroughly than the inspection report I got, which basically said that all the lights work and the wheels are present and it drives and stops).

All in all though, the only major problem was the suspension and turbo and I only had to pay for the turbo. Since then we've had no dramas and I'm still very happy with the car - so dont take this to mean that I bought a lemon - I didn't.

The interior of the car was spotless and they did a good job of cleaning it up. Also their service was excellent - they picked us up from coollongatta airport and drove us back to their yard to pick up the car and pay for it etc. We were only there for about 45 mins and then we were on our way.

Now more than a year later, its had a few mods, makes a lot more power and runs like a dream. Couldn't be happier with it :)

i bought mine sight unseen from motorman imports in QLD and had it trucked down to VIC.

had no major issues only one was that the cartage company tied the car down that hard it blew the rear shocks out!!! i was there when they unloaded it and i was horrified, i called the car yard and told them and they were straight on the blower to cartage co and made them pay for half of the suspension replacement!! and car yard also fronted with 500bucks towards it too so was mighty happy then:).

guys who own motorman are father and son pair of pommie blokes and are really good to deal through

good luck in your search.

cheers oxford

Mine will be up for sale again, probably between the $20k to $15k mark, depending on how quickly I want it to sell. I'm in Rockhampton but can drive it to Brisbane for you to pickup.

Check out my sig for my mod list.

Just got my 2000 S2 with 83000kms from a Melb dealer. Haven't picked it up yet, currently getting complied. Picking up next weekend hopefully. Deposit paid and all that. Went through a stateroads.com.au comprehensive inspection costing $189 and this is what they picked up

- rotors need machining

- driver side lock is busted

- interior ceiling is dirty

other then that the guy said it was an extremely good example. Passed the compression test, body inspection etc etc. The cost of the car was $16k. PM me if you want a contact.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
