Things noticed, that hoses are much more expaned (brand new ones) less fluid in the overflow bottle. Car Seems to take longer to warm up, might be of recent HQ coolant change. Has anyone compaired them to the original ones? Do these high pressure ones add more stress to seals and in future contribute to possible coolant leaks, also maybe water pump seal deteriorate faster, maybe more load for pump...

I replaced the hose going from my radiator overflow to the overflow bottle with fatter stuff. I've noticed lately that my new hose has resulting in much more overflow to the bottle. This is kinda annoying. Anybody know why?

oh and i painted my radiator cap and the car runs that much more cooler now :D

a heavier cap increases the pressure in your system. This actually increases the boiling temperature of the coolant. Eg water boils at 100degrees at 1 atmosphere. The coolant in your system heats up and gets pressurised so that it boils at a higher temp than 100, ie you dont want your coolant to boil as you get steam. Basically i think its supposed to increase the cooling system to operate at a higher temp without blowing its top into the overflow bottle, and as you say, more coolant will remain in the system.

If you hammer the car then a high pressure rad cap is recommended as sly33 stated it increases the boiling temperature. Hence it won't boil.

Try well maybe not but if you click your radiator cap so that it is just sitting there and not holding pressure you will notice that going up hills or when flooring it temps will climb.

That may be true with a stock motor MotoX however if you are making 300od rwkw then after a hard run the coolant in the head will no doubt begin to boil in parts. This is where the higher pressure cap will help prevent this due to the higher boiling point.

the RB30ET motor has troubles with the coolant boiling in the head so you slap a HD rad cap on and it helps prevent it.

For a stock motor it is hardly worth the trouble and as you said you are better off with a decent coolant.

This is also noticible when you have a thick fmic sitting in front of your radiator.. The radiator has trouble keeping the coolant cool.. Twin 12" thermo's fixed this problem for me however on hot days after driving around and around I still get a few problems.

there was one on my car when i got it... never really thought it actually did much... i really should top up the coolant... brand recommended? (im guessing those kmart 5litre bottles are a no no?)

havent used any other...first coolant change since i got the car...and whatever crap they filled up in compliance. Just get one that suits you price wise, you usally get what you pay for. Some stuff for like 40buck or a bit less for 5 liters, premade. Redline Oils also have a coolant needs to be mixed with water of some other stuff. Shop around. Your price range.

    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.  
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
