Cars You Want, But Your Country Wont Import.

Theres so many great cars the US doesn't even get. Half the time we don't even always get the good versions of AMERICAN cars. It's even worse with imports. When they finally do bring a good car over here, they dumb it down and change its styling to the point that it looks nothing like the car it was supposed to be. Then when no one buys it the manufacturers are like "see, we told you there was no market for that car here". For every great car we don't get, someone builds an SUV. Anyways these are a few of the cars I would love to see in the US. Not all of them are new.

Nissan Skyline

Nissan Silvia

Nissan Cefiro (first gen, we got it when it became the Maxima)

Honda Civic Type R

Vauxhall Astra VXR

Ford Focus ST (euro)

Ford Mondeo (euro)

Ford Fiesta ST (euro)

Alfa Romea 147 GTA

I mean, thats just a few cars. Theres prolly 50 more that I would kill for. Like the early generation Evo's and STi's, or the AWD Celica's. I'm also curious to see what cars you guys would like to import if it was possible.

maybe when the US starts setting up free trade to other countries then your worries are no more... but until then, enjoy your v8's.

btw i love the new corvette ls6, unlike the wannabe hsv's ls1 pushrod technology.

have fun and come down under.

p.s I have probably stated the above comments out of context but, I feel for your dilemma. =)

Yeh, I have some Aussie friends who post here, and are always linking me to these forums, so I figured if I was gonna read all the posts anyways I might as well reply. This is the "General Automotive Discussion" forum is it not?

I'd also like to add the Toyota Chaser to my list.

Yank cars of the past, present and future. Same as all those Euro LHD onlys we miss out on. All the Jap only models etc etc!! Heaps. You gotta make the most of what you can in your country when it comes to uniqueness, which is why I drive a GTR :D

i will continue to hold a grudge against the government for not letting me have an E30 M3 in LHD registered in Victoria.

And I will continue to hold a grudge against BMW for not releasing the E30 M3 in RHD.

ahh the new corvette does use pushrods. There is nothing really wrong with pushrods either. They negate the need for a huge high head sitting on top of a block. And the current corvette seems to rev pretty hard.

The current LS2 has more technology behind it than some old RB series engine period.

Are there actually any cars we can't import in Australia? I mean most of the time it just comes down to money, who's got $200,000 to spend on a viper. I'm pretty sure if you want a car enough you could own it for two years in the country its coming from and then bring it in as a private import.

It would suck though to know that you own a certain car, having it on the other side of the world and not being able to drive it. What gets me is all the imports you see that can only be imported for race/rally only. If you look at some of them there does not appear to be anything too wrong with them. Some are absolutely nuts which probably explains the statement I just made. Oh well.......

TVR Sagaris & other similar cars

Porsche 951 (a tiny number were available here, but they should have brought more. They're like commonwhores in the US with every 17yo able to pick up a decent example for around AUD$8000 :()

I'm sure I could think of plenty more but that's a good start.

      Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.

      If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.

      If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.

      Will this fit? but they are staggered set - RAYS 57DR SEMI GLOSS BLACK 18x8.5 +37 | 18x9.5 +38 5-114.3 STAGGERED SET   or If no go could just get a set 4's wheels of 18x8.5 +37 5-114.3 - would i run 8.5's 235s up front n 245's at the back if I do?   Thanks.

      Put a clamp on your return line. I have a feeling it's sucking air, and introducing bubbles to your fuel. With a lot of fuel, less problematic. I'd honestly be redoing all the lines in the tank and clamps on everything.   Also, you've given two different answers to the same question: Asked if being followed by the police you could get down to use the whole tank, you said yes you could, so long as you keep off boost. However, you then followed this up that free revving, it would also cause the issues. I'm doubting free revving is enough to make any noticeable boost on what is likely a decent sized turbo.   So now I have to ask, can you actually drive it lightly and use all the fuel, or does it break up even free revving? Also, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Can you hear the pump change noise at all when you're having this issue?
