People who drive like idiots around other cars deserve to be punished, just the other day I seen a yellow hsv or monaro or something with plates GTO 143 or similar, going from lane to lane trying to get around cars for about 5ks down the freeway, and he ended up a whole 2 cars infront of me. Hero, fag, same.

There would be less hoons endangering lives if we didn't have morons governing our roads with immoral motives for doing such a poor job. Anybody can see we need stricter, more practical driving assessments (like AHG advanced driver training, not a pathetic hazard perception test done on a computer). Is it going to happen? No, because they don't want to spend the extra money on it and the more people who get a licence the more money they make. We could introduce more complexes for legal burnout pads, drag strips and circuits giving hoons a legal alternative to get their speed fix. Hmm no once again that would cost money and then there would be less people on the road to fine. I know, lets do what they do every year and increase the number of speeding cameras and increase fine penalties because that seems to have lowered the road toll for the past decade :D

Sure many of us may have done the silly stuff, but many of us know when it is the appropriate time and place to do so without endangering anybody else's life. Weaving in and out of traffic, running red lights, triple digit speeds in a 50 zone, etc... you can't blame TT/ACA for doing hoon stories like these when there are idiots doing stuff like that.

These threads always cause me to rant lol government authorities anger me with their stupidity.

Given the choice between spending money to fix a problem & not spending money the government will always pick the latter. Even at the expense of making everyones lives that bit more difficult. Unfortunately it has reached the point whereby traffic policing is more about PR than anything else.

As for your second point - well I don't agree. The sort of clown who choses to do burnouts on the roads or generally drives like an idiot is almost never seen at any of the regular track events run by various organisations. The requisite planning, commitment & discipline is well beyond the reach of these intellectually challenged folk.

What upsets me the most is the police & government PR doesn't bother differentiating between dickheads driving rubbish but supposed performance cars & people who might otherwise be referred to as car enthusiasts. The next time I hear of a bog standard Commode and/or Foulcan referred to as "high powered" I think I will throw up.

Remember car enthusiasts are not hoons & hoons are not car enthusiasts.

THAT is the key right there, that and assuming that everyone else on the road is a dickhead is how I survive ;)

i for one am a bit tried of the busted ass, worn out excuse that it's the governments fault there are hoons. (not that i'm a fan of the government mind you). how does not having free performance driving courses or not having a legal place to hoon, have anything to do with people hooning on public roads?

if anything if would only incourage it. "i've done a high performance course so now i know everything so i'm going hoon on the streets" or " i've had plenty of practice hooning on the skid pan so now i know everything so i'm going to hoon on the streets."

Whether the police wanna admit it or not, hooning has been around since the days of the Model T ford, probably even the horse and cart it's nothing new, and i'm just as many ppl got done for this type of behaviour 10 years ago as this year. The media is just making a big this about cause ppl are bored with hearing about home many ppl die in Irag every day.

Some people for a rush do drugs, jump out of planes, bungee jump, whatever. Some people hoon. Not saying it's right or that i do it, but it's just part of being a human being. Even animals do sh1t they shouldn't do to get a rush.

Blaming it on not having somewhere to hoon or lack of training is a lame excuse. It's all about personal attitude. We all have a choice whether to hoon or not. It has nothing to do what sort of car we drive, how well we are trained or lack of facilities. It's in the damn DNA.

Am I supposed to believe the best drivers in Australia have never hooned public roads? Brock, Skaife, Richards, Lowdnes are the best, and they get to hoon legally every weekend. They don't hoon on the roads? I know for a fact one of them has before.

we need to stop blaming everyone else and start taking responsibility for our own actions. If i ever get caught hooning and have my car taken away i got no to blame but my self.

I do agreed a skid pan or the like would be worth while, but it would have to be open and manned / supervised 24/7. This might have some effect on reducing hooning.

I dont blame the government and if i get caught i do blame my self but still it would be good to have somewhere to let off some steam. If there was somewhere that people could go and drift, circiut race there mates, or just go and smoke there tyres up and they were open regularly i know id rather do it there, but at the moment there is just no where to go.

If i win lotto ill build some where for everyone haha :)

I do not blame government for the 'hooning' that occurs in a direct sense. However, I believe the goverment's choice of enforcement, management and resolution have much to do with the amount that occurs, and the frequency.. Also, the average Australian's view of cars and speed causes and detrimental rift between enthusiasts and (A to B) road users... In my view, if we viewed and enforced speed like the Germans do, and likewise viewed and enforced modification like the Japanese do, then Australia would be a driver's heaven...

You don't even need to get started on skid-pads, drag strips and tracks... Our roads are shitty enough! We should have super-highways like the German auto-bahnen... Can't handle 200km/ph?? Stick in the first two left lanes, and let the rest cruise past at will...

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
