Five arrested over car rebirthing racket July 19, 2007 02:51pm

POLICE have arrested five men and allegedly smashed a major motor vehicle rebirthing syndicate in early morning raids in Sydney's west today.

After intensive inquiries as part of Strike Force Olympian, Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad detectives simultaneously raided five residential premises shortly after 6am (AEST).

Three men aged 26, 27 and 30 were being questioned at Merrylands police station in western Sydney today after they were arrested at homes in Old Guildford, Greystanes and Granville.

A 26-year-old man was taken to Flemington police station for questioning after being arrested at a home in Berala.

About 8.30am (AEST) detectives raided four wrecking yards and spare parts businesses in Fairfield and Yennora.

At a business in Fairfield, a 21-year-old Guildford man was arrested and taken to Flemington police station.

Detectives seized more than 15 vehicles, as well as car parts, from premises in Old Guildford, Greystanes, Granville, Chester Hill, Berala, Fairfield and Yennora.

All the vehicles will undergo a forensic examination.

Detective Superintendent Ken McKay, Commander of the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad, said the operation involved 100 police from the State Crime Command, Forensic Services Group, Public Order and Riot Squad and South West Metropolitan Region.

The operation also involved the Roads and Traffic Authority, the Motor Traders Association and the NSW Office of Fair Trading.

Police believe a large number of the vehicles, mainly Honda and Mazda sedans, were stolen to order for panel shops, wrecking yards and individuals involved in rebirthing, Detective Superintendent McKay said.

Some of those arrested today will face charges of facilitating vehicle rebirthing, under legislation which was introduced in NSW last year.

Police say they are continuing to push for compulsory whole-of-vehicle marking, which is one of the greatest deterrents to rebirthing.

good work. nice to see police are acting against car theieves. when one of my cars were stolen I got the distinct impression that it was "tough break buddy" and that was the end of it. :D

These f**kers must have stolen a copper's car, or someone with enough political clout to get the cops to do something.

I get the feeling they're going to find the guy who walked off with Lawsy's golden mike before they find the guys who broke into my mate's place and stole all his stuff.

A nice gesture/effort by the cops but lets be real........... The laws in Aus are pathetic and these scumbags will be back at it within 3 months ( tops ) unless the cops can tie them into something else like guns or drugs.

So long as Australia has these "smack on the hand" laws, the crims will just keep going without fear.

BIG THANKS to all the people out there who preach that criminal's have rights and are people too !! :thumbsup: You're doing this world a great service :)

thats 5 less just another 1000 or more

yeah thats right. i dont think anyone is safe yet.

there are at least another 5 businesses i can think of that operate like that. and thats just the parra area.

      I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

      My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.

      So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
