lately ive been going back and forth about whether to continue doing this car and making a name out of it, or to save the money and buy a r34gtr.

the plan at the start was to initially do a hybrid rb25/30 rebuild with a 600hp Garrett GT30BB turbo.

but after thinking about it so much i felt that it was a waste putting that much power into a rwd car, the turbo can pull as much as 400rwkw as im told. so its not a small figure. im also aware that the right combo of tyres and driver skill can easily beat a awd car.

but down to the guts of it, owning a gtr vs a animal gtt which would u guys go for?

i know there are many cars on here with 300+rwkw on their GTST and was wondering how they felt about it, and has upgrading to a GTR ever crossed their mind.

AWD and dont look back

:)

i know the advantages are endless when it comes to AWD, but the pricetag of a immac r34 gtr shoots up to 60,000+

i guess most of us will ask whether 60,000 is worth it all

this one was going for 68,000k

to continue doing this car and making a name out of it...............

:) That is pure GOLD!! :)

350+rwkw cars are not rare and can be found very easily. So if you think this power figure will be something special "to make a name out of it" you're deluding yourself.

If you have any future plans/thoughts to sell this car and move on to a GTR or something else, don't waste your money on power gains.

If you plan to keep it for a LONG time then by all means.............

But as you have already posted this thread, this means you are having thoughts on getting a GTR, so don't waste your money.

GT-R, you'll never recover the money you put into the GT-T and by the sounds of it you want a GT-R so you'll never really be happy with the GT-T...

hrmmm very true, i dont think ill be able to afford one though until maybe another year or so, and if i do go with that option, do i stop modifying the gtt? or should i do some softer mods? eg suspension or maybe just settle for 300rwkw?

im not doubting there are alot of 350rwkw cars out there but they aint around every corner like u make them out to be. 350 is defiently not a toy lol

but it defiently makes sense wat u say, thinking about driving the gtr makes it clear wat i should go for, then again......

i guess im gonna have to cut make on lesser necessities of life if im gonna get that r34 gtr in my driveway

I could think of about more than ten 300+rwkw, non have a "name for themselves"

Reading you last few post sounds like you have no idea what a 300+rwkw car is :). Even though the number is a great thing to pluck out of the air, there is more than just a turbo that is required to make and support the power. Then there are the compromises that come with big power cars, ie: bittier clutch, LAG, drivability, etc.

Are you sure the GT30 is a 600hp turbo? My GT30R is rated at 500hp, which may see me at just over 300rwkw@20psi, once the motor is finished and tuned.

hrmm fair enough, just curious though what are your thoughts on 400rwkw?

i cant quite remember if it was a gt30bb or a gt40, but i was told it was a 600hp turbo.

im also aware of clutch lag and everything like that, which are other reasons why i wanted to opt for the gtr.

its a tough job the modifying business lol

Not really.

By the time you spool up, regain traction, then start to catch up, he'll be almost at the finish line.

Some basic mods could see the GTR doing high 11's / flat 12's, on street legal tyres, with the std turbos. Try to do that with any rwd Skyline. It can be done but is not at easy and cheap as you may think.

you dont have to tell me its cheap........TRUST me i know.

wat do gtrs run from the factory? low 13? im sure a 350rwkw gtt should reach the mid 12s shouldnt it? i know the gtr would have the launch advantage but like you said, it can be done. my thoughts anyway........could be wrong

just checked the specs and the r34 gtr runs a 13.7 at 103.5

hybrid rb25/30 rebuild with a 600hp Garrett GT30BB turbo.

the turbo can pull as much as 400rwkw as im told.

No it cant, it wont even come close to 400rwkw.

Where ever you get your "information" from, its exceptionally incorrect

I may be wrong, but sounds like a GT35, as GT40's i think are 700hp.

My thoughts:

400rwkw on a rwd Skyline: Useless and probably annoying. Have you seen the green 33 gtst "GHOST" at the Autosalon or in HPI. Great car, making 485rwkw, but it's a bitch to drive (owner hates the clutch), the car blew it's gearbox after Autosalon and the owner still hasn't bothered to fix it, which tells me he may have already had enough. I took him for a drive in my car (with the GTRS fitted) and he spun out. I was barely making 270rwkw, but he loved the acceleration and mid range torque. His car would take ages to spool up (4800 or 5200rpm) then when it did he had to change gears, even at the street tuned 360rwkw.

I honestly think you'll eventually hate driving the car, because the majority of the time you're city driving and you'll not hit boost. Then there is the cops, epa, breakages, fuel, insurance, ect.

My GT30R is being bolted to a fully built rb30det, with cams, plenum, manifold, etc. Car is a weekend driver (if that), as i have a company car. The combination should see me have 20psi by about 3200rpm and making fat power to the 8000rpm redline. This combo will be more responsive than my current HKS GT-RS turbo on my rb25det, hell i think it will be more responsive than a std hi-flow turbo :).

Before you ask.......

YES it is alot of money, but i have already had the car for 7yrs, and have no ambition to get rid of it or to get a GTR. I love how my car handles and love how the ass end flicks out when i want it to. :)

Oh, i missed the part where you said "rb25/30". With a GT35R this would be nice to drive and will not be laggy, probably equivalent to a GT-RS on a RB25det. A 700hp turbo would definately see 400rwkw, with all the right mods, but once again, clutch, drivabilty, etc will be compromised :)

If you plan to sell/upgrade don't spend this much money, as you are honestly looking at $25,000+ to go from a std rb25neo, to a 400rwkw rb30det.

Factor in: cams, plenum, manifold, forgies, machining, bearing, fabrication, labour, etc..........

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?

LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
