Betz
Hi guys, I am at work at the moment, I just went down the shop on my break to get some smokes and my oil pressure guage was sitting static on 2.0psi or bar or whatever it is, I switched off and it went to 0 and powers on when ignition is on but wont jiggle around like it usually does. I checked the oil and it was a little low so I topped it up, still no pressure, I ran the car with the oil cap off and the cams are throwing oil around so it looks like it has some oil up top. Maybe the oil pressure guage has just had the dick, but it seems to be fine and powers up, the memory recall works and so does the warning light, but the warning light wasnt on when it was reading a static 2.0 bar. So, is it safe to drive home? can anyone explain where the sender goes so I can check that when i finish work before i trundle home? halp, halp, halp!!! dont let my RB26 eat itself Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/185686-halp-no-oil-pressure/ Share on other sites
Betz
ooook, I'll help myself then... I went to UltraNooob around the corner and they wouldnt touch the car..wtf? They did however confirm that there was oil circulating, which it looked like to me anyway, but how much and if it was safe to drive they would not say.. I took the risk and drove it the 30k's home in peak hour trying realy hard to keep the revs below 2500-3000rpm with a button clutch in peak hour while missing Akmal on Nova because I had to keep an ear out for signs my motor might be eating itself. Ok, so now I'm home I'll hunt around for details on checking the oil pressure sender. god I love this forum, so much help, its great if SAU was a porn site it would be all about masturbation... heh jut kidding Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/185686-halp-no-oil-pressure/#findComment-3360092 Share on other sites
GTAAAH
I'd be ringing head office and having a whinge, i'm yet to see an ultranoob ad which says "we reserve the right to turn down import owners" but yeh, i'd just get your sender checked out, mine dies sometimes too for a while then fixes itself Also akmal was crud today, he dissed out maori's and it was just like a 30 minute ring up and whinge session, i've converted to hamish and andy on 101.9 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/185686-halp-no-oil-pressure/#findComment-3360368 Share on other sites
Duncan
pretty common for the sender to die. Odds are if you drove 30klm and it didn't spin a bearing (knocking noise) or seize that it was not oil pressure failure Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/185686-halp-no-oil-pressure/#findComment-3360758 Share on other sites
Beer Baron
what kind of gauge is it? and what sender is it hooked up to? the standard one, or one that came with the gauge? sewid
Oil pressure sensors on R32's die a lot. And they usually misbehave intermittently before completely dying. My old R32 did this. An R32 i recently drove did this. A friends R32 does this. I think there's even a group buy thread for oil pressure senders from Nissan. I wouldn't be too worried about it but get a new sender. Beer Baron
guys, he's using an aftermarket gauge. unless all R32s have oil pressure peak hold and warning and I somehow missed it... Betz
the gague is a GReedy with adjustable warning light and a memory recall, I assume its hooked up to the stocko sender as the factory gague is not working, I drove it again today as my tuner recons most likely just the sender... BUT! each time I start the car I take the cap off to make sure there is some oil getting around and I'm only babying it until I can get to my tuner. I did however take my radiator cap off and have a look... mmmmmm milky green coolant, looks like a wrong lime milkshake so I assume oil is getting in my coolant, but my oil is fine, which is a bit strange if the head gasket is gone there would be water in the oil and oil in the water.... so um... yeah I'm not realy sure what is going on. will swing a few hours off work tomoz and go to my tuners and get it sorted until then, anyone care to guess what the hell is going on? Duncan
sure, but are you sure you want to know what i think 1/ your gauge isnt hooked up properly because its very unlikely the stock sender will run the greddy guage. stock gauge needs stock sender, greddy gauge needs greddy sender. 2/ you have a blown head gasket. depending on what exactly is blown you can get different symptoms, but oil and blowby in coolant is 99% due to head gasket, and the other options are even worse eg cracked block. Beer Baron
yes i've seen it before where you get oil in coolant, but no coolant in the oil. not a good sign i'm afraid. Betz
took the arvo off and took my car to Ray at Velociti Motori who tuned the car about a month ago, I have only driven for the last 3 weeks from Greensborough to Port Melbourne for work, so less than 1000k's anyways, he did a coolant pressure test and diagnosed it as a blown head gasket and he reckons the guage sender is stuffed as it seems the engine is getting plenty of oil.... so, it looks like another $1000, hopefully the head isnt warped *sigh* GTR = $2 per kilometer ($1 for upkeep and $1 for fuel) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/185686-halp-no-oil-pressure/#findComment-3365043 Share on other sites
Betz
So I flushed he radiator and have been driving and not been able to read any oil pressure, Got to my mechanic and he hooked up another guage and sender and same result, static 2bar pressure. there is a very small amount of oil in the coolant but its not milk and could just be a little bit of residue that is floating on the top of the coolant, its being flushed again tomorrow aswel as an oil change and filters.. I am obviously getting enough oil pressure to keep my motor alive, and I can only guess that one of the galleries is blocked. the car is still running great and I am not loosing oil (atleast not loosing alot of oil into the coolant) and I am blowing no smoke. does anyone have a schematic of the RB26 oiling system? I will prolly stick an airline in the oil sender hole and give it a blast to see if I can dislodge a blockage if that is what it is.. still stumped as to what is the problem, but dont want to pull the donk out just for the sake of it. SAU ppl help me out plz, wazzzzzup with this? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/185686-halp-no-oil-pressure/#findComment-3388292 Share on other sites
RNGTR
yes i've seen it before where you get oil in coolant, but no coolant in the oil. not a good sign i'm afraid. Correct.
