and i have an old motor magazine where they put glen setons v8 supercar up against a formular ford and a porsche gt3 down a runway. the v8 didn't get off the line that well, and they were all about even run about a 12.x second quarter (but the v8's speed was well above the other 2), and the v8 was a full second quicker that the other 2 going from 80km/h to 120kmh. the other 2 took about 3 seconds and the v8 took 2, and then after 400m the v8 stretched it's legs and left them for dead. i will try to find it tomoro and scan the performance figures in.

interesting indeed...get up some figures will be good to see i reckon.

it seems that all the ppl sayin that the GTR would get whooped stil havent read the records..

GTR HOLDS THE RECORD FOR FASTEST RACE

if everything else is sooooo much quicker and the GTR would get owned... why does the record stand after what??? 16 YEARS!?!??

its not like its a not much, its fkn 16 years ffs! thats a really long time for the aussies to get theyre act together and still havent.

plus ur also comparing a 16yo car with a new one. one with a space age bullshit chassis to a street chassis.. if they still cant beat the record.. doesnt that tell u something?

compare apples with apples. the Current 2007 GTR would absolutely MAUL anything this country brings out on the track

ANYTHING

Well the safety car was a new thing back in 91 and 92 and it didnt get as much track time as it does now. Back then the track conditions had to be quite dangerous for it to come out. Now it's out every 5 minutes.

This has a big impact on the race times.

+1

From memory (and a very sketchy one at that) the Sierra's were pushin about 40 psi, and the GT-R's had about 600HP.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, like I said, just from memory.

And of course today any type of car would be running faster due to changes/ugrades in technology etc.

Bottom line is... The GT-R's were so good they had to give them weight penalties... and eventually ban them!

Yes it would.

But it never will, because the general Australian public wants to see Australian cars win.

Unfortunately because of this closed minded culture; progress in local car design has been much slower in my opinion. Mainly due to the fact that Holden wrote to the ATC (Australian Touring Car Board) asking them to change the rules, or they would seek other forms of motorsport such as NASCAR as they were unable to produce a small capacity competitive vehicle able to compete with the other vehicles at the time.

Oh how different things would be if they stepped up to the ball and decided to develop something competetive to th Sierra's, BMW M3's and ofcourse the GTR

"GTR TO JOIN V8 SUPERCAR CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2008

In a landmark decision today, AVESCO has decided to allow Nissan to compete in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship from the beginning of the 2008 season. Gary Rogers Motorsport will campaign the all new 4WD GTR with backing from Nissan.

"It's been a long time coming, and its what much of the Australian public want to see" Gary Rogers said today.

"Some of the purists my kick up a stink when they think back to the dominance the GTRs had in the Group A touring car days back in the early 90's, but its time that we branched out from the taxi series and got some diversity".

It is unknown what the deal between AVESCO and Nissan Australia was worth, however there are rumours that the contract was worth an eight figure sum."

Had you going there didn't I? :yucky:

Didnt Dick Johnsons Sierra do a 2.12 something shootout lap in 1991 or 92?? Fair effort in a 2 litre RWD! ( Stupid amounts of boost FTW ) ! :nyaanyaa:

Yeah and then later on went on to shit two turbos in two cars :yucky:

Its called a safety car

Look at the lap times...when a GTR does a 2;06;8 sec lap then you have an argument...but you dont. Anyway how can a 2007 spec 500K race car be compared to a 15yr old road car.....its laughable...like most threads on this forum.

I am the marketing manager for a V8 Fujitsu team and I own a well modded GTR track car and I have driven both at Qld raceway on many occasions at private test daysand the v8 Supercar with me in it doea 1:14 (and our driver does 1:11:5) and mt GTR on semi slicks does 1:20 so sorry guys but the GTR is not even close.

As the marketing manager you would be well aware of the gearbox and tyres differences between the V8 and your GTR right? I have it on good authority that the gearbox is worth a couple of seconds a lap as are the tyres. Take that into account and your 1:20 laptime compared to 1:14 isn't that far off.....

that record means jack shit. pretty much every lap of this years race was 1 or 2 seconds (and as much as 4 seconds) under the quickest lap of the GTR. but because more time was spent behind the safety car the record wasn't broken. they were only 10 mins off the record and had a safety car come out after lap 1 for a few laps. so take that into account, plus the slower lap times in the wet for the last 40 laps and it would've been beaten.

and the GTR only held the race record by 4 mins from the time set 7 years earlier by peter brock in a VK commodore. then it came within 1 min of being beaten in 95, and within 2 mins in 97. but because it is such a long race and the safety car is used so much now it is going to be a while before it is broken. does that mean that the GTR is a better race car than the cars raced if the record still stands in 10 years time? no. it means the circumstances were better.

Well our driver does 1;11:5 in the v8 and he has done a best of 1:19:4 in my car so its more like 8 seconds

and 8 seconds is lights years away at qld Raceway......this would be more like 17-18 secs at Bathurst track..,

Ha ha I pay all the bills so I am well aware of the costs of all components in our race cars.... Oh and the big difference is the V8 will do that time all day and mine will only be good for 10 laps

    • @Haggerty you still haven't answered my question.  Many things you are saying do not make sense for someone who can tune, yet I would not expect someone who cannot tune to be playing with the things in the ECU that you are.  This process would be a lot quicker to figure out if we can remove user error from the equation.
    • If as it's stalling, the fuel pressure rises, it's saying there's less vacuum in the intake manifold. This is pretty typical of an engine that is slowing down.   While typically is agree it sounds fuel related, it really sounds fuel/air mixture related. Since the whole system has been refurbished, including injectors, pump, etc, it's likely we've altered how well the system is delivering fuel. If someone before you has messed with the IACV because it needed fiddling with as the fuel system was dieing out, we need to readjust it back. Getting things back to factory spec everywhere, is what's going to help the entire system. So if it idles at 400rpm with no IACV, that needs raising. Getting factory air flow back to normal will help us get everything back in spec, and likely help chase down any other issues. Back on IACV, if the base idle (no IACV plugged in) is too far out, it's a lot harder for the ECU to control idle. The IACV duty cycle causes non linear variations in reality. When I've tuned the idle valves in the past, you need to keep it in a relatively narrow window on aftermarket ecus to stop them doing wild dances. It also means if your base idle is too low, the valve needs to open too much, and then the smallest % change ends up being a huge variation.
    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
