Sure - this probably should go to the 'for sale' thread, but that would mean I would have to stray from my Vic forum bookmark. And that's just not me.

Plus this is a good chance for some general discussion on a GT-R build.

Anyhoo - Golgo wannabe, WAYKUN is a genuine 1997 series 3 GT-R. It was brought in to Australia as a personal import in 1998 and is now with the second Australian owner. The car is in great condition with lots of nice goodies - and has been very well cared for...

But it's done over 100,000kms and is perhaps a little tired under the bonnet.

So... if anyone is after a great base for a GT-R build up, let me know.

The owner is looking for $25k. The car hasn't been pranged or raced (apparently WAYKUN is Chinese for 'i'm a hack') and runs and drives really well.

It's available for inspection by appointment. I can have it located at my showroom in Richmond if that's easier.

BTW - the reason for selling the purple GT-R is to buy a red Evo.

Everyone wants to be like Mike...

So - what's good and what's bad with a high KM R. What will need to be rebuilt and what options are there.

Discuss!

Talking to him this morning, his 100k is more like 200k. I thought asians were good at maths...

In reality though, without going for a 1000HP mega engine - what is a reasonable budget for a rebuild?

5k, 10k? For those that have done it - what are lessons learned. What parts are must haves, what is going too far?

Discuss.

my r33, although not an R, has done 170,000k (i bought it at 40,000k some 7 years ago), drives me to city and back everyday, has double the factory rwkws, and is one of the cleanest most reliable examples around if i say so myself...

but i have taken care of the old girl meticulously, the only things going wrong with the car in 7 years being a pin sized hole in one of the coolant hoses, and now the drivers window switch starting to get loose, but still works...

the moral of the story is nissan makes good skylines and if the car has been looked after, 100,000k is no problem :)

Sounds like a University tutorial that's going on right now.

What mods does it have? A high 100,000kms car that has been well taken care of is definitely better than a 50,000kms car that has been trashed on roads and changes oil every 15,000kms. :)

I see this car quite regularly, brings back fond memories of GOLGO (the original) and certainly doesnt look that high on kms.

I think you really want to buy don't you but you want someone to tell you like the Ladas :)

James, seeing as you're offering to load it into you're work garage, I assume he's a mate or connection of yours. Especially with pics of your previous ride.

And why do you say his 100k kms sounds like 200k kms?

His 100k kms sounds like 200k kms because the seller said so, James was estimating the 100k kms initially by the sounds of it and after talking to him, confirmed it is more like double that.

Cars came from the same parents, twins.

Inspector Morse is leaving the post :)

I wish I had a purple GTR! Oh wait...

Why are people straying away from Team Purple?

You people suck!

Evos suck and Team Purple rules! That is all.

    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.

    • sensible choice....and all 32s should be in yellow
    • Run it in open loop for now, and drop the frequency down. This lowers the resolution and requires more duty cycle to do anything, however good to troubleshoot.
