Thats not a bad price... give us a moment to sort something out, like I say, it's still early days.

Btw, my intention isn't to go head-to-head with the HKS/Apex/Trust crowd.

I'm focusing on the lesser known brands like:

Hasemi Sport

Kazama

Ikeya Formula

MOH

Pan Speed etc...

Before I go any further, I can match that price ($290 for the Apex RSM - sent anywhere in Oz) but I won't beat it.

My aim is NOT to start a price war with the established vendors in Perth, but to offer unique parts and accessories, that the owner can appreciate as being something that he/she won't encounter on another car every time they open the bonnet... or open their door.

Hasemi Sport: Run the GT300 Fairlady Z in the JGTC. Silvia/Skyline suspension parts, and aero parts (very nice stuff for the R33).

Kazama: manifolds, dump pipes, exhausts, suspension parts, clothing, goods for the 180SX/Silvia/Skyline/Mark II/Chaser.

Ikeya Formula: Sequen Shift for the 180SX/Silvia/Skyline and RX-7/Integra/Civic later... and other parts and goods.

MOH: Inhouse brand of aero mirrors.

Pan Speed: Suspension parts, aero, manifolds, exhausts for RX-7's

my thoughts are that if YOU like it then its not Rice- Rice is in the eye of the beholder . Seems to me Rice is entirly dependant on whos or the type of car it is attached to rather than what it is: eg A huge wing on a silvia got Rice comments at one Skyline cruise and these came from someone that had a similiar Wing attached to a Skyline.

So i for one support peoples right to individualise thier cars as they seem if - some things may not suit everyone but hey if the owner likes it then its not Rice to the owner.

As for inporting parts -------carbon fibre bonnet for a Supra $$$ let me know

Are you describing Grant's Lancer? That's a ricer if I've ever seen one :P

Rice comes from Rice-Burner, which was used by yank Harley riders to decribe Jap bikes. It was then applied to jap cars, and later to cars that where dressed beyond thier performance (in the US it's usually Hondas).

Grant's Lancer, like so many in Perth, is a classic example with a full body kit and massive rear wing on a Lancer GLi. Needs some Apexi/HKS/Blitz stickers though. Beauty is the eye of the beholder, and my last car was Civic VTiR with a body kit, so who am I to talk. My exhaust on my R33 is viewed as comedic by many, including me (5" tip).

I bet the Lancer isnt Rice to Grant its a thing of beauty to him- so therefore not Rice at all. Rice is a term made up as stated above but is carried onto most vehicle external mods by a lot of small brained individuals that cant afford the kits etc themselves to make there everyday ride into a one off machine with a bit of flair

i think i saw the lancer ur referring to the other day .... or i saw one just like it anyway.

It is personal taste ..... but still we all give little digs to each other about our cars being "ricey" ...... usually the term is just meant in a light teasing way ...... there are some people that take it too far and devote whole websites to it :P ..... they really need a life!!

coz they also help a stock car improve times... oh well, forget it, we're OT i reckon :D

Bloody hell :D. Not your "NOS is fake hp" crusade again. I thought we already beat you down on this?

BTW, I'm trying real hard not to get into the rice debate. And its a pretty big ask for me ;).

you're going to be monitoring an engine that's probably worth less than the monitoring equipment!?

In terms of rice - I agree with the adage that says do what you want, and dont give a shit about whether it's rice or not - because its there for you to enjoy.

However, I dont think that "rice" is an entirely subjective concept. Under-car neons are almost undeniably rice. there's no getting around that. There's nought more ricey than putting neons on a soarer. taking a beautiful $100,000 luxury car and turning it into a dayglo-whiz-stick..........:bonk:

Rice doesnt have to be bad though. It's almost a sub-culture in many respects - like ice for the outside observer. Toungue in cheeck shenanigans.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
