And we have a wet Malaysian GP. Will be very interesting. No TC and wet race. Hope old Webber shows the sort of wet weather pace that saw him do good things in Brazil in the wet in a Jaguar, Japan last year, and even Phillip Island all those years ago in a Formula Ford where he blitxed the field in wet conditions.

COME ON WEBBER !

BBC wins back Formula One rights

Thursday 20th March 2008

F1 will return to the BBC from the 2009 season after the corporation secured a five-year television rights deal, it was announced today.

Twelve years after ITV won the rights and began broadcasting the sport, the BBC have managed to bring Formula One back in a major coup for the organisation.

Bernie Ecclestone, chief executive of Formula One Administration Limited, said: "I am delighted to conclude this new deal with the BBC.

"I wish to thank ITV for their commitment to Formula One and the high quality of their coverage.

"It is an exciting time in Formula One and the BBC has some innovative new ideas to consolidate and expand our UK fanbase."

BBC Sport director of sport rights Dominic Coles said on BBC Sport online: "The biggest motorsporting event in the world is returning home after 12 years.

"We were delighted when Bernie Ecclestone approached us about the return of F1 to the BBC.

"F1 is a crown jewel of sports broadcasting, so to bring the rights back to their traditional home from 2009 is tremendously exciting.

"Fans will be able to enjoy uninterrupted, state of the art and innovative coverage from BBC Sport, across all of our TV, radio and new media platforms, for the first time since 1996."

does this mean the current commentary team will be out of a job?

god i hope so

PLEASE can Clarkson get the job!

The less said by ITV, the better. I'd even support Damon Hill or Nigel Mansell commentating than the tits they have at the moment:

excerpt:

"What do you suppose Lewis Hamilton had for - oh, Raikonnen spins out- breakfast this morning?"

"I hear it's eggs and toast on race days."

quote of the week

he musn't have been watching team jihad throught out th 70's 80's and 90's

no doubt coincided with the switch from Magneti Marelli ECUs to Bosch :)

that one's f**ked too

btw, another Coulthard classhik!!

:laughing-smiley-014: :) :laughing-smiley-014: :D

yes I wonder how much of these problems can be attributed to everyone having to run a maclaren ECU? it certainly didn't seem to get along too well with the ferrari's...

and you call yourself an F1 enthusiast- McLaren has only 1 'a' in the spelling. you can check my Av for help if you like

PLEASE can Clarkson get the job!

i can only imagine the comments

"and Raikkonen is coming 2nd with 1 lap to go- and isn't that a shame?, 'coz Scuderia Ferrari management said they'd pay to have the stick surgically removed from his arse if he won today...."

lol

Q: Did you hear David’s threat on television...?

FM: I was a bit surprised, to be honest, because we are there to race. I tried to pass him. I was inside and he closed (the door on) me and we crashed. I think everybody knows two cars cannot be in the same place in a corner and usually the guy who’s outside has more possibility to go off, so that’s it.

Q: So you haven’t apologised then?

FM: No, because I didn’t do anything wrong. When I do something wrong, I will apologise but this time I don’t need to.

Q: David, you haven’t carried out your threat then?

David COULTHARD: Well, no, and obviously apologies for my strong language but I was frustrated because…

SV: What was it? What was it? Can you repeat it?

DC: You can read it on the website. The reality is, in this situation, Felipe is not racing me for the World Championship so he can do the same manoeuvre for the next 17 Grand Prix and have the same result, because quite clearly my eyes point forward, they don’t point rearward. He’s got a much clearer view as to how much space there is and I didn’t take a different line than I took any other lap so… I was fully prepared for him to pass me in corner three because a Ferrari has a much better top speed, it’s a much quicker car. He made his choice. If he makes the same choice (again), he’ll get the same result. I can’t make my car invisible but as I say, I’m not fighting for the World Championship, he is, so next time he should wait until corner three.

    • Also, I logged some data from the ECU for each session (mostly oil pressures and various temps, but also speed, revs etc, can't believe I forgot accelerator position). The Ecutek data loads nicely to datazap, I got good data from sessions 2, 3 and 4: https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-2?log=0&data=7 https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-3?log=0&data=6 https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-4?log=0&data=6 Each session is cut into 3 files but loaded together, you can change between them in the top left. As the test sessions are mostly about the car, not me, I basically start by checking the oil pressure (good, or at least consistent all day). These have an electrically controlled oil pump which targets 25psi(!) at low load and 50 at high. I'm running a much thicker oil than recommended by nissan (they said 0w20, I'm running 10w40) so its a little higher. The main thing is that it doesn't drop too far, eg in the long left hand fish hook, or under brakes so I know I'm not getting oil surge. Good start. Then Oil and Coolant temp, plus intercooler and intake temps, like this: Keeping in mind ambient was about 5o at session 2, I'd say the oil temp is good. The coolant temp as OK but a big worry for hot days (it was getting to 110 back in Feb when it was 35o) so I need to keep addressing that. The water to air intercooler is working totally backwards where we get 5o air in the intake, squish/warm it in the turbos (unknown temp) then run it through the intercoolers which are say 65o max in this case, then the result is 20o air into the engine......the day was too atypical to draw a conclusion on that I think, in the united states of freedom they do a lot of upsizing the intercooler and heat exchanger cores to get those temps down but they were OK this time. The other interesting (but not concerning) part for me was the turbo speed vs boost graph: I circled an example from the main straight. With the tune boost peaks at around 18psi but it deliberately drops to about 14psi at redline because the turbos are tiny - they choke at high revs and just create more heat than power if you run them hard all the way. But you can also see the turbo speed at the same time; it raises from about 180,000rpm to 210,000rpm which the boost falls....imagine the turbine speed if they held 18psi to redline. The wastegates are electrically controlled so there is a heap of logic about boost target, actual boost, delta etc etc but it all seems to work well
    • hahah when youtube subscribers are faster than my updates here. Yes some vid from the day is up, here:  Note that as with all track day videos it is boring watching after the bloopers at the start.  The off was a genuine surprise to me, I've literally done a thousand laps around the place and I've never had instability there; basically it rolled into oversteer, slipped, gripped and spat me out. On the way off I mowed down one of the instructor's cones and it sat there all day looking at me with accusing cone eyes as I drove past. 1:13:20 was my fastest lap, and it was in the second session, 3rd lap.  It (or me!) got slower throughout the day as it got hotter.
    • It sounds like you want what the Toyota Landcruisers have for their roof racks. Wanna know what you end up with? Rust holes in the roof, and water everywhere...
    • Discovered today that if I select reverse first and take my foot off the brake, then select drive, the drive indicator light works and so does the tiptronic gear indicator.
    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Does anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
