what a drive from massa, from all you people that said he couldn't drive. stick it in ur pipe and smoke it!! he show that he had the pace and skill to win this race (only 1 lap lighter than ham.)

very unlucky about the engine failure  but thats racing.

good work by kimi getting some points, lets hope it helps you left ur game

and

Oh, and burn in hell Massa. This is fate's way of telling you that you dont deserve where you are... get alonso in there

again, Hill and brundle for 09.... do it

get off the crack pipe....

Well i have to say since seing how Massa went alongside MS his first year at Ferrari, well i have liked watching him mature and battle away. This year has been a nig step forward for him, though the German GP result made me ill.

Perhaps i should have had a little more faith in how he has been driving this year, as he was brilliant in the opening lap, looked after his tyres to the point where he could start to punch out laps to pull a gap on Lewis. It was a good race for him, shame to see it taken from him, but thats racing

So, tonights performance means i have wiped Germany from my memory, will see if he continues his 2008 form at European GP. Go Massa, cant believe Kimi has goen so long with quick race pace but less then average points haul :)

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 I was seriously gonna vomit up blood when the engine failed.....the perfect start, the perfect race, the again, Ferrari failed massa. I have a long list of expletives I'd like to scream out but I'm too distraught.

What the hell is wrong with Kimmi? He's obvious got the pace but iot just felt he was so lethargic following alonso around. Didn't look like he was fighting for the WDC at all, but the last 15 laps were brilliant.

To the massa fans who believe their hero is being unfairly berated as a crap driver i say wake up he only pulled a 4 second gap on lewis hardly a thrashing, at silverstone in the rain (the great equalizer that slow teams pray for) he was the worst driver on the grid.

Ferrari would be mad not to replace massa at the end of the year.

how good was timo glock that was a great drive for toyota.

But you say he sux for only pulling a 4 second lead. It was down to 2 seconds, he consrved the tyres from graining and as the car came to him and the pit stop loomed he pulled the gap out to a tad over 4 seconds, enough that Lewis couldnt get near him in teh first pit stop. Then again as the tyres came good he was quick as he needed to be and most importantly when he needed to be.

I think it was a mature and supreme drive. When Lewis had his problem he was no threat to him at all.

How do you know his tyres were or werent graining?

Got a little birdie there i can borrow perhaps?

Massa is hopeless in the rain.

Agreed?

Ofcourse. He is a good dry track racer and he seems to prefer medium length flowing courses. Hungary is one such track.

He isnt the best on the grid but he does know how to dance...just dont do a rain dance.

I will agree 4 seconds is very little and LH was plain unlucky to pick up a puncture - it ruined what couldve been a grandstand finish...

I cant take anything away from Heikki although i will say he was nowhere to the 2 infront of him - a very lonely 3rd who was in the right place at the right time...I wish that would happen to Webber now and then...

Kimi really pisses me off. The lumbering idiot trundled around looking like a guy who was taking the day off, la de farkin da, then all of a sudden, WHAM, hes got the fastest lap and reeling in Glock??!!

Someone slap the Finn upside the head and tell him to stop smoking crack behind the wheel.

One more thing - this was yet another example of Mr Invisible, Mark Webber, literally going backwards down the order and then miraculously, just vanishing.

Ive never seen a driver quite like that. Hes either up there or hes nowhere to be seen!

Amazing...I think i saw him twice that whole GP.

For all you Hammo haters out there in Hater land, consider this. Despite the idiocy of the ITV wankers, Lewis made a pretty good start and Massa got a blinder - theres not much you can do to counter when someone gets a start like that. LH was reeling in FM around the time for the forst stop - actually the gap was down to 2.5 seconds and he then got baulked by one of the Hondas.

LH had the pace - so did the Ferrari, and whos to say LH wasnt carrying 3 or 4 laps more fuel in the car - its entirely plausible considering Mac having to shuffle the strategy to compensate for LH losing the lead at turn 1 at the first pitstop.

LH, without that puncture would either have won the race when massa blew up at the end or overtaken him at the stops.

I doubt Massa would have won last night but man, that was a blow to the nuts the way his engine let go...

Youd never have seen that happening to MS... :)

Come on ferrari, Maccas reliability is putting you to shame

I just don't get kimi, quite a few races, he's had a lazy start and mid way through when he has clear air, he goes demolishes everyone's best time but then that's alway not enough when you are starting midway through. I really wish he could just go agro at the start and take it easy at the end.

lol, they both had to pass the honda; if Hamilton couldn't get around him thats his problem don't blame the honda. and no he was not catching Massa your dreaming. Yes Hamilton was fast but not fast enough to catch massa.

by the way im not a hater, i just watch the race and try not to get super fan boy like some people

Its a simple observation. After a few laps LH started to reel in FM. But from the mid point of the interval to the first pit stop Massa had superior pace and started to consistantly pull tenths on Lewis. I could be wrong, that just tells me he managed his tyres better and when he needed the car under him to punch out the quicker laps to keep him ahead of Lewis he was able to. Lewis couldnt respond in the final laps leading up to the pit stop. He would have been trying as the easiest way to get past the leader of a GP is to do a MS/KR like blinder lap or two followed by in and out laps. Like i said, simple observation...and i think i am on the money.

Lewis did get a puncture, but i coudlnt see him getting near Massa without Massa having a problem. He didnt take on more fuel/laps, hsi stationary time was the same as Massas.

Lewis was beaten in a straight up fight this weekend. Its not the end of the world. Every bloke has his day and this weekend was not Lewis'. We will see how he goes into the end of the season where Ferrari have traditionally been strong.

lol @ NP pushing JT off the track...

could it be that the guy has found his feet?

more like JT having to take evasive action in response to PK's wayward driving. was well scrappy.

Where the hell is Webbo?

nowhere, as per usual

ima go out on a limb and categorically state that this guy will never win a race (forget about the WDC), regardless of whatever car He's in, save for him 'doing a Bradbury' and getting favourable accident/pace car conditions or other cars getting DNFs

never say never? i'm saying NEVER!

...never :P

what a drive from massa, from all you people that said he couldn't drive. stick it in ur pipe and smoke it!!

Massa can drive he just can't race. Massa leading from lap 1 on a dry track with his car sorted is unstoppable, he just bangs in hotlap after hotlap. Wheel to wheel racing, pressure from other drivers or wet conditions? Hopeless. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor after his first lap move, after the way he let louise through last race I didn't think he had any balls left. I guess he was just saving them up. I'm not out of line by calling that move totally uncharacteristic, but I was very impressed I must say.

Kimi - woeful performance. He just orbited until 2nd pit stop and he could pass Alonso, then put in some hot laps to show he was quick. Big deal! You should be trying to find a way past, even Alonso can make mistakes (as evidenced last race, he got the shits and his driving became very ragged).

Lewis is a standout impressive driver. I'd be very surprised if he didn't take the prize this year.

Kimi told to slow down

Worried Ferrari reveal second reliability failure

Monday 4th August 2008

Fresh focus on Ferrari's level of reliability has been cast after the team revealed that Kimi Raikkonen was forced to slow down at the end of the Hungarian GP due to a problem that was unrelated to Felipe Massa's sudden engine blow.

Massa's misfortune was the second time in barely a month when a Ferrari driver had lost a race due to mechanical unreliability, although on that occasion, in France, he was the beneficiary as he inherited a win from a luckless Raikkonen. While the high-profile malfunction of his engine in Hungary has inevitably caused embarrassment at Ferrari, the team have also confirmed that Raikkonen had to end his pursuit of Timo Glock and second place in Budapest after they spotted another problem with his car.

"We just asked him to slow down in the same lap as we had the failure of Felipe," revealed team boss Stefano Domenicali. "We saw there was something on the mechanical side on the rear that was not properly working so we said that, on the same lap, to bring the car home."

Having just ordered Raikkonen to slow down, the team then suffered the ignominious shock of Massa's car crawling to a halt in front of their pitwall with smoke billowing from its broken engine. "Unfortunately we had no warning, we just had the smoke in front of us, and it was very bad," lamented Domenicali.

"Unfortunately there was no signal, no information, no warning on the telemetry."

With Ferrari collecting a paltry six points in Hungary rather than a probable eighteen but for their reliability woes, McLaren were able to narrow the gap to their rivals in the Constructors' Championship to a mere ten points. F1 is taking a three-week break before it returns to action in Valencia on August 24 but Ferrari's engineers should be braced for some hard work and long nights in the meantime.

"We cannot accept to have this kind of problems, even if it was only 10 kilometers from the end, we cannot have this problem of reliability because we are paying too

much of a price for it," rued Domenicali.

the race had its moments but mostly it was hamiltons/massa's mechanical failures and the first two laps that provided any entertainment.

i think circuits like this where the cars are running higher downforce and the lack of corners suitable for

overtaking meant it was harder for the real racers to shine, hence a race dominated by strategicly timed pitstops. i think Kimi and lewis both proved why they are the better raceday drivers despite massa leading for so long and heikki finishing in front of hamilton.

yeah i know LH could have managed his tyre usage better but isn t it the maclaren teams job to comunicate any potential in race tyre wear issues to their driver before it punctures.

i find it a little surprising webbers one lap pace and good qualifying skills didn t translate to a better result. Maybe the dip in red bulls performance is due to the dreaded "we are developing next years car" syndrome.

    • I had 3 counts over the last couple of weeks once where i got stranded at a jdm paint yard booking in some work. 2nd time was moving the car into the drive way for the inspection and the 3rd was during the inspection for the co2 leak test. Fix: 1st, car off for a hour and half disconnected battery 10mins 4th try car started 2nd, 5th try started 3rd, countless time starting disconnected battery dude was under the hood listening to the starting sequence fuel pump ect.
    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
