was cruising through the boards wen i went into QLD by accident. and i stumbled onto a defect thread that was quite a shock.

HI guys and girls i just thought i had better let you all know about the new law and legislation that was passed about defectable vehicle.

Please dont take this lightly.

i had a fairly stock r32 skyline which some of you had seen before and i was driving along kingston road when i got pulled over by the police. they did a breath test and then asked me to show them my car.

i was defected for

EXHAUST

BOV

POD FILTER x2

FRONT BAR

STEERING WHEEL

and i though ok its my fault i new a few of those were not adr approved and was expecting to get a fine and be on my way...

and here is what all of you need to know

AS of the beginning of DECEMBER the police are no longer allowed to fine anyone for a defect on there vehicle, the new legislation is that any vehicle that is defectable will be issued a notice and given a set time before it is not to be driven again. But the worst part is that there is no fine but know all persons who get defected MUST FACE A COURT APPEARANCE. that is where you will get dealt your punishment.

you will be given 3 choices with you car.

DEREGISTER

TAKE ENTIRE CAR BACK TO FACTORY SETTING

REPAIR ALL DEFECTED ITEM TO BE ADR APPROVED

but the worst part is before you can repair you vehicle you have to make an appoitment with the department of transport so that they will do a list of what is wrong wioth your car.

this is KINGY saying i got done and know i have to go to court i no longert have my car because of this new law.. so please everyone be very careful.

im hoping this only applies to QLD but has anyone heard anything like this for us victorians?

defiantly something i think is up for discussion.

i think the police is taking this to f*kn far, like someone said before, by simply buying a pod filter for $20bux u could face court for it.

This does sound ridiculous but I don't think the value of the modification should be correlated with whether it's defectable or not. You can bash out the contents of your cat converter for free but I would understand being defected for it.

Anything is possible mate..

If people stopped being cocks on the road it would make life a lot easier. I drove past Noble Maccas the other day at about 7pm and the cops were already sitting there next to the Pizza shop. Its a dead give away.

It will only get worse because people are not willing to stop being tools on the Street and take it to the track, MEH what can you do.. We drive the cars we accept the consequences.

But i do agree it would be nice if the people who are doing real crimes, braking into houses, etc.

We'll see what happens.

yeah, unfortunately you can't stop all the idiots on the roads these days, they think they can get away with anything just cos a cop isn't around. apparently you can dob ppl in by giving there plate to the authorities but i dunno how much this will work.

there's not too many stock cars out there that you can have fun with unless you fork out the $$$'s and get some kind of supercar. don't think you have to do to much to GTR's for em to be a fun car though. can't wait to get one!

As you said, QLD section... NOTHING to do with Vic.

Getting excited over nothing as usual, it has nothing to do with us.

/end panic

and if they did bring it in, the people who are doings things properly and doing it to meet ADR's and EPA reg's, engineering major mods etc will be fine. My stagea is standard for this reason, my datto on the other hand when its done(if i keep it) will go onto club reg to save hassles.

the law will keep tightening and tightening until the people will have had enough and then the law will see real crimes.

not this revenue bullshit.

on that note- victoria had the highest deaths over the xmas period. people are too worried about getting booked for speeding ( 1 or 2 k's over) they probably concentrate more on that than their quality of driving.

victoria- the revenue state..

rant over

it's illegal.

I can't go down the street and partly stab a guy then claim that it's ok as it's kind-of OK because he didn't die.

get over it.

you mod, you live with the fact that you are doing someting against the law.

That has typipcally been my view, as whilst currently restrictive i see the current rules/regulations as havign enough flexibility that when mixed with sensible driving gives you enough room to play with.

Though is what is happening in QLD is actually the case, and other states follow suit?!?!?! I personally think it is going way too far, and for once in my life i would be compelled to go about voicing my concern over such legislation through the proper means.

How many mechanics, workshops gain income and emplyment through the aftermarket industry in this country? Imagine how fewer jobs there would be if all that was happening was oil changes and spark plugs. If the only exhaust beign replaced was a 14 yr old corroded Excel exhaust. How would Australian businesses like Turbosmart, Microtech, Wolf, Autronic, Motec, Harrop, CAPA, APS, Hollinger etc fair? How would major publications by ACP publishing etc survive if all their advertisers went out of business? What of all the parts made by Repco etc that are not genuine spare parts? Are they counted?

What would happen to many young engineers mechanics who from a young age become involved in club/road cars with a long term goal to gaining a suitable education and working in motorsport? They all start out with rebuilding a banged up road car and many go on to work at Van Diemen etc and onto open wheelers in Europe. Maybe its lost on ppl just how many Australians are involved in an engineering level in F1 etc. Or even the competitor whose road car doubles as their weekend hobby that allows them to compete in motorsport?

What about the dealers who put aftermarket wheels and an sports exhaust on a car in the lot in the hope to widening the vehicles appeal? Is the registration on that vehicle cancelled so that they cant sell the vehicle to a unsuspecting customer? (thinking of how many GTI Swifts, Pulsars etc got dressed up by the dealers)

Anyway, what they propose is ridiculous. A much more sensible approach would be to increase the cost of registration of such vehicles and make it compulsory for owners of such vehicles are carbon neutral and establish a more sensible set of guidelines

It's all stupid. If the money they made was spent on safer roads and DRIVER TRAINING as part of a high school curriculum, we'd see less deaths on the road.

Put an idiot in a micra, and he'll still have an accident. True, he might survive, but the passengers probably wouldn't.

    • I'm so far behind in the jobs I have to do at both work and home (including car) that I have become immortal. There's simply no way that I can die now.
    • Each to their own I guess  Me, I put just as much time into cleaning inside of the cars as I do on the outside As for getting wet, it is really no different than steam cleaning the carpets at home, apart from the cars carpet dries alot faster than the house, again, I only do it in the hotter months and leave the car opened up for a few hours As I only do it yearly, it is just before I do the diff and gearbox service, so I clean the carpets, then it's up on stands, wheels off, service, clean the undercarriage,  grease the bushings and do a nut and bolt check on everything  Disclaimer: I typically had all the time in the world to kill when I was working 🤣, so spending a full day or 2 cleaning, serving and "looking at stuff" was,  easily achievable, and a fun mental therapy day As for time to kill, I retired last Wednesday, so apart from my physical training, my days are filled with lots of random jobs around the house and garden...."Idle hands are the Devils something something" I am also buying a new house sooner rather than later, I'm actually looking at a potential property tomorrow, I'm looking forward to getting a car hoist as I'm starting to get to old to crawl around under a car, I can only imagine all the undercarriage cleaning and looking at stuff when that gets set up
    • Yeah, I'm not interested in wetting the carpets, and I don't care about brown dirt/dust that lives deep in the pile or underneath. It's not like I crawl around on them in my birthday suit or eat dropped food off them (because there is never any open food in my car). The seats are alcantara (cheap Chinese imitation alcantara, to be sure!) with barely 1" of foam pad behind the surface. That's not getting wet either. Any car that I would be happy to get the interior wet, I would not care to put the effort into.
    • We have one that holds 2.8L of water. On floor carpet that hasn't been touched in 2 or 3 years, will take a minimum of 2 fills of the tank to do a bedroom, and that's going AROUND the bed.   In the cruiser, I used an ENTIRE 2.8L tank, just on the front passenger footwell. But it had some fungus growing, and had been full of mud from being used as a 4WD for many years. I can do that floor again, and it will still pull mud out. However, the water now only looks dirty, not pitch black and leaving full sludge in the bottom of the tank it sucks back into. Oh, and, this is about a $1500 unit.
    • This is mine, works a treat for the cars, suction is good, I use the Bissell clean and protect stuff I have found giving it a good spray and light scrub with the soft brush on the head of the nossle for carpet, and a rub with a microfibre for cloth seats and cloth door trims, prior to another quick spray before vacuuming it up works the best @GTSBoy You would surprised on what it gets out of carpet and seats that actually "look" clean, I recommend that you test drive yours when you have a little time to kill, then post pics of the muddy looking water that I believe you will find
