Manuel Kasko
How often is the norm to take this stuff? and how much. I'm sure it has instructions but just curious before it arrives. Trozzle
How often is the norm to take this stuff? and how much. I'm sure it has instructions but just curious before it arrives. Well first of all it depends on how much protein you should be taking in per day, this is different for everybody so I'm sure someone can share an accurate figure (though I dare say it's roughly based on body weight). Usually about 2g of protein for every kg of bodyweight if I recall correctly. Secondly we need to remember it's designed as a supplement, so it depends on how much protein you're taking in already from your normal food intake. You'd be pretty safe with 1 scoop 3 times a day or something like that, spread out between meals or right after workouts. Manuel Kasko
I'm thinking about stepping up my workout to 2x daily so probably 3 scoops I guess. My daily intake doesn't have that much because we don't eat a lot of steak or red meats etc. Body weight is 70kg and height is 170cm Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/184/#findComment-6509063 Share on other sites
Mitcho_7
I'm no expert or anything, but I usually have about 20g of protein with 5g of creatine about 20 minutes before a session and then 40g of protein and 5 grams of creatine immediately after a session. Then I try to eat a heap of carbs within an hour or so after a session. Then snacks throughout the rest of the day that have plenty of carbs and protein in them. Works reasonably well for me, but everyone is different. Like Troy said, try to aim for at least 2g per kilo of body weight at least. If you go over its not that big of a deal, I'd rather have more than not enough personally... Manuel Kasko
I want to aim to cut down carbs as much a possible. So I could try copy without the carb intake. But wouldn't mind someone who knows a lot about it comment on the situation. Calling out birds the knower of most. Also Mitch what's the creatine about? Is that just to boost energy Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/184/#findComment-6509110 Share on other sites
Birds
1 scoop; morning, arvo and night. Don't think too hard. Lift weights a lot, eat a lot and sleep a lot. Your body will figure out the rest. P.S. your two workouts a day sounds a bit silly. SRS13
I just tried 160kg deadlift. Got it up (eventually) and then put it down. Massive headspin. True story. TM7GTR
Kasko - 2 workouts a day is over-doing it... you will see less progress because your body can't repair enough, and you will become very, very tired. Mitch - That's a lot of creatine man... 10g in sups is over-doing it especially if you eat meat. Creatine aids in the supply and synthesis of ATP to skeletal muscle... Simply put, it can increase performance in some highly trained athletes by ensuring a constant energy source. I suggest doing some research as I can't be assed to try and explain it here... besides, I'd just like to emphasise the phrase "highly trained athletes" because creatine to the average Joe is just a silly waste of money. Bring the haterade... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/184/#findComment-6509437 Share on other sites
Birds
I agree about the creatine. Just got through telling a gym newbie not to waste his money on it. Unfortunately he already bought the tub! Dunno why people try to take as many "shortcuts" as they can (short of roids) to reach their goals, to the pleasure of supplement manufacturers worldwide. Should be lifting weight and plateauing before you even think about doing anything more than lifting weight! Manuel Kasko
I been lifiting for about 3 months now about 30-45min per week day. So I guess I can just keep that up and not try to go to fast. Do you use still use 3 scoops on your days off so mine will be saturday, sunday Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/184/#findComment-6509514 Share on other sites
Mitcho_7
Creatine is cheap as chips these days so I figured I would try it out. To be honest, I haven't noticed much of a difference being on it. That might change once I go off it for a month after having been taking it for 8 weeks though. Kasko, were you wanting to do 2 weights sessions a day or something like a run in the morning and weights at night? If its the former, definently not a good idea. Going for a light jogg or something in the morning before breakfast shouldn't be too bad if it's low intensity. But if you're going to be pushing hard on the run or whatever, probably better to listen to everyone and stick with once a day at most. Should be lifting weight and plateauing before you even think about doing anything more than lifting weight! I wouldn't necessarily call experimenting with supps a shortcut. Everybody needs to try different stuff out and find out what works for them and what's a waste of money. Sure research and education come into it, but there's plenty of conflicting papers on the effectiveness of different things and the best way to take them. It seems like you are suggesting to not take anything at all, which is a little odd. I have definently seen better progress since taking protein. And I'm of the opinion that if I can get better results by taking something pre/post session, without jeopardizing my general (aka steroids) then why not? Did this person actively come up to you and ask you about what he should be taking and how he should be lifting? I have no problem with that if he did, but it really annoys me when people at gyms who think that because they have been doing it a while they are suddenly god of everything weight training related and can go around parroting there opinions to everyone that'll listen. It especially annoys me if they aren't even big. (Some skinny runt at the gym the other day came up and told me I was doing something wrong. It really rubbed me the wrong way considering I was at least twice as big, which is saying something of his size.) Not saying you are one of these people at all and I'm all for hearing your opinions and experiences with different things, as you make quite a few informative posts. However, my interpretation of some of the posts you make in this section,is that you tend to get on your high horse a bit. Manuel Kasko
I was going to try lifting weights 2x daily to wear myself out more. Right now I am finding that I do get tired while lifting and I currently am increasing my weight nearly each month. But the next day my body doesnt feel like its been pushed. I remember back when I first started waking up and my arms killing me and I saw that as a good thing.
