Obviously I was being a little harsh about the leg shaving and collars etc.

it's easy and fun to generalise so I do it.

My issue is people who become *insert expert in something or other here* because they thought it would be a good way to make money and went and did a course to get a piece of paper that says they did a course and now know what to do.

My opinion is that it doesn't mean shit that you paid a fee and did some classes and got your cert.

Those people have no interest in making people better.

they have an interest in making money.

those people will always fail.

Nick says his dad is a PT who specialises in helping old folks.

He cares.

he does his job because he wants to see someones life improve... and happens to get paid for it.

But PTs in a gym (most) are there to carry a clipboard and tell self conscious people they are doing great and see you in 2 days etc etc, then NEXT!!!

They spurt what they read in their textbooks written by people who wear lab coats.

I guess PTs are there for the lazy so it makes their existance acceptable.

Kasko - Let me know when you finish your course.

I'll shout you these as a gift.

Couldn't agree more with you on the first point. This is why I'm doing my diploma so I can work with special populations.

My number 1 priority client right now is a lady I train out at an old folks center. She's 75 with numerous serious medical problems, and nothing beats the feeling of knowing I'm trying to improve her quality of life, because in all seriousness, who knows how long clients like these are expected to be around for.

I have huge respect for Nick's dad knowing he does much the same.

I love being serious to other clients though.. If you can't do one damn palms-to-knees crunch on the floor, don't expect me to say you're doing a great job.

I personally wouldn't post in this forum if I thought I knew what to do 100% though. Especially on topics such as powerlifting... it interests me greatly, although I'm not a very strong person myself (need to stray away from the bodybuilding training for a while and try powerlifting)

Do you guys know if boogers get bigger as you get older ?

I'll be damned if I haven't doubled my nose yield over the last five years !

The great mining boom of 2013 ^ ?

dunno but i do know that after a good root, i have quite the satisfying crop to harvest. nfi why but i think its to do with the heavy breathing

TM7, how is the Diploma going for you? It is still relatively new in the industry and feel it to be a great progression.

We were consulted some time ago as to what benefits we as employers would like to see as part of the progression into a Diploma and the feedback was based with an emphasis on business development and management.

What are the main advancements you have seen so far over cert IV

your not supposed to snort the protein powder...

my mother in-law was diagnosed with early osteoporosis recently... so we bought her a set of weights for her birthday... happy birthday, now get off your arse and get moving lol

we can argue about the best ways to train/eat but at the end of the day if your doing regular resistance exercise and eating clean then your doing better than 90% of the population... let them go to the doctors and get their pills... I'll have a steak thank you... and I ain't cutting the fat off it either!

Game of *insert sport here* or a long drive with the windows down. Welcome to crustville...population: your finger.

Sorry mate, when I mentioned I'm "doing my Diploma" I should have worded it as "I'm going to do my Diploma"

I'm about 2 months away from completion of my cert IV, so i'll begin the Diploma course next Feb.

That said, the business development and management you mentioned above are what the course comprises of primarily in the new system to my knowledge (I know a few of the Diploma students). It used to be just a progression into further learning about exercising for special pops, etc. but now the business development management side of things is very much the target.

For example, at the CIT campus I'm at, the Diploma students run the gym as well as overlooking the marketing side of things, especially the group classes that us cert IV's run.

Put simply it's a hierarchy where you have CIT Managers & Teachers > Diploma Students > Cert IV's > Cert III's

Cert III's work gym floor (they have assigned shifts), actively learning about how a gym works/what it's like to have a job in the industry.

Cert IV's manage the III's, hiring them to run our group exercise classes, while we learn how to effectively market the classes and all about developing business plans and marketing plans covering all the fine details

Diploma Students overlook Cert IV's, approving/disapproving our marketing. They control the management side of things now (it used to be teachers/supervisors looking after the gym).

My course this year has been called the "test course" for the new layout of teaching business and marketing during Cert IV to feed into further study of each in the Diploma course.

All i know is whenever I have been to the cit gym, there's a lot of student lookin types in there not doing a whole lot and it's annoying because they use all the lockers.

I'm sure it's a decent course though.

Thanks for the response, looking forward to seeing some positive outcomes from the introduction of the Diplomas.

I get invited to lecture at the Joondalup (West Australian) CIT to Cert IV students from time to time. The current course i think has got most of it right, especially in comparison to say AIF. The time taken and the mentoring seems quite positive from the candidates that are being fed through.

That saying, as mentioned, more emphasis on business development will be fantastic.

Keep us in the loop when you do start as to how it all goes and any major comparisons as you go.

happy ending?

lol @ the IT Crowd episode where the masseur kisses him on the bottom

I went to my Osteo on Mon to have my neck/traps worked on... overhead pressing with a barbell didn't agree with me... going to switch to dumbbells for a while as they let the shoulders move a bit freer

overhead pressing with a barbell didn't agree with me... going to switch to dumbbells for a while as they let the shoulders move a bit freer

Whenever I do behind the neck presses, I always find the rear of my shoulders is heaps tender for a few days. Doesn't hurt at all when im doing it, But it doesnt feel like a muscular sore/doms type sore either. Not sure if it's because I don't do them that much so My body is just not used to working like that, or if it stresses my joint capsule when in the lower region of each rep.

I prefer dumbells just because of the freedom of movement and then just use a barbell to change it up occasionally.

my issue isn't in my shoulders... its a neck/thoracic issue... if my alignment is a bit out it will pinch when I'm pressing causing the muscles to lock up and protect the spine... so my neck freezes up and I can't turn my head very well... a session at the Osteo pretty much fixes it immediately

I actually like pressing behind the neck for my shoulders... I feel it gives a nice stretch at the bottom... my shoulders rarely give me any issues... but my elbows like to complain a lot

I've f**ked a muscle in the right side of my neck from doing OHP with dumbbells. Go figure lol

Lol.. Hot girl walked past Troy to the right, he looks to check out dat ass.. Pulls a neck muscle.. CrippleLife/10

OHP and neck pain (as in the pinching feeling and stiffness the next day) is usually not the neck but the scapula and lower trap (near your shoulder blades).

it's a muscle strain type deal.

some massage and rest will fix it in like 3-5 days.

easiest way to get to it yourself is a tennis ball on the floor and lie on top of it so it against the spot between your shoulder blae and spine and slowly roll around. You'll know when you hit the spot.

then man up and work it hard.

This. All the f**king time.

Nah it's definitely in the neck, unfortunately. Not a muscle that should really have been activated during the exercise.

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
