triggerhappy
BCAA would have to be one of the most pointless expensive supps there is. A very good mate of mine owns a supp shop and he only drinks them for taste and said if he was paying full $ for them he wouldnt touch them. Much better supps out there like a quality protein and quality fast acting carb drink. On another note back in the gym and and strength is almost back up to 100%. Eating is still a bit of an issue and feeling sick after meals. pressing 50kg dumbells for 10 reps on the 5th set happy with that considering. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7520421 Share on other sites
Trozzle
I agree to a point, but only due to the price of BCAA supps. They're far from pointless though. Sure, you can get the same (and more) from a scoop of WPI...but personally I ain't drinking something that requires digestion (not to mention dairy based) during my workout. Immediately afterwards, yeah, but trying to lift heavy with something in my stomach doesn't work for me Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7520435 Share on other sites
-FIGJAM-
^^^ yeah I was gonna say Birds, it ain't entirely psuedoscience I mean, sure you could've made the lift without the smack in the head, since your body was entirely capable...however that smack in the head might be what your mind needed to believe it could pull it off Back on BCAAs, yeah that's fair. I personally can't see the (appreciable) science behind 5-10g of amino acids (protein) making any real difference to your ability during a workout, but they will have benefits even beyond what could be placebo. And again, placebo effect has great value in itself, as long as you're not pissing money down the drain for it lol Anabolic State has glutamine and HICA in it for claimed benefits in recovery, DOMS, etc etc. Though at least on the back this claims come with a disclaimer that there's no scientific studies to PROVE them haha. Oh, and once more, the taste makes it worth it if only for the reason you mentioned - sipping on it through the day I do this too, coz I HATE drinking water and never feel the urge to do it until it's too late and I'm already dehydrating myself. Something tasty every now and then makes a big difference. Yeah the major thing for me isn't so much if the science behind BCAAs are right or wrong, the mere fact that it helps me get through 2-4 litres of water a day instead of a litre of coke and a couple of energy drinks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7520441 Share on other sites

Diet is so much more important. The only time i use bcaa is drinking them before and during fasted cardio. Most here seem to be powerlifting style rather than BB style like myself haha Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7520445 Share on other sites
Birds
You can achieve the same with cordial really Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7520467 Share on other sites
triggerhappy
I agree birds when not doing fasted work. I drink cordial at the gym used to be sugar free but it gave me reflux as did all sweetners that are not sugar. Trying to drink more water but to be honest i find it really hard to drink enough. The best thing in BCAA is the L-Luciene or how ever it is spelt and a lot of them dont have it or have bugger all. The amount of aminos in BCAA is really bugger all. Better of with a peptide Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7520468 Share on other sites
Birds
Why not drink cordial that has sugar? It's nowhere near the amount that soft drinks have and you can always dilute to add a little flavour to water That being said I love the taste of water so no probs here drinking 3 litres a day or so Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7520564 Share on other sites

It's nowhere near the amount that soft drinks have and you can always dilute to add a little flavour to water That being said I love the taste of water so no probs here drinking 3 litres a day or so I love the taste of bottled water given the lack of chlorine etc, or if it must be tap water chilled still tastes good.....buuuuuut straight tap water is far from desirable unless I'm parched as f**k, and I don't drink COLD fluids during my workouts. So I'm screwed lol. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7520565 Share on other sites
Birds
I don't drink any water during workouts unless I'm really dry in the throat / hurts to breathe I reckon it fks with my core strength and puts my body in some relaxation mode if I have more than a sip Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7520603 Share on other sites
Trozzle
I feel like anything I drink during a workout sits in my stomach and goes nowhere for f**king ages, making me feel disgusting due to fluid moving around/feeling full lol. So, I just finished my first bottle of water since leaving home at 7:15am this morning. That's 1L of water (with BCAAs), and a 320ml coffee. I feel like I've been "forcing" myself to drink more throughout the day, consciously having a mouthful whenever I see my shaker....yet most would tell me I'm still not drinking nearly enough water. I'm not thirsty by any means, but what the f**k? Why do I consume f**k all fluids? I actually worry sometimes half my digestive issues and fatigue could be related to my apparently small water intake, but I bloody never feel compelled to drink more. I generally feel WORSE if I try to drink a more 'normal' amount. Like even now I feel kinda bloated and bleh from finishing the final couple of mouthfuls in that bottle. Trozzle
So I've gone and got myself WPI again instead of my usual WPC in the hopes that maybe it was partially contributing to my possible lactose intolerance....now, before you get excited over this next part, I personally still don't at all think it justifies the massive increase in cost......but it really does taste so much better lol. Different, and not at all to say the WPC tasted bad in any way, but the WPI just goes down easier. Not nearly as creamy texture though, which was kinda a plus for me haha....and the fact it mixes much easier is slightly disappointing too, since I quite liked the random lumps of whey lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7521164 Share on other sites
Birds
Interestingly I ran out of WPI lastnight and resorted to a bag of WPC I still had...noted much the same thing. I had it before bed so can't comment on if it gave me an upset stomach (haven't noticed anything), but it was harder to mix, creamier and didn't taste as nice. I hate standing there and shaking a drink, it drains my energy lol especially after a workout. I think BN source their WPI and WPC from different places hence the marked difference in taste that really shouldn't happen if they're using the same flavouring and just a different filtering process between the two. Trozzle
I still wouldn't necessarily say I prefer one over the other (when we aren't considering the crazy price difference), given I love both the creamy and lumpy aspects of WPC, but the subjective flavour of the WPI is a bit nicer. Ehh, apples and oranges haha Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7521183 Share on other sites
Trozzle
I will however say that a scoop of coffee WPI mixed with a scoop (half serving) of the cookies and cream Biobulker I've got go really well together haha. Same company I guess, so you'd like to think they'd go hand in hand lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7521185 Share on other sites
-FIGJAM-
Try their hydrolyzed mix. Ive been using Dymatizes hydrolyzed WPI with no issues and I have developed issues with milk and other blends of protein. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7521194 Share on other sites
Trozzle
Honestly my 'issues' aren't bad enough or obviously caused by WPC enough to warrant an even further increase in costs haha. If I don't get noticeable differences using the WPI over WPC, I'll just go back to WPC and deal with it more or less. I'm averse to the idea of a 50% increase from WPC to WPI, let alone more for HWPI That, and when I've had hydrolised WPI once before, it had an odd nutty kinda taste to it lol. Nothing bad at all, and it was AGES ago so I know they've at least changed supplier since then, but yeah was odd lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200767-gym-and-supplement-discussion/page/589/#findComment-7521230 Share on other sites
