bolt in i think, going to look at it tomorow, wanting it to be legal

you will definately need to call your local RTA office and discuss the requirements for a bolt in cage, it may not be legal at all, even with it a bolt in.

you will need to get it engineered as well, so maybe call a local engineer to find out what they need to pass to give you a blue slip for it.

im going to be buying a half cage for my r32, ive looked in the diy/faq thread but cant find anything on installing them, has anyone got any pictures or have any information on how to install them

Hey,

I have just finished putting a half cage in my 33..it may help..mine is road legal with a engineers certificate.

That cage is bolted to the inner wheel arch!! and can also come into contact with the head in a crash!!! Your engineer is a very brave man (or stupid)

Arent all bolt in cages like that though (to the inner wheel arch)?

Im with you about the head clearance, that looks pretty tight there!

Cheers

mines bolted to the inner wheel arch. Is this no good???

chassis rail my friend...a lot less flex. An inner wheel arch is a single layer of thin sheet metal. Ive also see 1st hand how easily an inner wheel arch folds up in a crash.

if your head can come into contact with the cage (or padding) its illegal...end of story...engineered or not.

so thats all bolt in?

is it now a 2 seater?

which state are you in? do you have any details on what was required eg . distance from head to bars, mounting point specs etc that you can share?

Yep its now a legal 2 seater, Im in NSW, i have to Code of practice for car modifications some where here on my PC, Pm me your email address and i will send it over to you.

Dirtgarage

yes its botled to the inner arch, as the cage was made up by the boys at bond roll bars this is where i was told it was to bolt to, it does have a dirty big bit of steel as a plate under it as thats what the COP for car modification states. But i do understand your point about using the chasiss rail. They are removable rears so i can change that.

I do agree the head clearance is a little tight in that pic but with the seat in its forward position (which is my driving position) it meets the clearance requirements just....

Cheers,

Scotty

is it a cams approved cage or not? bond know what they are doing, but if its not approved you can get knocked back by scruitineers at any cams event. And I don't see the point of a cage if you are not going to hit a track?

check the online cams manual. It was updated 1.1.08 to specifically say non-approved cages can only be used if the scruitineer for the event is OK with it, ie if you strike a dickhead they can ban you. they have been discussing this clarification in rules for years so watch out.

bond can provide the compliance details as long as they built it to the rules

Duncan,

When i ordered the cage i told bond that the car was being setup to drift (competitevly) and this is what i was given. the cage is functional not for show...that would be just wankkie...

Im downloading the cams manual now so i will have a read through it.

Well..After having a read of section 6 - schedule j and re talking to bond it appears to be ok with cams..but im not 100% sure. is there somewhere i can take it to get checked?

Sorry to hijack this thread..

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
