Where there is a will there is a way...

Nomuken is already working on it... it has a looong way to go as you can see

The subtitle in the last pic says

クラッチペダルがないのできったけはサイドと慣性使えない

Which means... Because there is no clutch pedal you can't use handbrake or inertia.

Which either makes no sense or is an indication of how bad my Japanese is.

wait, how does not having a clutch pedal effect inertia? :)

They have a clutch, in fact they have 2 clutches, well now that I think about it, they actually have 3 clutches, but let's leave the ATTESA clutch pack out of it for a moment. The gearbox clutches are actuated by solenoids, so it would be simple to incorporate a switch that disengages the clutches. Simply put another paddle on the steering wheel that switchs the solenoids on while you hold it in. If you really wanted to, you could put a switch on the floor where the clutch pedal normally goes, hold it down like a normal clutch pedal to dissengage. Or you could use a strain switch on the gearlever like we do in the V8 SuperCars.

You could also have a another switch for dissengaging the ATTESA clutch pack, or maybe the reverse, a switch for engaging the ATTESA. Turn it on when you want traction to pass. With the electronic/hydraulic drive train actuation there is almost no limit to how clever you can be. Properly thought out, an R35GTR would make all other drift cars obsolete.

Cheers

Gary

lets hope they dont retire nomura's animal of a 34... most entertaining drift car to watch!!

also

lets hope nomura drives the 35 :D

haha yeah i got first dibs on it  it was the stand out at the demo's at TAS too.

the D1 R35 is pretty much all sorted provided NISSAN japan allow it, there is still some negativity towards drift in the upper echelons of NISSAN and they are worried about negative feedback from snobby potential customers.

We spoke extensively about both cars and general business and honestly NISSAN would be mad to pass on the opportunity especially as nomuken is second only to Keiichi-Tsuchiya recognition wise. Travelling around will nomuken is like travelling around with god  especially in f*kuoka the last leg of our stay.... it started to feel like we were punishing him because he just gets hounded flat out by everyone... free sake at every restaurant was dangerous too .

its a shame 4wd aren't allowed. i think a button for a clutch would have a lot less feel too.

I don't know about you, but I have a lot more feel in my fingers than my foot. Keeping in mind that the average drift clutch has zero feel anyway.

F1 drivers have a couple of little levers... 7 and 15 on this diagram. But F1 steering wheels don't really spin around quite as much as drift car ones so I don't really think the same sort of setup would be appropriate.

I would just use some sort of fly-by-wire pedal setup. I think the driver will have enough trouble adaptding to whatever gear shift arrangement they end up using. It would be cooler if they did it in software, but I think that would be a while off.

sydney kid, steering wheel mounted clutch control owuld never work, the steeringwheel spends too much spinning freely of the drivers hand, and they are constantly clutch kicking etc, mid corner while the wheel is spinning still

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
    • Perhaps the answer is... more jacks!* *proper jacks must be used.
    • I NEVER think about using a scissor jack unless there is absolutely no other alternative. f**king things are dangerous, annoying and stupid.
