F!#k the damn cops! Got you for a DVD player, just cuz he can have a screen in his car dumb F!!K, did he ask you dumb questions like "where is your intercooler" duuhhh... :( LOL

He got you for the xenons, man hes got nothing to do or hes dumb. Stagea's came with xenons like the R34's (I think?)

Take you BOV off, get the canary off then put it back on. Can you hide your DVD player? Do it so you can get the canary off and change that tyre.

Its minor things but its a head f!!K

BOV's are the 1st things they look for, cuz of noise bla bla bla... Lucky he didn't say anything about your exhaust.

They do come standard, but they are supposed to get the chop when brought into the country. So hes definitely not dumb

That depends entirely on the state the compliance was done in - Here in WA they go through compliance with the zenons untouched, but a few guys here got their car complied in Qld and they arrive over here with the headlights butchered back to Halogen :(

they are actualy illigal australia wide, i knew that already, yeah stageas and r34's have xenons standard but they r illigal cause they arent self leveling like the mercs and BMW's VW ect. thats why they have to be taken out... i actualyy got done for no bov.. i took off the standard bov cause i like the flutter sound... sound funny ey... " man a cop canaried me cause i didnt have a blow off valve" haha.. yeah the dvd screen thing is f**ked... there is 1000's of cars with GPS whats the diference... my screen is also GPS.. i didnt wanna argue though i just wanted to get out as quick as possible..

it was saturday night.. about 7ish i think.. was in the carpark on the beach, just b4 the carnival.. there was about 5 people looking over my car, some may have been vic roads people cause not every1 was in uniform

As far as I know, Zenons to be ADR (Australian Design Rules) compliant need to have;

a) Automatically self levelling headlights (Stageas only have manual levelling by dash switch) AND

b) Self?? washing facility on headlights (water nozzle). Not sure whether a wiper on the headlight is required as well.

We don't have either on the Stageas....so is technically a defect.

Well, I didn't know that! And going by the amount of S2 stageas and R34's getting around Perth with the zenons on them, neither do the cops and compliancers......

compliancers usually give you the "option" of taking your xenon's back, or making the conversion reversible... what you do after that is totally up to you and out of their control. but as part of national compliancing rules, most japanese xenons are removed as they don't meet the regulations (self levelling and cleaning).

bad luck canary, but everything the copper got you for is legit. DVD player you could argue is for GPS, but you had to have a map on your screen, not MTV's latest hits. When switched to DVD mode it should have been off unless the handbrake was up.

^^Well ok I think someones gota fill me in on what Automatically self levelling headlights are. To me Xenons are just head lights...

Do they adjust the beam of light themselves or something?

2 friends of mind had a R34 GTT with Xenons and had no probs...

xenons tend to flare a lot more than regular halogens, so that means when you're going up a hill or down a slope, you can potentially blind oncoming drivers and the driver in front of you... you'll have noticed this when driving around and some cars with xenons seem to have their high beams on when goin over bumps, or the headlights change colours. A self levelling xenon stays relatively in the same position regardless of the angle of the car, avoiding those issues. ADR's state that unless a xenon is self levelling it has to be retrofitted with halogens, and ADR's apply nationwide.

I am super busy right now.. but I converted my lights just recently and can still vividly remember it

I have not had time to read the above posts but if nobody has offered help/solved the problem I am more than happy to speak to you over the phone and tell you exactly how to retrofit them

I still have all my original bulbs etc from the complaince joint

PM me and we can swap contact details ( if you still need help )

gps is illegal anyway, same as a dvd player. There are lots of laws they don't enforce.

The things they got you for are all legit, tires is just STUPID, BOV off for flutter=noise polution and makes the car run shit...

I have been pulled over at random times when heading down to rye for the weekend(3am on friday nights lol), been in my gf's supra, and they never checked the car, and were all nice guys.

Well, that just confirms my suspicions of the dodgy compliancers here in WA because I know of at least one S2 stagea that has come from the workshop with the zenons completely untouched.

As others have already pointed out its entirely not up to the states  ADRs are nation wide, and they made the rule. All imports should have theirs removed and replaced with halogens :)

Yeah thanks! I see whats going on now. Still nothing too much to worry about but the laws the F!#king law LOL.

its not that they're dodgy, I'm sure there'd be a lot more people whinging if they butchered the lights, then destroyed the xenons like theyr'e supposed to. Any aftermarket or non ADR part that comes off a compliance car is supposed to be destroyed... if everyone stuck to the letter of the law, I doubt anyone would want to import.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
